At the moment work sort of puts a lid on gaming. Been playing a little bit of Civ 5 multiplayer recently, some Space Engineers (indie game), Garry's mod and a little bit of Monster Hunter Tri.I really wanted to get Space Engineers. Needed to hold off to keep those 20-odd dollars, though. Yeah, my new work schedule is keeping me from playing much. The last thing I played was Just Cause 2 (with lots of mods, of course) a couple weeks ago. During summer vacation, before I started at my job, I was playing ... lots of stuff. Mostly Pokémon, at the end of it, but also a lot of Kingdom Hearts, The Last of Us multiplayer, and Terraria.
But you can bet being swamped in work makes me dream about playing some of my old favourites: I want desperately to play some Metroid 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Phoenix Wright ... ugh, the list goes on. It would be impossible to list all my favourites really (although Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid 3 definitely are the top two). I also want to try out Tales of Vesperia. I've heard it's really good.
I also can't wait for the new Smash Bros to be released for Wii U. I am a massive Nintendo enthusiast.
I like games-of-building-stuff; sandbox games like Minecraft but also open puzzle games* like the awesome SpaceChem (http://www.zachtronics.com/spacechem/), which is basically a visual programmation game, very interesting but also quite challenging (allegedly less than 1% of the people who bought the game actually completed the default levels —not to mention the challenges and custom levels; there is a free demo avalaible, however). You might like Hexcells. It's kind of a flexible puzzler, and it's great. It's like Minesweeper meets Sudoku, so there's lots of ways to solve each puzzle, but only one answer. The last couple levels are a pretty tough challenge.
*: By "open puzzle game", I mean a puzzle game where instead of there being only one precise and unique solution per level, you often can come up with dozens of ways to solve a level, fine tune them to see what works best, try to find a more optimal solution, and so on —it's less "puzzle" and more "flexible problem solving"
I really wanted to get Space Engineers. Needed to hold off to keep those 20-odd dollars, though. It's pretty fun for a while, not really worth the 20 USD though. Now that they've got steam workshop support I hope to see more content and hopefully some new game modes though. It's more of an investment in game with potential really.
I've never played OoT or any MGS game. Haven't had the opportunity.

It's more of an investment in game with potential really.I've played in betas before and it was really enjoyable, but yeah, 20 bucks is a bit much. I got Starbound when it was on sale for $2, and put over a- uh, way too many hours into it during Christmas vacation last year. Overgrowth is really fun, too. I just wish the betas got more updates. Have to wait months at a time for anything new to happen.
Also I'm not an engineer, but I'm pretty sure Space Engineers is nowhere near actual engineering despite its pretentiousness.
You what!? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI8LXwG-sMA)
Currently I'm playing Wind Waker HD... Or I would if I could but the noise bothers my roommates who are both reading for exams and whatnot...Cool, so I'm not the only one who really really wants to get the new Pokemon games. I cannot wait to get me a 3ds and start playing those. The ones I'm waiting for right now are final fantasy 15, Little Big Planet 3 (!!!), and... Can't think of anything else cause I'm rushing out the door, but lots of things. This will be a tough year on my wallet.
I'm not going to whip out a list of my favorite games since there's too many but let's just say that I am SO HYPED about the pokemon remakes! And also Dragon Age III. And the... Wii U Zelda games.. And Bayonetta.
I'm going to go broke.
One random favorite is Broken Age, in steam! I can't wait for them to publish the second part!

It does. It looks completely stupid, but it looks like sooooo much hack n' slash goodness. That's the same argument for playing Kingdom Hearts; totally stupid universe, story, etc., but the sword fighting is just fantastic. Also, if you want a PS4, wait. Wait for the games to come out and wait for the price to drop another 50-100 USD. Right now there's only like 2 games worth getting for it.
FFXV looks so silly, haha. The roadtrip memes have already started to pop out... I don't have PS4 so I doubt I'll be able to play it any time soon.
Go get your 3ds right now! There's plenty of good games for it already... Pokemon XY is fine, but somehow it felt very distant. But games like Fire Emblem Awakening and Animal Crossing were very good, I enjoyed them a lot.
Usually strategy games. Railway Tycoon, Age of Mythology and XCOM: Enemy unknown. But lately I've gotten the hang of Skyrim, after some excellent advice from people on this forum. So right now it's mostly that.Beware Skyrim. I played it in high school, so I was safe, but I've lost roommates to that game.
Recently, a bit of Tropico 5, Europa Universalis IV and Dragon Age: Origins. Also been doing some mapmaking on Warcraft III, although I rarely play the game much these days.
I've played Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, and I loved both of those (especially Twilight Princess. Soooo good), but I've never gotten the chance to play the others, or MGSs. My first console was a PS2, so I missed out on all the Nintendo-y goodness of the N64 days. It was always the thing that my friends had that I knew I'd never get, because my parents are stingy about games.

I mainly play RPGs, and as a result, I just play Pokemon, Professor Layton, Bravely Default, and A Link Between Worlds. I gave away a lot of my Nintendo DS games for in-store credit, so I forgot what I played besides Sims and animal games. XD
I only have my DS and 3DS, so I'm limited. xD But I'm looking forward to playing Persona.
EU4 has such a gruesome learning curve! It's loads of fun though, although I think I have a habit of gaping over more than I can chew (http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/591412598504624146/DF4A8C12BE7ED41F8CA08AAD918491E524B6B618/).That's a pretty neat Germany, although seems like you expanded too fast. Who did you start out as? And yeah, the learning curve is a bit steep, but far less than any other Paradox game (especially Victoria, which is amazingly fun, but also amazingly hard just to not break the economy).
I'm still stuck on Chapter... 4? I think? of Bravely Default. Do you want to exchange friend codes?I think I'm on Chapter 5. And why not?
I think I'm on Chapter 5. And why not?
Ack, completely forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me, Eich!
You might want to pm that and edit it out of your original post. Otherwise you might end up getting dozens of friend requests from people you don't know. Though I don't think any of the current users would do something like that, it's just a precaution.
One more Pokémon player here, currently playing the after game stuff of White 2. I only own two other games, Pokémon White and Pokémon Y, since I didn't "find" Pokémon before I was an adult with a kid who loved the pocket monsters. Now we are fans together and my first game, Pokémon White, was a mother's day gift from my son and his father. Since then every time a new Pokémon game has been announced we've made a deal about which one of us will buy/ask for present which version. My husband has already reserved our Christmas presents: Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for me and Pokémon Omega Ruby for our son. I can hardly wait to get my hands on the game =)You're in for a treat. Sapphire was the first one I got and it's... well, great.
I accidentally read the list backwards and was desperately trying to figure out how Dishonored could ever inspire anyone to go into engineering, much less be a suitable game for studying to.I actually read the list backwards as well, until I saw your post. :) I might invest in another console someday as well! If I get the opportunity.
Journey is the game that makes me really want to get a playstation. Maybe one day.
I accidentally read the list backwards and was desperately trying to figure out how Dishonored could ever inspire anyone to go into engineering, much less be a suitable game for studying to.Yeah, Dishonored's really more for fun than anything. LBP, on the other hand... Well, I'm excited for 3 coming out soon. I might not be on the forum for a few days after it releases.

Also, now that I have money again, I bought a 3ds!
I also got a game I used to have way back in the day, the Megaman Collection. One of my first games, but I could never beat any of the levels, except in Megaman 8. I don't think I could even get past the first screen in Megaman 1, but I want to try them again and see if I can do any better now.
Edit: Anybody got some 3ds suggestions? I'm getting all the Pokémon stuff, for sure, and Sm4sh, but what else is worth getting?
I often read that FE: A was one of the best FE games. And a Link Between Worlds is really great as well. :)
Well, I really like Fire Emblem Awakening. It's my first FE game so I don't know how well it stands amongst them, but still.
Animal Crossing New Leaf is also... surprisingly good, and funny. Link Between Worlds also, if you like Zelda games.

I was thinking of getting Ocarina of Time. Is Link between worlds better, do you think?

