Yesterday evening, Penguin Cafe played in France for the first time in the garden of Cartier's Foundation. It was a joyful moment, I came only knowing one of their song, "Cantorum", which I like a lot <3 and discovered some older from the previous band (Penguin Cafe Orchestra, by the father of one of the actual member)

Mélusine, some 30 yrs ago when I lived just outside of Boston and used to listen to the college radio stations a lot, one of my favorite stations, WZBC, used to play Penguin Cafe Orchestra just all the time. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed them. Thank you for bringing them back to my memory :D

I found and made a playlist of most of the songs from Minna's stream if anybody is interested. I really enjoyed the music in the stream and thought it'd be nice to have it for studying or drawing or whatever. There were a few songs I couldn't locate, so if anybody finds them let me know, and I'll add them:

Tuulen Tuonto by Värttinä
Neidon Laulu by Hedningarna
Raudan Synty by Sudenaika
Valhe by Värttinä
Kussa Kullaiseni by Sari Kaasinen
Kylmällä Kyhätty by Suo

Here's the link to the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrPx8QogH1r32g0cpzcsOw8CyI4qtXNRV

I find the Fiery Furnaces tend to veer wildly between charming and the sound of a migraine headache :D

This is the (quite magnificent) soundtrack of the video game "Ori and the Blind Forest":

Set aside about 90 minutes, sit back and enjoy...

I've also been listening to a lot of classical guitar lately - Julian Bream, John Williams, Ana Vidović  - when I ran into this young master of the instrument:

Does anyone have a list of the songs from Minna's more recent streams anywhere? I seem to remember someone in the stream comments mentioning that they were writing them down, but I haven't seen them posted anywhere (by Minna or by Minions). I might just go back myself and make a playlist when I have time.

You can go back and view the stream, but I don't know whether the playlist caption also shows (and can't check on my phone, sorry).

It shows! I went back and made a list of the music from last week's stream (14 July). I think I got everything.

A eerily beautiful piece by Blood Axis that I ran into the other day:

And once again Blackmore's Night shows why it is the best group ever:

Even though the recent album by Muse, Simulation Theory, is very mediocre and derivative (though still better than the previous two), this track is still pretty nice.

The album version is better, however.

EDIT: Oh my, the Alternate Reality version of this track is absolutely epic:
The best track Muse has made since 2009, hands down.

thanks for the namedrops, i've heard john williams before but not bream or vidović.

i'll listen to anything by piazzolla... man was a genius. such a melancholy, heartbreaking style (although i guess tango is like that). this performer's got some chops too :)

recently, i've been rediscovering my love for beirut. saw them live last week, really great show. i still think their first three albums (gulag orkestar, flying club cup, march of the zapotec/realpeople holland) are the best, but their latest album, gallipoli, is good too.
