Title: Important Information
Post by: Eich on January 20, 2015, 03:20:07 PM
If you're having problems registering for an account or your account is no longer working you can reach an admin at keeplooking353@protonmail.com.

This thread is a collection of helpful little tidbits, for anyone new to the site.

BBCode
The forum uses BBCode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode), not html (link to Wikipedia; has some basic commands). So, if you want to edit your post's text size, font, color, etc., include an image, make a link, or anything like that, you'll need to know some BBCode. Alternatively, you can use the buttons above the text field when writing a post to automatically paste some BBCode into your post. Our lovely Lenny made a tutorial in the first post of The SSSS Art Museum (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=35.0) that explains how to post and resize images with BBCode.

Flags
We have flag images stored on the forum for people to use in signatures and posts. All flag images can be found in the "more" section under the emojis.

(https://i.imgur.com/Bx30qKO.png)

You can also use them by typing the two letter ISO code (https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/country_code_list.htm) of the country you want, inside of colons. No capital letters, no spaces.
Example: for the flag of Afghanistan you would type :af: and get :af:

List of Chaptor Break Survivor Ribbons
Starfallz has provided us with a range of ribbons for those who survived chapter breaks.
You can check ribbons and codes out at the Chapter Break Survivors (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=410.msg29578#msg29578).

Ranks and Membergroups
Post Based Ranks:

Membergroups:

Mature Content Board
This board is restricted to members who are older than 18 and have more than 10 posts. If you would like to have access, add the role to your profile under » modify profile » group membership » 18+
If a moderator or an admin has reason to believe you are lying about your age, your access to the mature board will be revoked permanently.

How to Report Site Errors or Suggest Improvements

How to Report Posts
If you see a post that breaks the rules, or you think needs to be edited, you can report that post to the admins and mods.
There is a button at the bottom-right of every post that says "Report to Moderator." This is a good way to deal with trolls, spam posts, etc. because it prevents you from getting involved
The same goes for upsetting messages. At the bottom-right of every message you will find a button saying "Report to Admin".
The admins and mods can see who sent the report, but nobody else can, so you remain anonymous.

Personal Help and Guidance
We know that people sometimes need a form of support we are not able to provide here. If you or someone you know is suicidal, please use the following links.

Staff
Here is what different staff groups can and can't do:

What a Skald can do:
* Split threads into new topics
* Name new threads resulting from thread-splitting
* Edit any calendar event
* Merge threads
* Move threads to different boards
* Lock/unlock threads
* Pin/sticky threads

What a Skald can't do:
* Change or delete anyone's individual post
* Delete threads
* Add holidays to the calendar
* See or deal with anyone's PMs
* Ban/delete users
* Major technical fixes

What a Moderator can do:
* Everything a skald can do
* Delete posts
* Ban/delete users
* Issue warnings to users
* Change the news

What a Moderator can't do:
* Major technical fixes
* Add holidays to the calendar
* Add those little country flags (or any kind of images)
* Fix bugs or site downtime
* See or deal with anyone's PMs

What an Admin can do:
* Everything a moderator and skald can do
* Create new boards
* Add/edit roles and membergroups
* Make boards visible/invisible to groups
* Add flags/smileys
* Deal with reported PMs
* Change anyone's profile settings
* Technical things (bug fixes, site outages)
* Add/remove holidays to the calendar
* Edit forum site code
* Database stuff

What an Admin can't do:
* This mostly depends on the admin

Great post, eich! When/if the linking issue gets resolved, I'll add it to the index.

Maybe also go over how to report site errors?

Might be helpful to pin this thread for easy access!

Very good post and improvement suggestions!
A link to the 'Forum index' post(s) by Solovei could help?

Courtesy of Richard Weir:  A helpful reminder that links embedded in Disqus comments don't automatically copy into the Forum.

You need to right-click on the links and choose "Copy link address" (or similar wording, YMMV). Then you can paste the link into your post.

Forums often truncate the visible text of links, and that is what highlighting and copying will "see"; the truncated form is what gets copied. When you click on the link, the browser looks at the actual address, not the truncated version.

Would it be possible to add the Ex-Yugoslavia countries (well, at leas Croatia, since that's the one I was shooting for ... ;) )?

We use country flags to indicate language. For this can we add transnational languages like Arabic and Spanish?

Okay, so P_ has discovered that using the form /me+third person singular verb predicate thing from IRC actually works, albeit only when it's the first thing in its line and /me has no punctuation or anything. It works within conjunction with other codes, like bolding or some such.

Eg.
/me does some innocuous thing.
/me fait quelque chose. (désolé Mélusine)
I, /me, love you.
/Me, I love you.
/me goes to this site. (http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp352/rockstar-doc/post-edit%20photos/philippines-12.jpg)
/me gives this photo of flowers from hell: (http://imgur.com/3VQ6CeS.jpg)
 /Me does this. (has a space in front)

Just a little helpful PSA piggybacking off of other people's discoveries. If anyone needs it for roleplaying themselves doing various actions quickly and "officially". It even comes in red, so another incentive yay.

Sorry P_.

For instance, if someone wants to know how to get there country's flag into their signature, all they would have to do is look here!
I've been trying for a month almost to figure out how to do this. Thank.

To correlate with updates we'll be making soon to the Comfort Corner policy, please note these resources (although we hope they are not needed):

I've added the information and requirements for seeing the mature content board to this thread for anyone who would like access in the future.

how do you save PMs that you've sent?
There's a "save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default" option here (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?action=profile;area=pmprefs;u=10)(*) and the sent messages should (then) appear here (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?action=pm;f=sent)(**).

(*) To get there through the menus: Profile -> Account Settings -> Modify Profile -> Personal Messages
(**) My Messages -> Read your messages -> Messages -> Sent Items
