Awesome, moredhel! I really like the shape of the bird’s body!
I have only one little-tiny thing that I want to say about it and I hope you’re okey with a bit of critic/advice...
so, the shape of the birds’ wings usually goes a little differently, there have to be more feathers on the part of the wing closer to the body, they almost have to touch the starting of the tail ;)
Here are some pictures to show it a little better than my messy description:

Otherwise, everything else looks great! I love your style ;D

Oh that looks great, birds are one of my favorite things to draw (I’ll post one later). I have heard of using knives to sharpen pencils, but I do not think I am coordinated enough for that.

You know what? I have a war with pencil sharpeners because for some reason every single pencil sharpener broke or became dull once I started using it! So, I use only a knife to sharpen my pencils (it’s a bit messy though and also takes a little longer to do the sharpening but it’s not that hard to handle). I wish a knew the magic of being at peace with regular sharpeners!
(Good thing is you truly don’t need to worry about the size of the pencil once you have a knife)) :D

Thanks this is a very useful advice.

I would not try to sharpen a pen with a knife. I fear I would poke one of my eyes out.

Yes, I don’t think you can do it in any other direction :'D
I mean, you can, but it’s not going to be useful as far as sharpening the pencil

Looks once again really cool, moredhel! Did you reference a specific type of bird, or is it a fantasy-bird?

You know what? I have a war with pencil sharpeners because for some reason every single pencil sharpener broke or became dull once I started using it! So, I use only a knife to sharpen my pencils (it’s a bit messy though and also takes a little longer to do the sharpening but it’s not that hard to handle). I wish a knew the magic of being at peace with regular sharpeners!

I have a similar war, just the other way round. Whenever I try to sharpen any pencil with a sharpener, the lead of the pencil breaks. I solved this problem for a while by begging other people to do it for me, but have now also resolved to just sharpening them with a knife. The not-worrying-about-the-pencil-size-aspect though is a really great one, as I use absolutely every pencil-shaped-thing to color that I can find that is in a shade I don´t have yet.

I am clumsy enough both methods are equally dangerous.

@Mirasol it is a fantasy bird. Just took the pencil and improvised.

Actually it is, as long as you're not going to rest the tip on your face (or your chest or whatever else encourages not to have the blade travel all the way to the tip). There are certain specialized tasks in the wide field of woodcarving where cutting towards you officially is The Proper Way™, to the point of the tools being specifically built to be "pull knives". Not that pencil sharpening were one of those, but.

I have a similar war, just the other way round. Whenever I try to sharpen any pencil with a sharpener, the lead of the pencil breaks.
You might want to try
  • softer leads (which helps only so much, but still)
  • stop applying pressure pushing the pencil into the sharpener once it has been sharpened to the point of having a mostly-formed point (then the blade will have enough contact to the sides of the tip-to-be that just twisting will remove further material sufficiently fast)
  • sharpeners that will hold and guide the pencil themselves, if everything else fails

Pretty bird. Looks like a strange mix of a bird of paradise and a kookaburra!