I'm well aware of the dangers of animal crossing. I'm waiting for the next elder scrolls game to ruin my life, so that one will have to wait.

As a life-long fan of the series this is my assessment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s).I prefer a little more extremism (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eal4fep7pK4) in my video responses.
(But A Link Between Worlds is still lots of fun though).
I don't really mind either way. Kind of just depends on my mood, whether I'll like a game or not.
I haven't played Ocarina of Time so I cannot answer that.
Fun fact! I cannot help but loathe the most popular games in a franchise - games like Final Fantasy 7 and Ocarina of Time. I don't want to play them.
If you like dungeon crawlers/JRPGs, Persona Q is supposed to be pretty good, especially if you've played the previous games.I've got friends who've tried getting me into persona, but I haven't had something to play them on for a while, except my ps3, which I didn't want to download any more stuff to.
I've been wanting to try FE. I'll check it out.
Might try breeding up a team.
...
I'm sorry, I'm only familiar with pokemon yellow. When you say breeding ... What exactly is going on in pokemon games these days?
Yep! I'm trying for an umbreon with a couple of specific egg moves right now.
Excatly what is sounds like. You take two different pokemon with different abilities, put them in a day care.... DINGDING, now there's an egg? wherever did that come from?
Egg hatches, you get baby pokemon with unique abilities if you do it right.

Oh my gosh, this is hilariously child friendly. I picked up an egg from the day care, and the day care guy said, "We don't know how it got here... but here's an egg for you!" XD
Well, it's not like they could embark on an elaborate explanation of what happened.True. I just thought it was funny that they acknowledged there was a reason for it showing up.
Looking forward to December at the moment. I don't have much time for serious video gaming until then. I'm halfway through Tales of Vesperia and look forward to finishing it. Great game.
Anyone want to trade a milotic over to me in Pokémon Y? I only have wifi for my 3ds for another 16 hours... :'(
"Interpol here, we've received unsolicited advice regarding an ongoing illegal trafficking operation organised through the interwebs".You definitely do. International, endangered animal trafficking rings are merely simulated in this situation, Fimbulvarg. I'm now without a 3ds friendly wifi. It was very nice while it lasted...
I think I have a talent for making Pokemon games sound a lot darker than they present themselves.
I really enjoyed playing The Witcher, too. You know that there's a collection of short stories and a novel series on which the games are based? If not, check them out - they're part of my favourite books :)
And I think that explains to some point why the atmosphere of the world feels so intense.
As far as I've heard from people who have also read the Polish original, the German translation is a really good one. And the newest book is already announced *happydance* ;D So good luck for book hunting from Australia...
Back to games topic: My significant other is playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag at the moment, and he's always doing it in the same room where I'm working on my thesis. Without headphones since his are broken. By now I can sing most of the pirate songs... ::)
So it turns out my local library has all the Witcher books currently translated into English. Yay! Now I only need to get a hold of the rest of the books in German. Maybe eBooks? Hmmm...I'd also recommend 4. The assassin-ing wasn't the best, and the story mode was kind of lame, but the rest of it... "Pirate Ship Simulator" is a fantastic game! I almost completed everything the ocean had to offer before getting half way through the story mode.
As for Assassins Creed, I've played the first, second, and Brotherhood. I like the premise of the game - sneaking around on roofs and assassinating people. It's fun. I also like the landmarks. Might get Unity because of that. I want to climb the Notre Dame.
But, if I ever do get a windfall of money to spend on gaming, Black Flag is on the (very long) list. Because pirates are really interesting, and I would like to captain a pirate crew.
Right now I'm waiting for the Halo: Master Chief Collection to come out. Anybody else? That, and Sunset Overdrive are pretty much the only things that make me consider getting an Xbone. I love SO's developer, Insomniac. They made my childhood so much fuuun. I never played Halo, except at friends' houses. I'm not too keen on it, but I would like to give it a proper chance someday, and an HD collection sounds like a good opportunity to do so.

I dunno. Sunset Overdrive looks like something that would give me epilepsy. That's why they have warnings on games now, haha. If you've ever played ratchet & clank, Sunset Overdrive looks pretty tame in the explosions and bright, flashing lights department. It is very colorful and bright, though.

Kind of the opposite of conventional post-apocalyptic scenery- which is to say, dull drab browns and grays, except for when you're blasting the heck out of a zombie hordeExactly. That's part of why I want it, it just looks like some good fun. I could sit and play for a few minutes, or a few hours. I also just like the bright, comic-y style. Even the zombies are a bright, incandescent orange.

That's also part of why I went with a PS4. I'm not a big FPS fan, but I do like the runny-jumpy-swingy-happy games that PlayStation likes to put out every now and then, as well as the other stuff like inFamous and super cool stuff like this. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/24/ps4-update-lets-you-play-your-friends-games-for-free?watch=true)

...you play on a PS4? SACRILEGE.Well, not right now. There's no games for it, except the new inFamous. Which, by the way, is the only reason I got a twitter account. They added in a photography mode, and I've spent several dozen hours just snapping pictures, it's so much fun. How many games let you do stuff like this (http://pic.twitter.com/iu8F6tLjcH), or this (http://pic.twitter.com/SU1wYnfVgS), or this (http://pic.twitter.com/BfCD24d9HZ), or... or this (http://pic.twitter.com/RiIYmSAW65)!? ... I like that game.

Well, they said they were going to make a WW2 game, possibly with a female lead. After seeing them reject female player-characters in Unity because it was "too hard to pull through" I'm not really surprised by their backtracking on a female lead in their WW2 game too. I bet Tumblr is having a collective fit over this at the moment. Not to mention the rest of the Interblag.
New Pokémon game.
Today's theme song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLexgOxsZu0)
I thought you going to link to the actual theme song, in all its remastered glory. :PNope, just a song about being lazy and doing nothing.
So, does anybody have steam?Yep. It's the only thing on earth that could make me buy games I'll never play.
http://www.indiedb.com/games/infra/news/devblog-43Any chance we can get a beta?
New update from my game.
Any chance we can get a beta?Maybe when the time comes.
I'd love to give it a go.
Maybe when the time comes.Ah, you're killing me, man. :D
Ah, you're killing me, man. :DWhen the release gets closer i might or might not drop here some keys.
The last videogame I played is a little handheld that is CRAZY addicting called Shattered Planet. I recently got it on PC as well and I can NOT let it go (please refrain from singing the song). The last time I was addicted this bad to an RPG was Skyrim. I've also been playing a lot of Skyrim LOL and I recently got back into Dota 2 and Sims 3.Sims 3 is pretty addictive too! At some point I got really bored and made Sims of Tuuri, Lalli, and Emil...
Sims 3 is pretty addictive too! At some point I got really bored and made Sims of Tuuri, Lalli, and Emil...You. Are. Perfect.
The Humble Store is finally having its winter sale, which means it's time for me to stock up on video games again. So far I'm looking at:
Dear Esther
Proteus
Fez
Botanicula
Kentucky Route Zero (though maybe I'll wait until all the Acts come out, because I'm impatient like that)
In case you haven't noticed, I like video games that aren't very traditional and/ or have gorgeous visuals.
I played Fez last year, and it's gorgeous, both graphically and in every other sense. My advice would be to use walkthroughs and the like as little as possible, although obviously you should play it however you think you'll enjoy it most. If you are going to go completely walkthrough free though, you should be aware that some of the puzzles are almost impossible to crack alone, and it took the amassed internet a fair while to solve them, so don't get too hung up. Oh, and use a pen and paper.
I've recently been playing Ocarina of Time 3D, which is my first Zelda game ever, and I've really been enjoying it. Interesting to see all the ways where it's clearly influenced Fez, actually.
The whole perspective thing is also somewhat mind-blowing for me. I never get tired of just rotating the levels...
Well, like most people I suppose, I don't have 'ONE FAVORITE GAME', even so, if someone asks usually the first title that pops into my head is Halo 2. Not just because I think it's a great game, but it actually sparked my interest for shooters. I was a very stubborn kid, a friend made me play it xD. The newest console I had back then was the N64 (talking about 2006).
Anyway, a list!
-Halo 2
-LoZ:Windwaker
-All the gameboy Zeldas
-LoZ:Majora's Mask
-Starcraft
-Pokémon S/G/C
-Half-Life
-Portal 2
-Age of Empires 2
-Homeworld + Cataclysm
-Halo: ODST
- Marathon (this one's really one of my absolute faves, here's a link http://bungie.wikia.com/wiki/Marathon (http://bungie.wikia.com/wiki/Marathon))
- Borderlands 2
- Darksiders
- Metro 2033
- Bioshock
-Creatures (a breeding/gene manipulating/learning AI game thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatures_%28artificial_life_series%29)
-EVE, I've played it for a while and I love it but I suckkk, I had to be a miner, can't handle the stress of getting attacked.
-Dungeon Keeper 2
-Mass Effect 1
I'm sure I left out a lot...
I read someone mentioning Halo : Master Chief collection. I'm going through it right now, and boy does the Halo 2 remake look great! Didn't expect it, after Halo CE anniversary..turns out, the campaign, multiplayer and the cinematics of Halo 2 weren't even remade by 343i so, haha...
I like your style.Hi 5 8)

-Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
I bought this when I came out as a long-time persona fan! I love the writing and the character interactions but those battles are enough to make me want to throw my DS against a wall sometimes XDI didn't feel like tossing it yet, which is good. XD Except for when I repeatedly ran into FOEs by accident, and when I first encountered the Burning Beetle... And I accidentally once overwrote my 20+ hours of P3 side with the beginning of P4. Which made me nearly toss it onto the floor. (Which at that point I actually defeated the boss and went into the Love Cafe Dungeon)
(also I feel like it's harder to get new personas/make money compared to the other games?)

OMG like that one FOE on Group Date Cafe floor 2 that makes you move in the opposite direction THAT GUY WAS SO ANNOYING >____<Auugh, the torture. D:
Auugh, the torture. D:YEAH THOSE
Those Messengers of Love, I swear I'm going to get them someday.... T^T
Wait until we get to the Angel's of Love... (http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Angel_of_Love)
Squad's Kerbal Space Program - Assemble rockets from easy-to-use components, launch them, watch them crash and burn. Then try to make them get into orbit! You can play in a sandbox mode, or try to run a space program with budgets, R&D and strategies, upgrading facilities when you have the cash.
... poor design choices ...
That's quite inspired. :)
Have you tried any mods? I always use Ferram's FAR mod, though I will compare it with the new stock aerodynamics once KSPv1.0 comes out.
YEAH THOSENOPE NOPE O_O'''
JESUS LIKE
WHAT
WHY
WHY DOES ATLUS HATE US SO MUCH
T________T
the enemies on that floor are ridiculous too. Like "oh it's just a cute little ladybug-- Wtf it poisoned everyone?!-- WTF IT USED MUDO FOR A 1-HIT-KO???!!!"
Nnnno, I didn't know it was moddable (I use the steam version). Also aerodynamics sounds like a classic case of "tl;dr launch the darn thing".
Oh! Well, then, hie thee down to the KSP Forum (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/) and check out the Add-On releases Sub-forum (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/forums/35-Add-on-Releases). All versions of KSP - on Steam or otherwise - can be modded. There are plenty of sticky threads with instructions on how to do this. If you get lost then PM me on the forum, my tag there is "softweir".
The aerodynamics mod makes launches easier. If you want to design ultra-stable winged craft (ie "spaceplanes") then it has all sorts of tools to help - but I doubt you will need to look at those.
I just caught the Zelda itch yesterday, from listening to some of the soundtracks, so now I'm playing Wind Waker. ._.Knowing your obsession with guitars I'm going to assume this particular song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyOzrBTDS0E) had a lot to do with this itch of yours (also remix (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUUll4N3u80)).
It's... absurdly cute... and pretty darn fun.

The game keeps freezing after I beat the second boss. :(
I haven't played at least half of these games, heard of them, though. :)
But this list just started what I already had in mind. XD
..And I wanted to play Borderlands after seeing awesome cosplay of characters from the games.

That really sucks. :SGot it fixed! :D
Hope that game can get fixed at one point or another...
WAIT WHAT.Also, this. Very much of this. Free Pokémon is good Pokémon.

WAIT WHAT.It's a Pokemon puzzle game to be released this month. :) It's called Pokemon Shuffle. It's similar to Zookeeper Battle, (Or Pokemon Trozei if you have played that as well), where you match up animals to deal damage to your opponent.

Borderlands is super funny, at least the second game is (the first isn't that great) though both are very attractive artistically. In 10 minutes, wow. That is some large group of people that really wanted it. O_O
I'm super excited for MM 3D, my partner even managed to snatch the special 3DS, which was sold out in 10 minutes o_o
Didn't hear about the free pokémon game..

I cannot wait for this game to come out. > U <
In 10 minutes, wow. That is some large group of people that really wanted it. O_OActually, it happened to the 3DS and the special edition game, they sold out very very fast everywhere, and immediately you could see them appear on Ebay, going for at least twice their price. I read someone complaining about not managing to get a preorder because a guy working at gamestop immediately preordered most for himself...
This one, actually. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPsrvtzGI5w) :)That song is from Ocarina of Time (also known as the best video game ever created (
The game keeps freezing after I beat the second boss. :(
That song is from Ocarina of Time (also known as the best video game ever created (I know, the song just kicks ass and puts me in a good mood. They remade OoT for the 3ds, right? I might get that one if they did.in my personal opinioncanonically)).
Are you playing it on the Wii? Is the disk damaged?
I know, the song just kicks ass and puts me in a good mood. They remade OoT for the 3ds, right? I might get that one if they did.Yeah, they did. I've been playing it and it's a pretty decent adaptation.
I'm playing on an emulator. I got it working again; I just had to change a setting to limit the frame rate with the system's sound... not sure how that works, but it got the game working again.
Yeah, they did. I've been playing it and it's a pretty decent adaptation.Well, I may need to look into getting it, then. All my friends had N64s, so I only got to play it at friends' houses.
I suspected as much.
I think I might be enjoying this one more than Twilight Princess. It has a lot more to just randomly discover, I think. And Medli is the freaking best. I'm at the part where she's sailing around with me right now. :DI take it you haven't watched the full game grumps playthrough then. There are some golden moments involving Medli in that series.
I take it you haven't watched the full game grumps playthrough then. There are some golden moments involving Medli in that series.Nah, I skipped most of that one. I plan on watching it through once I finish the game though.
Twilight Princess is good but it's far from my favourite.
Twilight Princess is generally seen as the worst Zelda game, after the CD-I ones, of course.. I personally think it's pretty decent, could have been a lot better tho..but I DID enjoy it more than Skyward Sword (don't kill me, Zelda fans..). I think the worst I've played was the 'sequel to windwaker' on the DS, I even forgot the name..there were two, I didn't bother with the second one.
My first Zelda game was Oracle of Ages, it's super cute. I always picked the dodongo companion : 3
Oooohhh :D That's awesome, I love Pokemon Trozei! When the newest one came out, the place I was living didn't have wifi that my 3DS liked so I had to take the train all the way to bestbuy, get a nintendo points card, then go to a McDonalds near my house and leech their wifi for like 40 minutes while it dowloaded >_>Gah, doing things in the rain is really tiring. :I
IN THE RAIN, NO LESS!!!
The DS games were Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (now that I think about it Spirit Tracks sounds like a moonshine smuggling operation). Phantom Hourglass I played to the end despite the outrageous "Temple of the Ocean King" thing which made so many people dislike it. I liked the game but I rank it below Twilight Princess. Spirit Tracks is slightly better than Phantom Hourglass but Ironically I didn't finish all of it.

