Counter petition to avoid long lines of question marks :P

Ehe, yeah, I mainly use large amounts of question marks in PMs to people who also use large amounts of question marks. I definitely wouldn't do, say, a three-meter block of text in response to attempts to figure out what the heck is happening with Lalli's collar, even if it is appropriate :P

Maybe start a thread for each page in SSSS? Just to continue enything thats going on, now that Disqus comments are time limited. Any interesting bits regarding that page, or not, could be transferred to that thread, and also make comments, issues ect. easier to backtrack.

Just a idea, I've got nonexistent experience in managing forum or any spontaneuosly generating data, it may be bad one.

Given the number of pages, that could become unwieldy very quickly.  Perhaps a larger forum with more staff could handle that, but I'm guessing it would be problematic at our current stage.  As an aside, if this idea was implemented it would probably be best to create a separate sub-board purely for those threads.

Also a question, does youtube embedding not work as I tried embedding a video last night and it wouldn't work.

Personally, I'd like to be able to put 3 in a row, cause it conveys a really bewildered feel. Anything more feels excessive and silly to me.  Either way, JoB's a clever fella with a good workaround.  I'll still update the smiley when we move though.

As for archiving every page... Noooooo.  We tried page-by-page threads at the beginning, and it immediately failed.  The SSSS board already has a lot of dead threads that no one's using, and threads like that are condemned to die as soon as the next page comes out.  The forum is meant for more long lasting discussion.
Feel free to PM.

Yeah, I played around with this a few months back and it doesn't seem to be a feature that SMF allows - though there might be a mod you can install? Could be something to keep in mind for the next version of the forum, but personally my connection is rather slow so I'd rather not have embedded videos...

I guess the three missing letters of the turkish alphabet (special s,i,g) will not be included before the server moves? Propper grammar is quite tricky without them :)

Yep, I was looking through the language threads and there are specific requests for the Serbian and Macedonian flags.  (I know most linguists consider Serbo-Croatian a single language, and we do already have a Croatian flag -- but *politically* the countries are certainly very different!)

On that same note, we have a request for the Taiwan flag.  Linguistically, I don't know if the requester wants it for the Taiwan dialect of Chinese (if there is one -- I gather they officially use Mandarin) or the Taiwanese native language.

The other flag request is for Catalonia/Catalan language.

Meanwhile, I've seen occasional requests for Sindarin Elvish, Quenya, Vulcan, and Klingon.  Are there flags for constructed languages?  How about Esperanto?

Esperanto, being in real-world use, does have symbols, including the "green star" flag. Klingon also has a flag, albeit a deliberately unsettling one. Vulcan is a member of the Federation most of the storytime, so the Federation's flag essentially snarfed up all the screentime that a Vulcan flag could have gotten. ;)

I'm not under the impression that Tolkien was very much into graphics of in-story paraphernalia, much less flags. IIRC the movies preferred pennants to boot ...

So, this is an odd idea, but I thought I'd float it by you guys:

I'd kinda like to mod the forum such that, instead of asking for your gender in your profile and when you sign up, you instead select which pronouns you'd like to be referred to by. It'd be nice for those minnions who are genderqueer/trans and those who just don't feel like disclosing their gender, by sidestepping the whole "but what gender ARE you?" question and getting right to the question that actually matters: "how do we refer to you?". The question of how to refer to people has been a big one from the start--there's a couple established forumgoers that many people still don't know how to refer to cough-Fim-cough--and it'd also be useful if we could display that underneath people's avatars so there's a handy reference while posting.

Such a mod does not exist at present afaik, but there are some that are similar which simply add new genders, like this one: http://www.animeneko.net/projects/smf/ I've gotten comfortable enough with the forum's innards at this point that it seems doable on the face of it, at least, and would be fun to play with. I just wanna know if you guys think it'd be a good fit for this community.

Edit: I can totes type. Yah.

There's always signatures or personal text for people who want to specify themselves as something else, or remain ambiguous.  There should also be an "other" option, when signing up, right?
Feel free to PM.
