I'm not familiar with the oeuvre of Disturbed.  Do they play -- to use the technical term -- "scary music"?  (Like all the metal "folk songs" Fenris, Kjeks, and FinnishViking have shared with me...  ;) )
They play that one song.  :P

A friend introduced me to music by The Mountain Goats through linking to this song rec list and I'm falling in love pretty quickly... I'm going to have a lot of fun poking through their discography.

Right now I can't get Steal Smoked Fish out of my head. Also been listening over and over to Colour in your Cheeks. So good!

Today one of my coworkers referred to '90s music as "oldies".

That made me feel like I was a million years old. It also made me want to blast Motown for eight hours. But I restrained myself. (Which is probably for the better. Forced Motown listening can do strange things to a person. I know from experience.)

Time to dump some here, instead.
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - You Really Got a Hold On Me
The Supremes - Baby Love
The Jackson Five - ABC
Marvin Gaye - Heard it Through the Grapevine

And now for something completely different.

I'm not familiar with the oeuvre of Disturbed.  Do they play -- to use the technical term -- "scary music"?  (Like all the metal "folk songs" Fenris, Kjeks, and FinnishViking have shared with me...  ;) )
Nah, Disturbed ain't metal. More hard rock (although, some of their songs are more metal, and some are just plain rock). And Staal ain't 'horrifyingly, blast-fired metal' but a fairly standard industrial metal band (not really that hard, compared to say Enslaved, Dimmu Borgir, Trelldom etc).

I've been listening to nothing but Fountains of Wayne lately. They have such a way with lyrics. And when they're good, they're really good.

Cemetery Guns

This guy has a seriously good touch with his melodies.  It's precise but you can tell he's super into what he's playing.
Van Larkins - Nullabor Plains

Also, ever wonder what happens when you glue a kalimba to a guitar?
Trever Gordon Hall - Kalimbatar

Whoaaaa. Mesmerising indeed, and a bit nostalgic for me because I used to have a guitar teacher who was pretty much like this guy but with less hair and toes (well, probably).
