What state?

(thorny, in wine country, New York State)

Sorry.  Limited internet. Just got time back to go over my stuff!!  We stayed in a B&B in Penn Yan and went to a winery for a watch party.  (Cayuga Lake) All was great until about 3pm.  The clouds started to roll in and as the eclipse made the world darker and darker, the clouds did also.  So we did not get to see anything.  After it was all done it started to pour.

What was rather interesting, when it started to go total;all of the birds and other animals went totally silent.  Even the wind ceased.  It became about 5 degrees cooler and was night time.  It was quite eerie. We were on a hill, so were able to see for many miles.  Outside of the totality area we saw light surrounding us.  It was really neat.  We never saw the actual eclispe.  But we did get to feel it.

Plus the watch party had some great BBQ and wine, so it was not so bad...

We also visited some wineries :)

The problem with roos and detection systems is the same as with roos and fences. A big roo can jump more than six feet off the ground. And not just roos are car hazards: hitting a wombat is like hitting a boulder in the road. Though the most damaging accidents I have been in with animals have been when the driver of the car I was in hit a horse which was standing sideways in the road on a blind corner north of Alice Springs (fortunately for us what broke the windscreen was the animal’s back rather than its hooves), and a wedgetailed eagle that came straight through the windscreen of a truck in which I was a passenger as it came down a slope in the Blue Mountains. Being in a truck cabin with a big, injured and very angry bird of prey was extremely unnerving.

If you thought that, four-hundred-some years after the arrival of those snoopy Europeans, Australian wildlife ought to be out of new tricks and surprises ... ;D

Ok, I’ll go. Sorry for not following up sooner.

My comic for April is Root and Branch by artist Pink.

Note! NSFW! See content description below.

Root and Branch follows Arianna,an elven druid in search of an ancient power to save her homeland. During her journey she finds ruins and other remains from elves long gone, but the lands are now inhabited by humans. Arianna is endlessly fascinated by the ways of humans, so often incomprehensible to her.

From the human point of view Arianna is in many ways naive to a fault, sometimes in a charming but sometimes infuriating way. She finds companions who help her along, but sometimes the patience of the companions is also getting tested. A lot. But when Arianna gets angry, which may happen if some bad people are bad to good people, the perpetrators don’t live to tell the tale. She’s delicate but not weak.

I like the fairytale feeling of it all, and I enjoy the watercolor(like) art, although the ears of the elves look like they would look disturbing if they were actual people and not art. Sometimes the story takes weird turns, as in something is just left in an unsatisfying (to me) manner, but on the other hand it also serves to illustrate how the elves are not human and don’t always think like humans.

It’s currently updating approximately weekly, but Pink has recently had a baby so it’s possible there may be some pauses. But there are almost 900 pages now, so a lot to go before updates become an issue.

Content description: The comic has several occasions of full frontal nudity in non- sexual context (elf maiden lounges in moonlight in the nudd). There is also so far one sex scene, which is not graphic but is the centerpiece of the page and there is no uncertainty about what is going on. Some scenes are quite violent and there is blood and occasionally serious injuries and death. It’s not violent as a whole, but it’s there. And there are some occasions where mushrooms are used for purposes that are not recommended to be tried at home.

Living in wine country is good. I’m more likely to make mead or cider myself, but I have occasionally made wine, and my mate Trev makes the best Shiraz, and another friend has access to a small patch of pre-phylloxera shiraz grapes, of which he has given me several cuttings. I have one for myself, have planted one in the community garden where it is doing well, and given one to Liz. Where I live is in the little triangle where the Barossa Valley butts up against the Murraylands and the Adelaide Hills - very good wine country.