Oracle of Ages is the only Oracle game I've played. I liked the island with the severely birdbrained reptiles.
I've played both and I think Spirit Tracks solved a lot of problems that Phantom Hourglass had, like: unnecessary timed dungeons, clunky stealth portions, and kind of generic storyline. I hadn't finished it yet because I am horrible at finishing games (and I lent my DSi to a friend), but I loved the trains and being able to adventure with Zelda and the bunnies and just ~everything~ about it.Oh yeah, there was some bunny stuff now that you mention it. I have this vague memory of hunting down and blasting rabbits with train-mounted cannons. Then there was this amazonian all-male lumberjack village that was looking for ma!l-order brides. Now I want to play the game again to get these things sorted out.

For anyone interested in that free pokemon game, it comes out on February 18th*tries to make an attempt at scribbling it in her mind so she remembers*
I saw free and pokemon, what?A free-to-play Pokemon game called Pokemon Shuffle, coming out Feb. 18th! :D
Also, I am going insane, got my confirmation call that I can go get my limited edition Majora's Mask New 3DS (xl) and I cannot wait~ <3

Uohh, lucky! It looks amazing btw, and the material is smooth, doesn't look like it will lose color (like other handhelds did <_<). I don't know where you're from, but did you get the skullkid figurine with it?
Someone in the chat requested a screenshot of my SSSS-themed civilization game a long long time ago. And so, here it is:

I haven't seen Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 mentioned, has anyone ever played/heard of either of them? My dad got GW1 when it was first released(I think 2005?) and it was the first online game I ever played. It's been very inactive for the past few years, but GW2 is one of my favourite games now.
OMG this is all kinds of amazing <3Thanks cap'n Solo, you're most best :3
Those are all great names, but Lallifornia is definitely my favourite. I actually laughed, not just the 'breathe a little harder out of my nose' but a real laugh!Hehe, thanks. I felt like such a genius when I thought of it. The option was Lallihammer (after the Norwegian city Lillehammer) and Emilano (after Milano).
The original Guild Wars was the first MMO I played legitimately (i.e. not on a private server)... I think eventually I ggot all the expansion packs, but I never really had any friends play, so as I got busier I didn't really keep up with it.I didn't know anyone else who played it, but I was totally happy playing on my own since I was so young. I had all of the expanison packs too, but I never actually finished any of them. It's not really designed for solo playthroughs.
I've heard good things about Guild Wars 2, but it's a bit pricey for me.
Losing color? How do you mean? I have the Animal Crossing 3DSXL that came out... two? years ago and it still looks as pretty as the day I opened the box.I remember some handhelds doing that (not all), I had a gba SP that lost color really fast.

I want the new 3DS so badly (I don't have a 3DS yet, so it won't be a waste for me) but ever since I bought a PS2 and got a glitchy one because I bought it "too early" (apparently early release systems tend to be buggy?) I've been afraid to buy early release systems. So I'm trying so hard to wait a while for them to find and work out the bugs. But oh, it's hard. I want to buy Tales of the Abyss, Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, Rune Factory 4, and (coming soon) Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. PAIN.Hmm, I bought a 3DS in one of the earlier production runs and it's been glitch-free as far as I've been able to tell. I'm pretty sure the few faults there were (if any ever existed) have been sorted out by now.
Gah, I need to drag out my Golden Sun and start playing it again.Golden Suuuuuun! :D

I mean, come on.
Golden Suuuuuun! :D-bounces- Yes! Yes! It is so fun. I'm playing it on my DS lite as I type (yay for doubling as a GBA). I just love that you can pull stuff from Golden Sun and use it on Golden Sun: The Lost Age, too. I'm planning to buy Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (which I don't own yet) soon as well to complete the collection, but I'm determined to finish a run of both the GBA games before I buy the DS game. Let's see if I can pull off the self-control or not, mwahah.
Gosh, that game was soooo good. It made up a significant chunk of my childhood. Music, style, gameplay, all just great.
Really? How does it happen? Is it the usual "exposed to the elements" thing, or...I don't think that 3ds is going to lose color, I have it too the material is totally different. The SP lost color through usage, your own sweat would make it lose color .-.
Well, I've have to see how long my Pokemon X and Y 3DSXL lasts.
Started making an SSSS mod for Civilization 5 a few days back (so far, finished the map itself in a standard-size and huge-size version, and halfway done with implementing a Trond-led Norwegian civilization(its fully functional, but has no unique unit or building yet), although its a slow process due to it being quite a number of years since I last tried to mod a civ game (I semi-remember how to mod the xml files, but have forgotten everything I learned about lua). Anyone care to help? The areas where I'm unable to do much is the graphical element (did make icons for the nations, and just using pages for the comic as a stand-in for leader and starting screens), and I have zero knowledge of lua left at this point.I like the idea, but I know nothing about 3d-modeling, animation and lua so ....yah. At best I could help you with 2d images.
My plans for the mod is to make a total of six civs (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia and Scotland), not including Iceland as a civ due to balance issues + couldn't fit Iceland on the map while making it large enough for roving trolls to be a serious threat, replace the tech-tree, units and buildings, disable faith, city-states and policies, and general revamps (changing barbarians into trolls, making culture and purchase of tiles represent cleansing).
Speaking of which, I started a Steam group if anyone is interested! And we do have loads of fun on our SSSS terraria server run by Eich, captain of the SSSS-forum dungeoneering/spelunking/home furnishing squad.

I have been playing Cities Skylines a lot in the last two or three days :DAnd? Is it good? I've never really played any sim-city games but skylines caught my eye.

Hmm, are there any PC games out there that anyone highly recommends? Multiplayer and/or Single Player is fine, too.
There are some that I've read in the thread, but I would love to compile them into one list, so it's easier to see and refer to later on.
Do you like Roguelikes?Hmm, I've never heard of Roguelikes, but I'll add it to my list (On a sheet of paper). :) I'll check it out tomorrow!
Because I you do, I really do think you should check out Cataclysm:DDA, its about surviving after 5 different apocalyptic scenarios happened simultaneously, the predominant one is a zombie apocalypse though. Its also open source, if you are the kind of person who thinks of that as a plus.
The fact that I do lightweight dev work on it has nothing to do with my recommendation, nothing to do at all.

You should check out Homeworld Remastered, a great scifi RTS! The remaster is great and the two games have aged overall pretty well. What else... Definitely check out Terraria if you're into side scrolling games and Minecraft, haha. Personally I prefer Terraria to Minecraft, the style is cuter and there's a lot of cool stuff to do and ridiculous boss battles. Oh yeah and Pillars of Eternity comes out later this month!! Definitely check that out if you're into RPGs, it's similar to old school Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin, Dragon Age etc. I am super excited about it.It just so happens that we've set up a Terraria SSSS-server. Old school pc games are good, I consider Knights of the Old Republic II to be the greatest PC game of all time (but then again that's not really that old school). Otherwise Age of Empires, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Corsairs and Army Men are some good classic PC games.
John mentioned Roguelikes, I would also recommend The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Rogue Legacy! Both are pretty fun and are in the vein of "Dungeon Crawlers". They're on consoles as well, but I first played 'em on PC!
Hmm I am drawing a blank on anything else, I can recommend a ton of classic PC games (Deus Ex!!) but I imagine you might want something more recent :p

SO. The Elder Scrolls Online now has no mandatory subscriptions! (http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/news/post/2015/03/17/welcome-to-tamriel-unlimited) Apparently they're replacing it with a membership that gives you stuff like in-game currency and extra experience points and things instead.Ah, so a premium account system. That's actually starting to become somewhat common even for sophisticated games (which TOS Online may or may not be, I have no bearing on that). I still wouldn't consider playing it though, simply because MMORPGs demand a lot of commitment to amount to anything worthwhile in my experience - which is why I never got involved in WoW when everyone else and their mums were.
I am not complaining, not at all. I might be actually able to play the game now. *too poor for subscriptions* I was in the open-beta, it wasn't bad (actually a pretty nice MMO), and they've definitely improved things since. A once-off payment of $70 is something I can actually seriously consider. A once off payment of $70 and continued monthly payments of $15 was not.

