è vs. e : arrrgh ! I knew it !

pas, non : it's all about translating 'not'. The usual translation is indeed 'pas', or 'ne ... pas' with a verb.
It is not bad : Ce n'est pas mauvais.
How is it ?  Not bad. :  Comment est-ce ? Pas mauvais.

'Non' is usually the translation of 'no' (as opposed to 'yes').
'Non' to translate 'not' and negate something other than a verb belongs to 'special cases', so to speak. I cannot think of a definite rule, I hope a few examples will help:
1- Lack of a negative adjective :
SSSS is an unusual, unconventional webcomic : SSSS est un webcomic inhabituel, non conventionnel. (no present dictionary knows 'inconventionnel', which would be a perfectly well-formed word, though. I may be accepted at some moment in the future)
2- Technical or philosophical language :
Le charabia : un exemple de non-langage - Gibberish, an example of non-language (expect 800 densely-written pages for a thorough explanation of this...)
3- Refined, litterary language: exactly what you wrote ! :-)

Penso che dovresti provare a parlare italiano più spesso. Non importa se fai errori o non sai bene come dire una cosa: guarda il mio patetico norvegese, con quelle tre o quattro frasi che conosco! Eppure mi diverto lo stesso a parlare in norsglish. E per dare il buon esempio, domani inizierò a parlare franglais, fritalien e presque-français. (Adesso sono un po' stanca, ho scritto troppo)

I thnk you should try speaking Italian more often. It doesn't matter if you make mistakes or you don't know exactly how to say something: look at my pathetic norwegian, with those three or four sentences that I know! Nevertheless, I'm having a lot of fun speaking Norsglish. And to give a good example, tomorrow I'll start speaking Franglais, Fritalien and Presque-Français! (Now I'm a little tired, I wrote too much)

Personalmente ho studiato francese per un anno, in prima media. Devo confessare che non mi è piaciuto troppo. Era una bella lingua, ma quelle lezioni si tenevano dopo due ore di arte. E io odiavo arte (non mi piace nemmeno ora). Quindi mi sento male ogni volta che cerco di studiare francese con un libro vero e non solo qualche sito come Duolingo. Ma continuo a pensare che sia una bella lingua, non la vorrei imaparare altrimenti!

Personally I studied French for a year, in the first year of middle school. I have to confess that I didn't like it too much. It was a beautiful language, but those lessons took place after two hours of art, and I hated art (I still don't like it). So I feel bad every time I ty and study French with a real book instead of some random site like Duolingo. ButI still thin it's a lovely language, I wouldn't want to learn it otherwise!

borges? no creo que eso sería buena recomendación para alguien tratando de aprender español. en honesto, es difícil para recomendar algo bueno porque la mayoridad de literatura española (o bueno, más aún que española digo en español) se escribe con español denso y literario. eso dicho, mi sentido es que existe una clase de literatura en español más facil de entender: la escrita por estadounidenses hispanófonos. les recomiendo sandra cisneros en general, pero específicamente "casa en calle mango"/"house on mango street". pero asegúrate antemano de que estas comprando la versión en español!

:uk: borges? i don't think that's such a great recommendation for someone trying to learn spanish. honestly, it's difficult to recommend something good because most spanish-language literature is written with such dense and literary language. that said, my feeling is that there is an easier kind of spanish writing: u.s. spanish-language writers. i recommend sandra cisneros to all of you, specifically house on mango street. just make sure you get the right language version! the packaging can be confusing sometimes.

Una autora bastante liviana de leer es Isabel Allende. Dentro de sus novelas tiene una trilogía bestseller bastante entretenida que consta de "La Ciudad de las Bestias", "El Reino del Dragón de Oro" y "El Bosque de los Pigmeos". En ellos no utiliza palabras rebuscadas  y su lectura es bastante fluida, ideal para practicar el Español

Oh oui, je peux aussi recommander de lire quelque chose de lui, surtout les trois livres que tu as mentionnés. Je les ai bien aimés il y a quelques ans parce que les personnages sont aimables et le "setting" (comment est-ce qu'on dit ça en Français?) est toujours intéressant.

(I also liked the three books from Mme Allende that are mentioned. Likeable characters and interesting setting.)

¡Gracias!  Yo no sabía de esos libros, pero ahora quiero leerlos. 

Me gustó "De amor y de sombras," también de Isabel Allende.  Tal vez porque la protagonista es periodista, como yo (era).  Y es un cuento muy romántico -- pero no demasiado dulce.  (La película parece diferente.  Los fotógrafos con quién trabajaba *yo* no eran como Antonio Banderas...!)

La única película que he visto de alguna de las novelas de Isabel Allende es "La Casa de los Espíritus". La vi de pequeño en la escuela y casi todo el curso quedó traumado O__O ... Después leí el libro y también lo encontré distinto a la película, definitivamente menos fuerte D:

No, no soy de España (tristemente :c), soy de Sudamérica, Chile.
Y sí, mi nombre de foro es una palabra estoniana que se traduce literalmente como "Cielo Inmensurable" al Español (o "Laniakea" en Hawaiano, que es el nombre designado por la Universidad de Hawaii al modelo que realizaron al medir las velocidades relativas de todas las galaxias conocidas con respecto a la nuestra)

PD: Debido a que en España se utilizan distintas expresiones, "de nada" significa "you're welcome" (al menos aquí en Sudamérica) ... sólo lo digo para asegurarme que no se malinterprete

Se qualcuno vuole imparare  po di Italiano con una canzone, consiglio "Stardust" di Mika e Chiara.  Mika è praticamente un genio che conosce(credo) 6 lingue, incluso l'Italiano.  Canta con una cantante Italiana, Chiara, che è metá Italiana e metà inglese.  Entrambi cantano in tutte e due le lingue e il testo è bellissimo!  Vi raccomando anche "Pregherò" di Giorgia, che è super famosa in Italia, e Alicia Keys, che è un fenomeno internazionale e anche "Indietro" di Kelly Rowland e Tiziano Ferro, che è pure molto conosciuto da noi.

If someone wants to learn some Italian by listening to music, I recommend "Stardust" by Chiara and Mika.  Mika is somewhat of a genius who knows what I believe to be around 6 languages, including Italian.  He sings with Chiara, an Italian singer, who is half British and half Italian.  Both sing in English and Italian, and the lyrics are beautiful!  I also recommend "Pregherò" by Giorgia, who is super famous in Italy, and Alicia Keys(you all know her, I bet) as well as "Indietro" by Tiziano Ferro, another very popular singer with us Italians( He also made a song with Mary J. Blige) and Kelly Rowland.
