i'm laughing, NRK does it again. first there was the live 8 hour train trip, and then the 3 day live hurtigruta, and now they're gonna do 12 hours of salt stream whirls. if it's anything like the last times, an alarmingly large percentage of norwegian inhabitants are gonna sit glued to their screens because they can't look away from whirlpools

I think last year I was able to witness a norwegian family watching hurtigruten (of course they stopped, while I intruded). We have a lot of train TV-stuff, but that only went for an hour or two and was split over some weeks XD.

Luckily NRK allows me to watch all the nice TV-series online that german broadcasters refuse to air, without advertisement <3

What are salt stream whirls?
Iceland's RUV did something like this last year when they had a 24 hour stream of lambs being born at a farm.

I'm not entirely sure, the name of the 'show' will be "saltstraumen minutt for minutt", and from the news today it seems to be where the river meets the sea and it creates tiny whirlpools. I think it's around Lofoten somewhere.

Saltstraumen is IIRC a narrow neck connecting a fjord to the sea. So it changes with the tide, from calm to very much whirlpool as the water on the inside levels with the sea. It's a very cool place to visit, with all that rapid water movement in a completely flat place. But watching it on tv for hours? No thank you.