Just curious, has anybody tried out Ori and the Blind Forest? I'm tempted by it, and the reviews are, well, unheard-of-level-good. With a starving student's budget, I'm very careful in my choices of games, but this looks like it might be the one I could fall in love with after Transistor...

Apparently 4Chan (of all places) is developing a Pokemon game with a South-American theme. Aside from some strange type combination it looks surprisingly good (http://imgur.com/gallery/N7loz).the Growmeo line is hilarious and awesome. Same with the Chihaha line.

Unfortunately, I don't think I saw a pseudo-legendary line? That's, like, one of the most important parts! What is a pseudo-legendary line? Like the Dragonite line?
What is a pseudo-legendary line? Like the Dragonite line?Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, exactly.Figures. Been a while since I dealt with base stat totals. To be totally honest though I'm not really interested in Legendary Pokemons, I always form a team based on Pokemons I think are cool/capture early. Which is why my generation V team consists of Seismitoad, Braviary, Scrafty, Samurott, Krokorok and Lilligant.
I think I found it after posting that, with something that ended up being... Dark/Steel type, toward the bottom of the list? The qualifications for being pseudo-legendary are having 3 forms, and a base stat total of 600 when fully evolved. They're also really hard to catch. Excluding legendaries, they're the best regular Pokemon in a game, stat-wise.

Which is why my generation V team consists of Seismitoad, Braviary, Scrafty, Samurott, Krokorok and Lilligant.I do something similar. I don't include legendaries in my team because they're just kinda overpowered. I make a team out of my favorites that I find along the way... so usually just the cool/cute ones, though I try to keep my types balanced, and always have a steel and water type with me by the end. Usually that means going with only my starter through at least the first gym, before anything fun shows up.
I'm sitting here watching my thirteen year old sister try playing Portal for the first time - it's rather amusing. She really, really gets some things about portals, but can't figure out other, very basic things. She just got ahold of the orange part of the gun, so here's proud :PYou're doing worlds of good for your sister.
In other news, I have introduced her to the wonderful world of SSSS, mwahaha...
You're doing worlds of good for your sister.
*Pins badge on Adrai* *Salutes*
I just got my mom to play Journey (Her first video game), and I really need to get her to play Portal one day. I just know it'd be entertaining.
Hooray! I'm a good brother!N- Nuh- Ne... Never heard of Journey? :O
My sister's actually a surprisingly avid gamer - she was playing Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour at age three, and was actually managing to get decent scores.
Heh, it is quite amusing... Never heard of Journey, though. Might check into it.
I actually managed to get my mom to play Luigi's Ghost Mansion from Nintendo Land with the rest of my family - and she enjoyed it! I'm astounded. Of course, she had to quit after three games on account of it being "too stressful". Ah well...
N- Nuh- Ne... Never heard of Journey? :O
I'm definitely gonna recommend it, seeing how it's my favorite game! :D It's a PS3 exclusive, so that might be why you haven't heard of it, if you stick with PC and Nintendo.
My mom thought Journey was stressful as well. Which is odd, because I picked it in part for how serene and relaxing it is. And Luigi's Mansion is so lighthearted... Moms are unusual.
Hmm, survival...I know this one, haven't tried it myself, I think Markiplier mentioned it in a video. It does remind me of another one Don't starve, if you've heard of it. Not as serious as The long dark, but quite close in concept.
Have you tried The Long Dark? I love it because it's pure survival - you, alone, in the Canadian Wilderness. Dealing with cold and hunger and thirst and wolves... it's terrifying and difficult without being over the top, and the biggest thing to beware is ignorance. It's also got a cool minimalistic style, so there's that. It's in alpha at the moment, so be warned that it's still in development, but I'm very happy with even the current state of the game.

I dunno - I found the sections with the flying rock monsters intense.

hi guys :3c
has anyone here heard of the world ends with you for nintendo ds? its a square enix game that sOMEHOW NEVER GOT POPULAR?!?! much to my anguish, although you may have seen the characters in kingdom hearts dream drop distance! its honestly my favorite game and pretty much the only one im actually Good At, i l o v e everything about it 10/10 a++
Just curious, has anybody played the original Cave Story?
I finally, finally bought, and just finished playing, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
...
That game is the most beautiful thing ever. And man, I really like the way they worked with the traditional point/click type game to create this. I've played many, many point/click mysteries over the years, and this one... feels like how it should work. No automatically added clues, no on-screen notebooks, no UI that takes up 30% of the screen, no illogical triggers (like mwhahaha the story won't go on unless you specifically notice this unobtrusive suitcase over there in the corner or something equally weird), and the game's scenes aren't in a strict set order. They really did what they could to make the game as immersive as possible, and it pays.
Also, it's incredibly beautiful, without being hell to run on a mid/low-end computer. Incredibly interesting method they used to do that, too. (http://www.theastronauts.com/2014/03/visual-revolution-vanishing-ethan-carter/)

So I recently bought FNaF3 and have found it to be rather interesting. I refuse to play it with head phones in, cause sudden loud noises. I was wondering if anyone else here plays it/follows it?I don't play it (I can't play any games really ;-;) but I quite enjoy watching the videos of other people playing it ^_^ I don't usually like horror games (well, I LOVE them but just a specific type) but fnaf has the right balance of horror, a cool look, purpose, jumpscares and a creepy backstory... I also like it from a 'making' point of view, I like the design and concept, it reminds me of a really well done project someone in my design class might try and make :3

I was wondering if anyone else here plays it/follows it?I've played them all thanks to some friends talking me into it (well knowing that i'm absolutely terrified of jumpscares), and they're enjoyable but stressful as heck at the same time. I'd say the first and third game are the ones I like the most out of the series!
I've seen some videos of it (Markiplier among others) since most youtube letsplayers and their mothers seem to have made a video of it at some point. Without having played it myself I have to say that I don't quite understand what the big scare is. It's like Slendeman, supposedly very exciting but not actually that scary.

I watched someone play Dead Space once (in person, sitting beside them) and I was terrified. But then when I played it myself I wasn't scared so much as frustrated that I kept dying and not figuring out the controls XD
Speak for yourself, I almost had an accident when the fox got someone in a playthrough (weakness: jump scares). :D

Sorry*!"
I don't count jumpscares as being scary though. I mean, even John Rambo would jump a little if an entire orchestra suddenly blurted into his ear but that doesn't really count as "being scared".Your right on the jump-scares, but I think it's the tension that leads up to it that makes them scary.

It's a pretty okay game, however, I've never played it myself (not a horror game fan).
The thing that surprises me the most is how Scott managed to churn out 3 games in under one year, each of which has been successful. Now that's impressive.
I have a feeling he might have had them lined out and ready to go (or almost ready to go) before releasing the first, or he has no life outside of video game making.
I think it could be either one. However, I don't think it would take that long to make a FNAF game due to it being just a bunch of static and animated images.
It's not just that. It's a complete 3D world (even though you don't move through it) there is an incredible amount of detail there that it's really cool to look at.Well, there's no doubt about that. I also like how Scott managed to stuff in a pretty extensive background story into just 3 short games (although the story that is widely accepted may not be true for all we know :P ).

It's part of the mystery. We can only be sure of what we know, which isn't that much actually.
Yeah. It's part of the mystery. We can only be sure of what we know, which isn't that much actually. And I hope that it stays that way. If Scott revealed the truth, then one of the biggest and best parts of FNAF, all the different theories, would be destroyed.

Yeah, I like the mystery. Have you heard they're making a movie?Yes I have. I've been wondering about it. Who'll be in it? Will they stay canon or not? How many of the three games will they span? Will it actually be successful?

