Just a quick update on where the cosplay project is currently going. Overtunic almost ready, still needs a collar but the sun was already going down so I decided to get some photos of it anyway.

Spoiler: show

Did it really need embroidery at the seams? In fact yes it did! It's functional in both making the seam stronger and tighter against wind and rain. Did it have to be embroidered in two different shades of blue? Well -

...maybe not.

That's not going to stop me from embroidering something on the shoulders too, once I make up my mind on what I should put there.

A problem. I have, eh, a good deal of junk in the trunk so the back of the tunic lifts up more than it should. I'm counting on the cape hiding this fact.

These aren't going to be the belts I'll use, they're far too thin and wrong colour, but they served their purpose for this photoshoot. I have also possibly confirmed the fan theory that Sigrun's belts stay crossed and don't just sling around because of hips of thunder they actually keep the belts in place.

O yes bask in the rays of my elbow!

this is freaking AWESOME!  And it looks so comfy!

Wow, how did I miss this? That's excellent! I don't think it's too big, remember, you need to tie it with a belt as well and that will make it fit a lot better. Also, that's so well made you could just wear it everyday and be half in Reynir cosplay without anyone knowing it ^_^

Congratulations on your gradual turning into Sigrun, I couldn't hope for a better fate for you ^_^ Your costumes are so authentic and it's great! I can't wait to see this one finished, but in the meantime I love seeing the progress pics and learning how you go about making it :3 (you wouldn't happen to have an actual cosplay page would you? You do things so professionally I wouldn't be surprised, and I would definitely follow it if i knew about it!)

Gradually turning into Sigrun... well, I can wish. :D I don't have a cosplay page specifically I'm afraid, I make very few cosplays in comparison to typical cosplayers (I make maybe two big ones per year max) so I think I wouldn't have enough material for one. I'm really flattered for the comment though! :3

People were saying in the art museum that you should cosplay the dress I made for Sigrun so I was curious and came here looking for you. You look amazing as Sigrun!!! That cosplay is really cool  ;D

I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this, but I made a thing:

I've been wanting to make a Reynir hoodie for a while, but I wasn't sure how. My knitting skills aren't anywhere near what they would need to be to make an authentic version of his tunic, and although I could maybe sew something it would take a lot of planning. I usually do a lot better if I adapt an existing garment than if I try to make something new, so I thought I'd try the bleach-and-stencil thing I've been seeing on the internet lately. I got a blue hoodie from the hipster thrift store, and after a couple of hours of messing with freezer paper and trying not to breathe in bleach fumes, I ended up with this.

I had hoped the bleached parts would turn more of a light blue, but the lavender color looks nice with the dark blue anyway. I haven't done the back yet - I wanted to make sure the front was going to come out okay before I wasted my time.

Also I put a lil' Reynir over my camera, because why not.

Kiraly, that's wonderful!  As far as I'm concerned, your Reynir hoodie totally belongs in the Cosplay thread.  But if you have a pattern and instructions you can share, maybe you can post them in one of the crafts threads?  (We had one specifically for SSSS T-shirts, but I don't have the link handy.)  Maybe people will start wearing them to Meet-Ups!

Oh, that's a good idea! I can try to take some process photos when I do the back. I remember seeing the t-shirt thread somewhere, so I'll go hunt it down. And I'll admit, half the reason I wanted to make this was so if I end up being somewhere that has a meet-up I can wear it!

A little follow-up on what's going on - more totally unnecessary embroidery that will be mostly hidden by the cape. On the upside it strenghtens the collar so maybe it'll yet serve some purpose other than just me taking my today's bad mood out on embroidery (boy I've never made such an angry piece of embroidery before)...

Ooh, that looks so good! You would never know it was fueled by rage. And hey, I feel like embroidery is a great way to deal with a bad mood...definitely better than a lot of things you could do.

Kiraly: rage is surprisingly motivating!

Ok, collar embroidery done. I still need to add some system for closing it and then it's ready - or almost ready since I'm now entertaining the idea of embroidering the sleeves in the same way as the collar, but trousers first. Can't really cosplay Sigrun without them.

Trousers done! Next I get to flip a coin on whether I start with gloves (YAY!) or boot covers (URGH) first.

Btw Medieval style trousers are a headache to put together with all those weird pieces, but I noticed that the cut puts seams roughly in the same place Minna's placed them in the white uniforms. Normally if I were to sew trousers there'd be only one seam in the middle of the butt, but these - and Minna's uniform design - have two.

I don't think it matters so much with the blue uniform I'm working on but when I get to the white uniform cosplay it's good to have it figured out! :D
