I am not familiar with such usage is Finnish, and it would seem more natural in Finnish to use ”snowbird” of a person who follows the snow, such as moves to Lapland for the winter season (many people in the tourism and hospitality trade do). However I don’t think it’s in common use that way around either.

However, Lumilintu / snowbird is a great prompt with or without the connotation so that’s what we have for this week!

Hmm, I just learned a new word -- that might describe me!
I enjoy snow and cold, but my partner doesn't, and so we have ended up escaping the European winter as much as possible the last few years. (Working remotely makes it particularly easy.)
So, I am tempted to respond to this prompt not by writing, but by posting one of my (very beginner-ish) watercolors of a tropical location.

I hit the snowbird link and this was the definition that greeted me
"This article is about migratory people from North America. For other uses, see Snowbird." (That one almost made me inhale my coffee)

Though it really is a bird (dark eye junco, which does show up at my winter feeders )

When i try and look up Lumilintu, I get lots of song links :)

heh heh.

Now to come up with some kind of idea...

That would be really cool.  Art is good for the soul.

Since our particular Lumilintu is the Hotakainen boat, maybe we can get @thegreyarea to write something on the Saimaa floating town?

I was in a morbid mood on the train.  This may be too much of a stretch

Dmeck, a powerful poem!

Please don’t worry about whether something “suits” a prompt. If you were inspired to create something, then that something is what the prompt was for you this time :) It’s not a quiz.

I had an idea for the prompt of the week.  If people think it would be fun.

I was thinking of Clichés.  How people take them from books, movies and use them not in life or in conversations.

Examples of movie ones
"Glitch in the matrix"
"Make my day"

Or book ones
"my precious"
"Tilting at windmills"

Etc.

Oh wow, I was thinking that the prompts were supposed to relate to the comic, but I just reread the intro post and that's not true at all! (I still think it might be nice to have that connection, as long as we still have the comic...)

This week, I was thinking about being sneaky and using the prompt to post an ssss story I have been writing anyway. And, well, I think dmeck's prompt might work for that, because it seems very open-ended? Unless I misunderstand it. (It's not clear to me whether we are supposed to take inspiration from a cliche quote, or to use a cliche quote in the story verbatim.)

I thought the prompt of the week was to take a them and write a SSSS story.  If I got this wrong I am sorry.  I misunderstood.

The prompt is very open ended.  Like in the story people in comments section use "butter good" That can be construed as a cliché.

I am sorry I mis understood the intent of the prompt.  Go pick something else.  To better relate to the intent.

I don't think the creative work has to be ssss-related, at all. (The idea was to keep the forum creativity flowing even as ssss ends and stops inspiring people.)

And your prompt would actually work very well for a non-ssss story: something set in our world, where cliches are cliches. (I am not sure our movie-based cliches would work in ssss... although, they do still have books. Jitter's series about Emil's book-based dreams would fit this prompt well. And there are always AUs.)

Anyway, I think the prompt is good. I wasn't vetoing it, just asking for clarification.

I’ll have to admit I was a bit unclear when I wrote the initial post. My idea was that while we are still getting pages, the prompts could be somehow related to something on the page. But not that they have to be! So neither of you is wrong!

Works can be either SSSS or something else. I’m sure we all love SSSS content, but in the interest of diversification of the Forum, also other fandom stuff and original works are very welcome! (Which reminds me, tehta, you were supposed to post some watercolor?)
