moredhel, those are snowdrops. There are two stories that will be under one cover, one is called “The Red-haired friend” and another actually “Snowdrops” ;) ;D

I tried to paint using only my new colors with the traditional pigments.

I like it although I completely messed up the perspective and the background.

Nifty!  The figures are the focus, so I wouldn't worry so much about background.  I did think the white dragon was closer in the foreground, though.  You may want to try a thin shadow under where the head rests on the rock, as you did at the front of the snout, and a slightly wider shadow where the rock falls away from under the neck.  That shadow can be discontinuous from the shadow on the ground.

Rocks are very difficult for me - trying to get a given rock's texture right either requires more time and patience than I possess, or I'm just zapping out a cartoon and detailing would give the object more importance than it warrants.

It's a lovely painting. I think the woman is especially well-done: the tonal variation/shading in the dress, the shine of her hair, the delicacy of the flute, the shadow cast on the rock - you've painted her very well.
I write poetry sometimes.

I used the carmine watercolor I bought and thinned it a lot. At the darkest shadows I used a little magnetite.

Great job, moredhel, white dragon with light background is a brave move! And it looks very good ;) I like the bluish-greens there, they do their job really well ;D

Thanks to all for the encouraging words.

If anybody wants to compare the mouth was painted with unthinned carmine. I like the look of this red as a mouth. May be the reason why lipsticks where made with carmine.

Well done, moredhel! The colours are indeed beautiful! <3 So this is a enchanter of dragons? Or the dragon just enjoys music? Also that's a very chinese dragon. Was the paint inspired by some story?

It was not inspired by any story. If I had any talent for writing it could be a point to write a lot of them, but I am completely wortless at writing. It was just a idea I had but ideas are half storys. And I managed to paint a fraction of it.
It is more a 龙 than an european dragon. And the dragon is just listening to the music.

I remember once writing a short story about a dragon and a princess from a prompt for the library writers group, in which an idiot knight decided to rescue a random princess from a dragon, found a lady playing her harp while the dragon sang, and charged in. The lady decked him for interrupting her music lesson.

Had fun sketching at the zoo, this is the best of the lot.
Also got lots of quick studies of flamingoes, may try to construct a larger piece from that.

Cute elephant! That's really good for a quick sketch.
