They're not as bad as mosquitos though.

Well, in those numbers? they could tear you to shreds...

Wow! I'm not sure if that's better or worse than mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes don't swarm.

Mosquitoes don't swarm.

I've seen little clouds of mosquitoes floating around before, but they were probably the males, which don't bite.

In fact it's weird how Iceland *keeps* getting tourist in spite of how Icelanders tend to portray it as basically The Australia of The North (looking at Baltasar Kormakur's films, you'd think Iceland is somewhere in the suburban area of Moscow).

Well a lot of people get interested in the place because of the bands coming out of it- OMAM and Sigur Ros to name the biggest two- so a lot of people are kind of distracted by the magic. People who haven't been introduced to the semi-Biblical plagues of midges the wonderful country can apparently produce. I haven't even watched Laufey's video. All I have to do is look at the thumbnail to know I'm not going camping in Iceland unless I have a bio-hazard suit on hand

Actually, hazmat suits are surprisingly cheap...

And surprisingly handy to have around. Respirators too. When I still lived at home I kept a Gulf War Era gas mask in a box underneath my bed- just because I had nowhere else to put it, you understand- and I ended up using it. One of my little sisters discharged a can of bear spray in the house, hitting herself in the process, and while everyone else was choking, gagging, unable to see because of the fumes, I was downstairs in ten seconds flat wearing the mask.

And my sister is just fine now, as a note. This story has nothing to do with midges.

The sun is too bright and keeps waking me up at 6... This is why I hate summer...

My list of why summer is awful:
no snow
much sun
too hot

And sunlight so strong it actually stings your skin and reminds you you should have put on sunscreen to ward off that big ol' hole in the ozone layer (#southernhemisphereproblems)

I know! Even if my family looked at me weirdly for... well, they still do sometimes. But I'm thankful that I had the mask anyway!

I always say be prepared! You did a good job, there, even if you didn't know you were doing a good job up until the moment your sister and the bear gas had their disagreement.
I personally sleep with a screw-driver under my pillow, in case of home invasion. My plan is, though somewhat childish and unrealistic, to stab at whoever I might find standing over my bed in the middle of the night. I have only needed it once. On the plus side, the friend who sneaked in to see me didn't need any stitches.
