Title: Announcements
Post by: kjeks on August 04, 2015, 01:48:17 AM
Dear forumites,

Our community keeps growing every day, this is brilliant!
This also means that we have to adjust our board rules and standards from time to time. Especially if unexpected tasks occur.

In that case our team of moderators and admins goes into discussion in search for a proper solution. In this thread we will post the results of our work.

.

Lately we have been discussing rules for The Comfort Corner (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=384.0). We all agree that this is a helpful topic and are amazed how you people care for each other in there. Yet we felt the need to add some rules in order to prevent people from being upset by heavy content.

Sunflower applied the rules we agreed on here:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=384.msg56241#msg56241 (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=384.msg56241#msg56241)

In line with that we updated the information provided in the "Helpful Information" topic:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=416.msg56232#msg56232 (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=416.msg56232#msg56232)

We already have some other topics in the pipe so new annoucements will follow :)

And since I am one of the non-natives here, feel free to point out major grammatical mistakes or typos

Alright everyone.  Due to some weirdness involving guest activities in the General Discussion Board, I've barred guests from viewing that board.  The rest of the boards are still viewable for guests, but if you want to view that one, you'll have to log in.  Sorry to anyone who likes to log out when just browsing.

Figures, but what does 'guest activities' mean and why does it only involve that particular board?

That particular board because there is a lot of private content.  Things that go in the "How do you look" thread or the "Comfort corner" thread, for instance, shouldn't be as readily accessible.  Mainly to protect peoples' privacy.

Let me very quietly whisper here that we're doing a test with custom user fields.

So, now you can find a Tumblr field in Profile » Forum Profile, where you can specify your main blog's URL name, and it will place a little Tumblr icon linking to your blog under your avatar in topics.

If this one goes well and there is large demand, more may follow. :)

It seems like this little addition was useful. :)
I've made a DeviantArt field as well. I'll probably stop here for now, unless you ask for something else I did not think of. ;)

Also: what you want to write in the little boxes is only the username, not the whole URL. (Most of you got that right, I've only seen one or two wrong links.)
(I'm sorry for leaving it possible to mess that up, probably I'll fix it as soon as I figure out RegEx properly...)

Hey hey, just announcing that the master post of all art threads (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=429.msg67232#msg67232) has been updated (with thanks to Viola (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?action=profile;u=646)).

I still need to add descriptions to several General Discussion board threads, and need to double check everything again, but other than that (which should be finished by tomorrow), it is complete.

Also a general announcement that if any new tutorials are needed, shoot me a pm or something. I'll add it to the thread.

Title: Announcement: New Personal board
Post by: Eriaror on September 21, 2015, 10:27:06 AM
After discussing that cloaking the entire General Discussion Board for a handful of personal threads is not the best solution, we have decided to create a new Personal board for the most sensitive things, and cloak only that.

In detail:
The following threads got moved to a new Personal board (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?board=8.0), which is only visible to members who have posted at least one post. The General Discussion Board itself is visible to guests as well once again.

Suggestions and insights are much welcome! :)

Since the board is PG-13 standard, an age limit was applied to the board some months ago. We do not want to fully ban our under aged members who joined before the time that rule was applied. Yet we have to guarantee their safety according to COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Rules). At the moment we aim for a compromise:
They can stay on this board, post and read what others write. Since we cannot controll what happens via private messaging, we will deactivate this service for users younger than 13.

In short: Within the next 72 hrs. PMs for those being younger than 13 will deactivated. The users will receive a message shortly after this post is published.

We hope you understand that we do not want to exclude members who have grown to be a part of the community from the board.

Does this imply an official requirement to fill in at least the year of the birthday in one's profile, or is the triage based on an "I'm older than 13 y/n" checkbox added to the registration process?

(For the records, I never actually entered the "0000-00-00" listed in mine, or would otherwise claim to be approaching my 2016th birthday. It's just my clothes being a bit unflattering.)

It is based on the "I verify that I am older than 13" checkbox in the registration.

Basically the law works in that if we know you are under 13 legally we have to remove you from the forum since it is a pg-13 forum. If you are under 13 and we do not know then we are not responsible because there is no way for us to know your age. No one is required to put in their age. The users under 13 that we are not removing joined the forum before the 13+ rule was added to the registration process so it is not their fault.

Dear forumites,

due to recent activities we want to ask for your help. If you repeatedly receive upsetting private messages please hit the report button. That way we are able to see the message send by a user and will be able to solve the issue. It is also helpfull to see connections to events happening outside the forum that affect users inside.