Concerning that last one, video game movies usually end up negative in profits. A pretty good director is working on this one, so hopefully it'll break that trend of bad movies.
I might watch it depending on how well it goes over.
I might go as well. A couple of my friends are definitely going as soon as it comes out due to their love of FNAF.
@ClairityKoi - so, the site lets you play until you first log out and then locks the game until you pay for it? Cause that's what seems to have happened to me. Just checking to see if I'm missing something.
Hmm, I think that might have happened to me as well, but I prolly wasn't aware of it happening. At the time I just thought that they had taken the first episode off of free-to-play. That sounds like a little bit cheap of a ploy, buuut.. Each episode on Steam is pretty cheap, and if I remember correctly, the first 2 are bundled together, and you get them both for the price of one of them.Sounds good, except I don't use Steam. I don't know if this is the game that'll make me get an account. I didn't like the aesthetics, but I do find myself wondering about how the story progresses. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be another way to buy chapters.
Just curious, has anybody else played The Last Door?

How did you get all those keys?
Tended bar at one of Coffee Stain Studios' office parties. It was the celebration of 4 million sold copies of Goat Simulator, I think... anyway, the CEO was handing these little key-cards out like candy and left a bunch behind for the staff. Told us to pass them out.

"TIS-100 is an open-ended programming game by Zachtronics, the creators of SpaceChem and Infinifactory, in which you rewrite corrupted code segments to repair the TIS-100 and unlock its secrets. It’s the assembly language programming game you never asked for!"
Just got my 100% completion trophy in Bloodborne yesterday. The game is amazing, and anyone who has a ps4 should get it immediately. I'm not sure where it will land in my top 10, but it's in there for sure.
...Now on to Dark Souls.
Also, just curious, has anybody played Nidhogg? Immensely fun, simple fighting game, great for parties and lots of insane laughter.Although I've never played it, I've seen my friend play it a lot on his laptop at school, so I think I have a general understanding of how the game works. It's pretty great when you have somebody who knows nothing about the game to try and play it (guaranteed to end in laughter every time).

I'm not a computer programmer either, but I love programmation-based game, especially those released by Zachtronics (though to be fair this one does seem quite hard-core compared to their previous titles [which aren't exactly easy either, but yeah]).
Also, I kinda want to try out Bloodborne and all of the Dark Souls games...
I highly recommend them! I also wish to heavily warn against them, or at least throw in a good word of caution. Dark Souls can be rage inducing. It requires huge amounts of patience and a huge amount of time to succeed, and still longer to master. It's been about a year since I bought the game, and I'm still learning (albeit at a much faster pace). I remember my first encounter with a mini-boss taking a good week to complete my first time, and that's just in one of the starting areas.
If you can make it through, and learn and succeed, it is absolutely rewarding, fun, and interesting. If you can't, well, just remember that defeat is a part of life in Dark Souls, and maybe come back in a few days. If you really can't, don't say I didn't warn you! I got pretty close to quitting in the first month of playing, and then in the next, but perseverance payed off in the end.
Congrats! How long did it take you to complete, from start to finish? I think it took me at least half a year to complete my first Dark Souls playthrough. Also, is there a "newgame+" feature with Bloodborne? I've made it to NG+2 (3rd playthrough) with my original Dark Souls character, and I still haven't found everything there is to discover in the world! It took me about... 2 months? Can't really remember when I got it for some reason. I haven't technically done all of the chalice dungeons, but... they're all the same, and I got all the trophies anyway. And there iiiiiis a NG+! Most best it is. I'm on NG+2 right now, actually. Sadly, there's not a whole lot to the game. I think they couldn't finish everything they had planned, because it's pretty short. There's an expansion in the works though, and that should come out some time this year.
And here's the trailer!
Spoiler: "First impressions" show
Usually it's only POV games (I think that's the right term? You play from a 1st person view, at least)For perspectives- generally people just use FPS or 3PS (first- or third-person shooter), even if the game in question isn't a shooter.
I even got nauseous when playing Spyro: A Hero's Tail some time ago.
On the subject of Fallout 4- the new Vault Dweller comes from Vault 111, the previous one was from Vault 101.
Hmmmm.
(You probably already noticed this but eh)
For perspectives- generally people just use FPS or 3PS (first- or third-person shooter), even if the game in question isn't a shooter. Thanks! I usually only discuss games in Norwegian, so my vocabulary is a bit wonky :v
Also, I remember that game! Nostalgia-inducing, even though looking back it was probably pretty mediocre.
I'm a huge fan of the Spyro games, I only stopped recently with the Skylanders-thing which I really didn't like. Except for that I've been playing as many games as possible. Hoping to play through the original PS1 games in not too long, only for the nostalgia.
I'm surprised people under the age of 20 consider Spyro 1 to be nostalgic, considering that the game was already quite old when they grew up.Well, I had a Gamecube when they were still pretty new, so I grew up on Spyro, Star Fox and Mario..

Spyro the Dragon was a Playstation 1 game, released in the late 90s - though there were obviously later titles.
(looking at you, KotOR II)
Hey now, KotOR I was great too. Maybe not as great, but still.
Now if they'd only stop making f2p tank games and make a third one that would be kinda great.
Oh don't get me wrong, I loved KotOR I too, but KotOR II is my fav Star Wars game of all time, followed tightly by Battlefront II and Jedi Knight: Jedi AcademyI bought the Old Republic *one day* before it went F2P, like, two years ago.
Although KotOR I was made by Bioware who currently runs The Old Republic. I agree, I want them to create a third in the series, I felt like they more or less butchered the established lore with the MMO :(
Oh boy, the Steam sale has begun! I'm getting my paycheck over the weekend so this'll be goodhah haha

It's actually a pretty good MMO if you ignore all the story issues, so I might reinstall it sometime.
What story issues do you have in mind?
SWTOR is only the second MMO that I ever played, and I considered the story actually good? I mean... The only MMO I played before SWTOR was LOTRO, and the fact that SWTOR has those dark side and light side points and so many cool interactions between characters got me really excited.
Don't mind us. We just choose to cling to the story that was established in the preceding (singleplayer) games.
Oh... Sorry. I started playing SWTOR very recently, so I have never played KoTOR.Eh, no problem. SWTOR's story actually isn't too bad (and I still need to reinstall it), I just prefer KOTOR.

I'm most excited for Dishonored 2. The first was so good, and thanks to in-game books and such Arkane managed to ace the worldbuilding.
Emily Kaldwin and Corvo Attano rides again
I made some pretty incoherent noises while watching the trailer this morning! It looks to be amazing, can't wait, and I can already feel the urge to cosplay rising...

I'm assuming they'll be using one of the first game's... not-worst endings as canon.
Same here, I was literally squeaking a little to myself when her name was said aloud. I wasn't entirely surprised though because I was always thinking it would be such a perfect idea, but at the same time I was fearing that like with all perfect ideas that one might not come to be at all. But it did and I've been happy all day!As soon as I saw the lady-hands I was like, "Oh please tell me that's who I think it is."
Instead of preparing for my exams, I'm replaying obscure stuff I used to play when I was 6 years old... :(O________________O
Cool, so I'm not the only one who really really wants to get the new Pokemon games. I cannot wait to get me a 3ds and start playing those. The ones I'm waiting for right now are final fantasy 15, Little Big Planet 3 (!!!), and... Can't think of anything else cause I'm rushing out the door, but lots of things. This will be a tough year on my wallet.Oho, so you play on PS?! I have both PS3 and PS4 (well, there's a PS2 somewhere, too, but ...).
Most times its just Age of Empires II or I. My laptop doesn't support anything new. When works leaves time I try to get old games working with the help of Dos-Emulator. As I'm far away from blessed with programming skills this is kinda tough for me. When everything is set up, I will work on Maniac Mansion Part II and The Elder scrolls Arena ;).Humble bundle's running a weekly with classic games (some nice Sid Meier games such as OLD Colonization (still have my t-shirt!) and Pirates!)!!!
Pokemon Y is still fun. Might try breeding up a team.Yeah, I liked how many ways you could play The Last of Us, although when you play on Survivor, you pretty much HAVE to sneak as much as possible. (I ignored the existence of the "Grounded" difficulty level ("Supplies are next to non-existent. Listen Mode is disabled. All enemies do triple damage. The HUD is disabled. Enemy AI is extremely sharp; more so than survivor. Multiple mid-combat and mid-stealth checkpoints have been removed."))
Can't connect a 3ds to my university's WiFi, though :(
My roommate is playing The Last of Us for the first time. I think he's new to the stealth thing.
TPS, man. I actually prefer 3rd person, because I can see my character doing stuff. :DTime anomalies? Cool, that's the best I've seen so far about Unity. UGH, I have to start in on AC3 now ...
That's also part of why I went with a PS4. I'm not a big FPS fan, but I do like the runny-jumpy-swingy-happy games that PlayStation likes to put out every now and then, as well as the other stuff like inFamous and super cool stuff like this. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/10/24/ps4-update-lets-you-play-your-friends-games-for-free?watch=true)
Also, AC Unity is doing... this? Link. (http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/10/30/assassins-creed-unity-time-anomaly-trailer) Looks interesting, at least.
Am I the only one who's excited about a new DOOM and Fallout 4?I can't believe they brought back a level editor for Doom. It makes sense given how much Bethesda pushes for mods but that was an exciting announcement for me. Fallout 4 looks very promising but they promised a lot with Oblivion and it just ended in disappointment.
Also, I don't know if any of you saw EA's E3 conference, but most of it was horrendous, apart from this super-cool (and obviously very scripted) Battlefront video:EA and Ubisoft are masters of the E3 fumble, at least one of them looks terrible at every E3.Spoiler: show
It's time. I've just bought Dark Souls.
Tomorrow: Dark Souls 2. Then: the world.
I'm spending so much money this week. :'(
Also, old, but it always makes me laugh at this time of year.Spoiler: show

