I think that one of these days, you might have to remove a couple pages' worth of duplicate entries for me by now ...
Consider it a personality flaw. Having the little brother and cousins I do I've grown lightning fast reflexes for swooping in and pulling someone out of some self-made peril by their ankles, and it looks like I've brought some of that to the forum as well...
I think I've got a bottle of acetone somewhere, if that helps..
No, pretty sure most goldsmiths wouldn't feel threatened by acetone alone. You need at least a torch to go with it.
Umm, probably a good idea to add me to that list, too. Do you know how easy it is to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen gas? And how perfect that mixture is for catching fire? I do. And in theory I could do it with more dangerous stuff, too. Table salt? Let's make some chlorine gas and concentrated sodium hydroxide! Haha...ha... ok, I'll stop now.
Yes, yes and yes, chemistry lessons count as learning a survival trait in the profession.
No, don't stop!
um um um.
Let's see, rust + aluminum + heat = molten iron + aluminum oxides + FIIIIIIIRE. (There's still a little crater/splatter-mark on the sidewalk outside the science building from the iron getting loose during that demo.)
Potassium chlorate + gummi bear = water + carbon dioxide + potassium chloride + FIIIIIRE (Funny story, actually. We did this in chem once, and the test tube was just a liiiiiittle too small, so the pressure built up behind the gummi bear and eventually caused its flaming, charred carcass to fly across the fume hood. Fun times.)
You get the idea.
