Heavy indeed. And my original intention was to make it heavier, but I balked at writing the trully terrifying parts... I found myself uncomfortable with the prospect of pushing my dear readers into a nightmarish scenario. :(  Maybe I'll risk writing on that path one of these days, but right now the real world already gives us enough bleakness everyday.

I get it.  I'm not willing to go too dark because, personally, I write to get a break from how crappy reality is not to feel worse.   Nothing wrong with going dark, though.

This is a bit of a segway - but there is an amazing Marvel/Silent Hill fanfic that's pure horror and it's so well done I love it.

If I haven't created such a large "Stories to Be Finished" folder (see Jitter's comment above) I'd be tempted to dive deeper into this idea. There are so many interesting angles and challenges, and I even had done some research to familiarize myself with the situation before writing this story...
I'm sorry, Antarctica Story, but you must go to the end of the line.

Thankfully right now my plot ideas keep lining up to more or less go into the same story. Makes it easier.   Hopefully the folder gets easier to work through.

That's the power of well done things. :)

You're lucky. I keep having interesting ideas and failing to resist the temptation of turning each one into yet another story...

BTW I read your "bureocracy" story and really enjoyed it. I left a comment on AO3.

Yes absolutely.

I had that a decade ago and it ended badly and I basically quit writing for years, so this time I seem to be aware that it's either "wrangle the ideas or lose them".  It's still rocky sometimes but less so.

Not publishing until I'm at least 85% finished, preferably totally done, seems to be helping as well - back when I relied too much on external validation, didn't plan out plots well enough, and kept getting myself stuck and in a spiral over not updating enough.

I can also kajigger things to fit in new ideas more easily than if I've published.

Thank you! And thank you again for the comment  <3

Fate gives all of us three teachers, three friends, three enemies, and three great loves in our lives. But these twelve are always disguised, and we never know which one is which until we've loved them, left them, or fought them.

I already commented on AO3 (as Jiiri), but it bears repeating! Excellent writing.

I did not plague Reynir, honest!

BTW, it's Monday so time for a new prompt!

Really nice stories, dmeck and apprenticeNerd! Really enjoyed them!

(I already left comments on both at AO3)

So, this is Monday... Will we have a new prompt? Any suggestions?

Not that I recall... But that's not saying much :)

Anyway I like it.

It doesn’t matter either way, we haven’t had it recently and that’s enough. Surprises it is.

Haven't been inspired much lately, but today it happened! Behold, I bring a silly double-drabble as a late entry for Ingenuity.

***

“Look, Sigrun!” Emil positively shook with excitement. “Rabbits!”

Sigrun looked. Yep, those were rabbits alright. And yep, that was Emil, her right-hand Swede – he understood the value of enthusiasm.

Or maybe he was just hungry? The weirdly desperate way he stared at those animals… Sigrun felt her stomach rumble in sympathy. She raised her gun. “One delicious rabbit stew coming right up!”

“Food, right.” Emil fumbled with his own weapon. He didn’t miss, though; between them, they shot five, before the rest scattered.

Sigrun beamed. “Good job! Let’s collect them and head right back. I’m starving.”

“Yes, let’s… Only… there’s this thing, a Cleanser recipe. You know I’ve been out of fire for a WEEK? Well, if I could just–”

When he was babbling like this, it was best to indulge him. “Go ahead. Do your thing.”

In response, Emil threw himself onto the ground, with an unusual lack of care for his new uniform. Still weird, but… oh well. Sigrun collected the animals.

She almost regretted her decision at dinnertime, when a sudden flame-jet burned a tent to the ground in seconds. Almost: it had been Emil’s own tent, after all. And, of course, he was used to sharing.

***

This drabble was inspired by an article I found online. That article’s title: “Ariz. man uses rabbit poop to make flamethrower, shoots 30-foot flames.”

Oh goodness, what has the world come from that Emil Väserström is used to sharing? His nanny would be so proud!  ;D

That's brilliant. I love that there's a way to refuel the flamethrowers.

He's used to it even in Adventure One. Doesn't mean he likes it.
But, in this case, he might think it was worth it.

Don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Dry, aged cowpats are good in a campfire, and I have heard of the Plains Indians using buffalo droppings so.
