You're right there. On the other hand, singing one's own praises isn't easy and takes long. I'm still not easy on speaking good about things I am able to do well.

I would really like to read your stories on Nanowrimo so please, everyone, give it a try. Even, if you're not going to finish :).

I think one of the healthiest parts of my psyche is a relatively high self-esteem. Which I get from talking about myself, and introspecting, so much that I can be relatively realistic about my own abilities. I know both my own bad sides and my good sides. (one of the bad sides is constantly talking about myself :P ). This is very practical seeing as depression and similar mental problems run in the family.

And I'm probably going to try to write. Probably not going to finish.

Like I had already said in the General Discussion Thread, I'm just hoping that I could complete 45,000 words.
I'm not very good at praising myself on anything, really. All I say to myself is, "You reached it". (And being a person who gets angry SO much, it's hard for me... )

I'm going for a surreal type of story. I've never written anything like it, but I find it interesting.
Half-crumbled I guess: :southkorea:

The important you write it down somewhere we can read it. Though my boyfriend would need to translate every bit 'cause I didn't take french classes. But I shouldn't press on about publishing if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

It doesn't make me uncomfortable, I do intend to get it published when it's ready; though about people reading it, I think it's fair to say the book would deserve several trigger warnings, in part for the biggoted things the characters say to each other, and in part for the disturbing imagery that haunts some of the dreams of the main character.

Since I don't even have an idea for a plot yet, I think I wouldn't want to make my story public, at least not without revising it. Imagining an audience right from the start would likely bring my perfectionist site out, not the creative one.  ;)

Rollo, with an almost finished novel you are a real role model here  :) Although I have to admit it doesn't sound like a story I'd read because I don't manage dark stuff too well.

I was actually thinking of a thread similar to this. :D So needless to say, I'm interested. Anyway, NaNoWriMo or not, having a writing/ creative works community would be awesome.

Of course, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I have several comic ideas that could probably be scripted, but I'd rather do a story by itself.

I'm going for a surreal type of story. I've never written anything like it, but I find it interesting.

I'm also very interested in surrealist stories. Hmm...

I feel the same way, but then again, I guess that's what a community is for. (Watch me be all secretive about whatever I do later, though :P)

For Rollo :
"Quand je m'examine, je m'inquiète. Quand je me compare, je me rassure." - Talleyrand
The translation is up to you !

Haha, well; I prefer to compare myself to better writers than myself; this way I have something higher to aim for and I can make progress.

That's great for Talleyrand, who did not lack self-esteem.  But even Shakespeare suffered in comparing himself to others, as in Sonnet 29

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least...
"The music of what happens," said great Fionn, "that is the finest music in the world."

If you're talking about the sonnet site, don't thank me -- thank Google and the mysterious "grledger" who provided the commentary.

I've looked through about 30 of the sonnet commentaries and by and large I think they're on target.  (Except maybe the stuff in the general introduction trying to show that the "beloved youth" is really an allegory of the True Church.  But what would Shakespeare scholarship be without a nutty theory here and there?)

How well are Shakespeare's sonnets known in France?  They're part of the canon throughout the English-speaking world.  But I get the impression poetry doesn't cross language barriers as well as fiction or theater, where exact correspondence of meaning and sound is less crucial.  For example, I would only have heard of (and not read) Baudelaire and a few other French poets if I hadn't also taken courses *in* French.

I am very fond of the sonnets and their sweet-and-sour attitude toward romance.  One of my favorites is "Being your slave, what should I do but tend...?" ... which I found useful as a reproach when dating someone who ran late a lot.

I'm going to do NaNoWriMo. I'm horribly busy and I've never finished any story before but I am going to succeed. I've never done it before, but I have an oddly good feeling about it, not to mention that right now I'm sitting on the most complicated and fleshed out idea I've ever had. (Which isn't hard since most are just an image of a snowflake or something...) Yay, I'm so excited right now!

Shakespeare in France is mostly famous as a playright, and unless you're in specialised English studies, you're unlikely to study him as a poet.

I'm intending to do NaNoWriMo this year...I still need to sign up, though. I have a decently-fleshed out idea, and since I happened to land on that "I actually know what I want to do and the idea hasn't gone stale" phase right about now, I've got a decent shot at it for once.

I just created a profile - I actually forgot that there was a youth version of WriMo, so I signed up for the normal, adult version. Oh, well. Time to show a bit of maturity, I guess.

I've decided to work on a story idea that I've been wanting to write for more than a year now, so I'm pretty sure I won't leave halfway through. I can't wait!
