Title: Spanish group?
Post by: Nimphy on March 14, 2015, 04:09:17 PM
I don't know if there are many learners here, but I, for one, could use some practice in Spanish. Or I'll end up losing everything I learned. So I was thinking about a Spanish skyping group, like the Norwegian and Swedish one?  :D

Can't commit to regular participation, but living in California I should keep my Spanish alive.  So keep me posted...

Oh, count me in. I am just learning Spanish, but I am enjoying the heck out of it and wouldn't mind more practice.

Sounds great! I know a lot of Spanish but can't speak it to save my life, so I could really use something like that. :)

I have a license to teach Spanish (that I've never used), but I haven't spoken Spanish in so long that I feel like I've forgotten too much. I'd love to have the chance to keep from losing it completely.

I'm learning and I'd be glad to join in every now and then! It would be good practice to keep me in the Spanish teacher's favorites (she has way overestimated my abilities and I am now in the advanced group. bad decision, bad plan, bad outcome)

Been 4 years since I've last had anything to do with spanish, but hey, never to late to get back into it.

Heck yeah! I plan on taking the Regents test for Spanish, so this will help me. :) I'm currently studying it.
I could use extra practice outside of school with other people. XD

Best schedule for me would be every other Monday, since I end earlier, by about an hour, if my memory serves me right.
That or it could be the weekends, or just after school, preferably a bit after 3, since I arrive home minutes before.

while most thursdays should work, I might be off gaming once a month. Shouldn't stop you guys though.
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday work best for me.

However, how are we going to do things with the time?
Going by GMT, I could do 7 pm, however that's three in the morning for Aul, so I don't think that's exactly perfect.
When does it work best for you guys?

I propose something like Thursday since that seems to be good for most. As for time, when I talked to Aul she said that 5 for us (me and Tera) was good for her (1am).

Is that 8 a.m. Pacific time?  I know Finland is 9 hours ahead of California time (where I am) -- is Italy in the same timezone Minna posts from?

I didn't weigh in earlier because I didn't want my odd hours to throw off everyone else.  But 8 a.m. is definitely doable for me.  How will this work, logistically?  Skype, Google Hangout, etc.?

Well, Finland is an hour ahead of me more or less, I believe? Anyway, the Norwegian group uses Skype, but no more than five people can skype at a time. Maybe Google Hangouts is the better solution?

Thanks. :)

So it'd be super helpful if, as I start to learn past tense (which I really want to do soon - I have a dictionary that's all Spanish verbs and their conjugations), I could practice them here, and you - as well as any other Spanish speakers that join the thread - could just give quick comments on how I'm doing with grammar and such (as long as it's not too much trouble, of course). :)

So, question: Is this still happening at the same time? I have seriously slept through every single Thursday since the time was set. I'll set an alarm and get my butt out of bed next week I promise, I just want to make sure that it's still at the same time. Or happening at all, really.

I was assuming a multi-person video chat, probably on Google Hangouts. Although I understand your dad's rule, RealRedCloud. Would your dad allow you to participate if your camera was turned off, or perhaps pointed at the wall? Maybe cover the camera with a sticker? Some way so that you can be a part, but your face is not shown (I assume that's what the rule is about.)

As for specific day and time, what works for the most people? The best time for me is in the evenings after work (Pacific Time Zone.) Perhaps at 7pm (1900). However, I am more flexible on the weekends. Saturdays?

No, I can't even put the camera in off or showing the wall :/ But I can type-chat because I'm always there (Like, my g+ account is always online)

For me, the best days are Saturdays and Sundays but only if I don't have exams so, maybe Saturday is fine :) And 7pm, huh? That would be like... 1pm here in Spain, so, I think that's a good time :3

What about 9am (Seattle time/PMT) on Saturdays? That would be noon in New York City and I think 6pm in Spain.

I am not an expert but I set mine up recently and sort of remember. You have to have a Google+ account (instructions for that can be found with a google search), and then you can access Hangouts through your gmail account. (I think it shows up on the left side of the gmail page, iirc.)
I'm not entirely certain how to find or add contacts though, but I am sure we can figure that out.

If anyone is interested in doing Spanish today, in about 3 or 4 hours, pm me and we can share our contact info and hablar español. :)

:mexico:  Tu no tienes problemas.

:usa:  You have no problems.  You speak better than me! :)  And also, I learned Spanish for two years at university.

I really am rusty at this, and need more practice.

Anyway, it's still perfectly intelligible  ;) If you need someone to practice with, I'd gladly help.

:mexico: ¡Hola! :-\
¡Mucho gusto!

And I didn't much like Spanish class, but I love the language and don't want to forget it. I never have anyone to practice with, and I have problems with grammatical tenses. And like everyone, I'm sure the there's a mountain of errors here. :-\
Nice to meet you!

:spain: ¡Hola!

:uk: Hello! Your Spanish is good, even the grammatical tenses but the mistake you did was " kindergarten" which means "guardería"

Ana, escribes perfecto!

Hola!.....Mi no soy español. Muy, muy mal. :/

:spain: Bienvenidos!

:usa: Welcome! I'm also learning! And don't feel bad about your "rusty" Spanish. We all need to make mistakes to learn (and the native Spanish-speakers are going to correct us when we say something too strangely :) ) You should also go to the introduction thread for welcoming in English and cookies!

hi don't know if you guys are still doing this but whatsapp is way better (but the catch is the giving your phone number, still it doesn't need to be a thing one schedules and stuff)

also I don't speak Spain Spanish but Argentinian Spanish(? which sounds different and we use different words and so I wouldn't be of help.

Hola!

About those books (good choices, all of them ;) ), I'd add The house of the spirits o La casa de los espíritus (Isabel Allende too) And apparently Logia, by Francisco Ortega is pretty awesome too, if you like mystery books. I'll start it as soon as my brother lets it go ^^. He's not very effusive about anything, but went out of his ways to let me know he really liked it!
If you want to practice a bit, Ana, we may try to schedule something ^^.

Welcome, Antifa!  I live in California too (about half an hour south of S.F.), as do quite a few other Minnions.

Would you like to introduce yourself on the Introduction Thread?   (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=131.0)That way we can all get to know you.

Hola, RoosArtwork!

Oh, shoot!! I didn't read it! ;A; ¡Muchas gracias!