Has anyone played the Multiplayer in Firaxis XCOM games? I just watched some youtube footage of it, and it looks sort of fun.
Yeah. It's fun, but not good for you if you are competitive and have a low tolerance for nonsense game mechanics (like snipers shooting through walls and gunners refusing to target enemies in plain sight).
I don't know if anyone's been keeping up with No Man's Sky BTW, but I don't think I've been this excited about a game since the Wind Waker. Like...I have a No Man's Sky desktop, mixed in with ones for Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Journey, and Flower. It's a pretty exciting thing! :D
Scaaaale, maaaaan.

Ooh! Eich! Where've you *been*?I've been... playing Dark Souls and The Wolf Among Us, and soon will be playing The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
And my god, if No Man's Sky doesn't live up to the expectations, the devs will never be able to live it down.
But I really, really hope it will.

I've been playing Fantasy Life for a few days now- and of course had to make a Sigrun player almost immediately- and it's surprisingly fun and relaxing.Sims 3 is super addictive! When I first started it was all about making my OCs and having them do things, but now I almost exclusively mess around with houses...
Although my longest-standing addiction has been the Sims 3. Thank god it worked on my computer, all the realistic houses...*_* I live vicariously through that game.*Sniff* I want a twenty bedroom countryside manor, too....

I've wanted Fantasy Life for a long time, sadly it never goes down in price :( Everyone tells me it's super good though, and it does look adorable!
That would be TotalBiscuit.Yep, that's right. Going (sort of) off-topic now ;D :
Yep, that's right. Going (sort of) off-topic now ;D :
I find it funny how they're both hiding behind cliché personalities/demeanours: Angry Joe as the uncouth American, loudmouthed and almost out of control; TotalBiscuit oh so stiff-upper-lippy, ironical, I'd say bordering on sarcastic.
I wonder how I'd have regarded them a while back. These days, I find it easier to relate to Angry Joe. At least he is communicative. TotalBiscuit hides his potential fanboyishness behind ironies, which means you need to belong to his culture sphere to correctly and accurately decode what he says. I gave up that sort of thing decades ago (although I'm sure I fall off the wagon every now and then), since I feel it gets in the way of communicating. Of course, some intentionally use ironies to exclude those who don't know the code. Or even worse, use irony to be actively nasty to others, and think it's OK, since they're not being openly unpleasant. All of this is truly barbarous, and cowardly non-communicative.
Thus, Angry Joe's (faux?) uncouthness is refreshingly direct to my mind. It does feel a bit contrived, potentially, so who knows if I'll be watching his youtube clips in the future, but today it made me expose you to a bit of a text-wall. Sorry about that. ;)
Despite differences in style TB (or John Bain as he's actually named) and Joe aren't very different. They've both made their mark by being brutally honest compared to games journalism at large (e.g. In relation to the Rome 2 Total War "scandal"). While sites like IGN have shown themselves complacent towards major game franchises TB and Joe are both people one can rely on to always be on the customers' side.Yep, I had a feeling that was the case. Both come across as true fans, but in very different ways. :)
so um... I'm sure some of you know this already but Humble Bundle is offering pay-what-you-want on Borderlands 1 and 2, and the DLCs... are these games any good? I heard some good stuff but mostly I don't know enough to spend money?
So.... should I get in on this? I don't play that much FPS stuff; Mass Effect 2 was pretty good though, that's about the only shooter rpg I've played to any significant length.

Hey guys! As some of you know, we have a Steam group which until now didn't really do all that much. Eich and Fimbulvarg and myself have been playing Terraria, but we've had to do a rather complicated set-up that involved faking internet connections and whatnot
BUT!
That's all about to change.
Terraria released version 1.3 yesterday which, (finally) involves multiplayer steam support.
Which means we can all play together much easier now.
(There's also a bunch of other cool updates, full list is here (http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/1-3-changelog.20617/)for anyone interested)
So, Steam-havers and PC gamer people - does this seem like a good idea? Does anyone want to join?

I prefer Starbound over Terraria. Recently bought Terraria and didn't like it so I got issued a refund. Oh well! From what I've been told, most of the recent update to Terraria was heavily influenced by Starbound :) for what it's worth. I'd still like to try Starbound, just to see what it's like, but for now, Terraria is where its' at for me (since, you know, I already own it)
I've found myself playing The Sims 3 for no clear reason whatsoever. I've decided to make the main heroes of SSSS, using various panels from the comic as reference material.Spoiler: So far, Lalli, Emil and Tuuri are ready show
I'll make Sigrun or Mikkel next. I don't know what I'll do with them, but I think I'll test the Awesomemod's story progression fixes by placing them somewhere and then playing as someone else for a prolonged period of time.
Wow, they look great! :D And the outfits came out really well, too. I had so much trouble with mine because nothing seemed to fit.Their outfits and hair styles are a mismatch of content from various expansion packs and DLCs. I also used Create-a-Style to tweak the colours of various outfits.
Ok, one definite downside to the whole convention going was that all the NCC teams were given one big room to sleep in on air mattresses, with ac that you couldn't set yourself and very thin blankets... add one person with a cold and you have the whole team Iceland ill today. Welp, since the day was going down the drain and I had been keeping myself away from Bayonetta that I got earlier this year, saving it as an after-convention treat, it was obviously time to start on it.
...it's quite a ride. The angels you're fighting are terrifying and pretty hard to kill, and you get started on the massive ones right from the start. And there's so many of them! No warnings for where the next boss battle will be suddenly sprung on your face - like you know, usually in a game you start noticing little signs like a suspicious amount of health and energy fixing items, a large room appearing, a whole LOT of bass in the music all of a sudden. Bayonetta gives no warnings, you'll be happily jogging your way through a town when plop, BOSS BATTLE, no wait, haha, you thought that gigantic monstrosity you just killed was the boss? THIS IS THE REAL BOSS. LOOMING BEHIND THIS BUILDING HERE. Have fun.
In fact it is the most fun I've had with a game for a while, although if you sat in the same room with me playing it it would probably be a bit hard to tell among all the flailing around with the controller and bad language, which takes me to my only whine: you have to time certain actions so precisely to succeed that they're very hard to get right. Took me ages and a few rage quits to cross one bridge (my rage quits last for about five min and then I'll angrily return to try again until the next one) to name one example. All in all A+++ game experience so far and good thing I saved it until after con because it eats away several hours in a blink of an eye.
I think Bayonetta is often unfairly dismissed based on the concept. I for one dismissed it when it was announced as some cheap quicktime-event Japanese fetishist game. And then, when it came out, it was surprisingly critically acclaimed. The sequel got even higher ratings. So I guess the game isn't so much a game for the Japanese otaku audience as one would think.
Maybe you found some inspiration for the next NCC. You're basically a pleather-svenne (or whatever the term for journeyman is in Icelandic) now after all, and bayonetta is nothing but pleather. It's not that different from flemeth and there's plenty of jewelry to be made. (http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/kuw3jjearzcsgehad9us.jpg)
NO FIMBY NONONO this is exactly the kind of thing you should not tell me when I'm really enjoying a game/anime/manga/webcomic/whatever! D:I know. You don't get the Enabler of the Year Award unless you know a thing or two about pushing the right buttons and dropping the right suggestions on the table.
I'm fairly long-legged and I can at best knee myself in the throat.
... was anyone else aware that there's going to be a Mad Max videogame? An open-world videogame that's releasing in one month? Because I didn't know that. And it looks like it could be amazing.I've heard a little bit about it and seen screenshots, but I think it's on XBoxOne/PS4 only? Kind of ignored it since I don't have either of those consoles