Please understand that username similarities between outside areas and inside are not the only criteria we can act on. In addition reports help us rejudging warnings a user might have already received.

With very few exceptions we can only act on forum based misbehavior. Screenshots can be helpfull, too, yet we prefer you to use the report button as it makes the research process easier for us.

Thanks for helping us to keep this place an as welcoming environment as possible.

Your moderation/admin team.

Hello all! We've recently updated our forum software to the newest available version, which comes with improved security along with some small new features. In addition to youtube and vimeo videos, you can now embed imgur gifv (video gif) files as well; some info here (https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/208606616-What-is-GIFV-) on why that's cool.

Next, there's a few extra options for your spoiler tags: you can customize the "show/hide" text on the tag, and can choose whether to make it visible to forum guests or not. More info under the tag!

More Info Under Here: Clicky to read!

Spoiler codes can be formatted like any of the below:
[nobbc]
{content}
{content}
Spoiler: Some Text • show
{content goes here}

[/nobbc]
The {params} section may be any of the following parameters:
o text - Replaces default "Spoiler" text in the header.
o quote - Text that follows the "Spoiler" text in the header.  Must be in quotes.
o show - Replaces default "Show" text in the header.
o hide - Replaces default "Hide" text in the header.
o guests - Flag to show spoiler to guests or not.  May be n, no, false, y, yes, or true.

So for example, this spoiler's code looks like this:

As with any time we make a technical change, if you see any problems or general weirdness, let us know!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to announce some changes to the moderation team. Since all of our mature content board moderators have retired, we have decided to rearrange some of the current staff to cover their tasks. Gwenno and I will be accepting requests to see the mature content board, and I will be moderating and watching the board. If the posting rate for that board picks up we will consider new faces for moderating that board, but for the time being, it is manageable with our current team.

In the wake of the tumblr nsfw ban I would like to make a shameless plug for our 18+ board.

Come share your nsfw art and stories on the 18+ board!

Also if you do not have access to the 18+ board and you are 18+ and have made more than 12 posts please apply for membership to the group on your profile page. No need to put a reason.

I've been tinkering around on the site today in preparation for adding a political topic to the board, I'm sorry if it messed anything up for anyone.

I'm not finished setting up the political board yet, but I have fixed/added a few new bells and whistles to better protect the site member's privacy and to make things a bit easier.

First things first: @mentions should now be functional! There were some things broken in the modification that I fixed.

Next: Mature content access has been changed. You no longer have to apply to gain access, you can simply add the role to your profile under modify profile » group membership » 18+
The board will show up as long as you have more than 10 posts.
If a moderator or an admin has reason to believe you are lying about your age, your access to the mature board will be revoked permanently.

And finally: I have changed some of the rolls to improve privacy for members. The Super-Newbie roll is now anyone who has less than 10 posts on the forum. Super-Newbies do not have access to the anonymous board, the personal board, or the mature content board. This is to prevent bots or strangers from joining the forum and gaining access to more personal information that may have been posted on the board, and to encourage new members to participate and get to know the site's community before interacting in these areas.

Hey guys!! I'm going to do a huge flag addition over the weekend. I'll start with country flags, but if there are any specific requests please let me know! I want to try to get as many on here as I can, esp considering we don't really have to worry about space like we did when it was first implimented.

If your language doesn't have a flag symbol, please suggest an alternative image that could go in its place (like the sign language symbol)
Title: Re: Announcements
Post by: viola on November 08, 2020, 01:42:41 AM
I know I keep announcing things, sorry :P

The new flag codes will be their corresponding two letter country code (https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/country_code_list.htm), with the exception of flags without a country code. This is to save character space in people's signatures.
Examples:

Code: [Select]
:af: for Afghanistan :af:

At the end, I'll make a list of all the flags that don't have ISO country codes.

All flags will also be found under the "more" button just above the top left corner of the post textbox, under where the emojis display.

If your flag disappeared or isn't there yet, I'm working on it, I'm uploading something like 300 flags.

As of last post edit, all flags of official countries and territories have been added.

Hello! This is an announcement that the site will be going into maintenance mode on Wednesday July 14 from around 9-10am EST. The purpose will be to reorganize and create new boards for the restructuring.

After the new boards have been created and some of the main threads moved, the rest of the threads will be sorted through and moved in the following days. This might mean that things will appear to disappear, don't worry, they're just going to a new location. Nothing will be deleted in this restructuring. If you have questions about where a thread has gone during this time, you can make a post and one of the skalds or other team members will help you out.

We estimate this process to take a few weeks and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Another announcement will be posted once all the threads have been moved to their new locations.