Yeah, I heard. It's pretty rare for movie games to be successful, so I'm not expecting much from it.

It's pretty rare for movie games to be successful, so I'm not expecting much from it.There's also the fact that none of the awesome characters (who arguably made the film successful) like Furiosa or the Many Mothers will be in this game, which really knocks down the interest value for me.

Well, I guess that's a question of taste. It is not Fury Road:The Game.Except it kind of is...? like, the war boys are in it. And the main villain is supposed to be another one of Immortan Joe's sons? So it obviously takes place in that continuity. Just... sans Furiosa.

Yes, it's definitely in the Maxverse. But from what I've heard those War Boys are not Immortan Joe's army, but rather his son's. Presumably it's meant to be some kind of sequel set after Max leaves Furiosa and the Wives. Fury Road (Furiosa which was its original title) itself is intended as the first of a trilogy. So the intentions of the game is probably to place itself in the newer Mad Max trilogy timeframe without being a direct video game translation of Fury Road/Furiosa. Maybe it leads up to the next movie, Mad Max: Wasteland in some way.
Helloooo fellow Supergiant fan! (Talks about Transistor for years) And, uh, looking at the rest of your list, are you me? Only a few of these have I yet to play...I might be you... or you might be me? We'll probably never know for sure. Anyway, you have awesome taste in vidja games. And yes, pc skyrim is best skyrim, as made plain by the awesome photography! A while ago I heard whispers of a super-ultra-huge mod adding a whole new campaign in an underground civilization of mole people. But that was so long ago they may have given it up so they could start making sacrifices for Fallout 4.
Also, Skyrim. Only on PC though, mods make the game. I actually recently saw somebody playing it on the Xbox, and I didn't even realize it was the same game at fist because the graphics and menu and combat were all different, hehe...
Speaking of Skyrim, I recently went ahead and did a little photography binge, here's some highlights... (huge, so they're under a spoiler)Spoiler: show

I... haven't played Bastion fully yet...
*Bwaah of betrayal*
But I have played Transistor!

You should try Transistor! Also by Supergiant, positively the best thing that ever was gifted to me, I also cried, I want a sequel, a spinoff, something, aaargh that company is the best ever.
Also! All their songs, from both games, are on Spotify. Yooo. I listen to the soundtracks of both on a regular basis.
I... haven't played Bastion fully yet...listen im not mad im just disappointed /hit
*Bwaah of betrayal*
But I have played Transistor!

Hey everyone, we've got a starbound server now!
So I recently took part in the Star wars Battlefront Beta, and I was... pleasantly surprised! It feels like Star Wars, it feels like Battlefront, it does not feel like Battlefield. Also, it runs the highest graphical settings on my not-so-next-gen computer. I'm a fan, and will probably buy the full game once it comes out and when I have more than a dollar to my name.
Also, I recently started a new character in Borderlands 2... I'd forgotten how much I love that game, especially the writing. It's a crazy, crazy world, and I just love it all.
Quick question for video game aficionados!I'd always recommend you play Portal, because it's short and sweet (and hilarious) and pretty cheap on Steam. But no, you don't actually need to play it to enjoy Portal 2. You might not get a few of the jokes and the backstory, is all.
In psychology today we played a bit of Portal 2 (in order to learn about teamwork and problem solving) and now I really want the game. But should I start with the first Portal game? Or does it not matter?
This is, what, the second time I've performed mild necromancy on this thread?
Ah, whatever.

Now if only they'd bring out another Republic Commando game...
You might not get a few of the jokes and the backstory, is all.
"I wonder what the weather 's like on Kamino right now"."Get yourself some bacta, soldier!"
It's not as if the backstory is particularly complex or anything though, right? I've only played Portal 2 and I think I understand the basic premise. To be honest the vast majority of the basckstory was added in by Portal 2 anyway. About the only thing that I can think of that might potentially confuse someone who's only played Portal 2 is why GLaDOS hates you and who Aperture Science are, but both of those are pretty quickly and succinctly explained. I'd still reccommend Portal, though, if only because it's a wonderfully fun little game!
All right, I think I'll try Portal first, if only because it's short enough that I won't get too hopelessly entangled in it. And I can always get Portal 2 later if I really like it. Thank you!Portal's brilliant, I'd certainly recommend both.
What did you guys think of the heroes though? They felt a bit clunky to me, though I didn't get to use them much.
Also, spawn points need work, especially in Drop Zone.

Lately I have been playing The Long Dark, (http://hinterlandgames.com (http://hinterlandgames.com)) a survival game set in northern Canada. You play as a bush pilot who crashed during a geomagnetic storm caused by a solar flare, and you have to survive a long, cold winter. The landscapes are stunning, The wolves and bears terrifying, and the world immense. They have a good update schedule, with 1 major game update every month. You can fish, hunt, deconstruct, and die in many ways. Currently it is quite lonely but they are planning on adding NPCs soon. I can highly recommend it.

In light of the overwhelming set of opinions in favor of it, I have decided to buy and play PortalPortal is amazing! The story itself is quite short, you can beat it in about an hour and a half if you rush through all the puzzles, but the writing is really really good. The best part, aside from GLADoS, is that feeling you get after you've been struggling with a puzzle for a while and then suddenly it just HITS you <3like there was going to be any other outcome to this :PI'll let you all know how it goes! The cake is a lie...
I don't play a lot of vidya games becausei'm kind of bad at themi'm too busy drawingreasons, but everything around me started turning into Undertale so i caved in and started playing Undertale. I haven't even finished a single run yet but it's really really great and funny and also kind of terrifying. i love it
I have a hunch many of you would really like Psychonauts (http://store.steampowered.com/app/3830) if you tried it.I love that game! I never beat it because that last level is just, absolutely impossible -- but I really enjoyed playing it :D
It's pretty fun, some clever original ideas viz other RPGs.
When I say at the very beginning of the game, I mean the very beginning. I had barely started up the game for the first time, and my parents came down right as the queen got stabbed in the gut. Blood everywhere, of course, and oh gosh could you feel the disapproval emanating from behind me. I'm fairly fine with that kind of thing - don't excessively like it, but don't mind it. But now I don't think I could play without my parents, like, rescinding all access to all computers forever or something :-\Hmm... I must admit I wouldn't have thought that was an overly gory part of the game, but to each their own I guess.
Hmm... I must admit I wouldn't have thought that was an overly gory part of the game, but to each their own I guess.
(You should definitely give it a try when they're not around, though! I think it's a game that deserves a second chance!)
Depends on what people are used to I suppose, but even for me that scene was really upsetting. Not because of the blood and all but because of what happened in it, I really liked the empress from the start...I will confess it took me a while to warm to the empress, as for me she was just another throwaway character killed off in the opening scenes to provide some vague motivation for the player character...
Agreed, I liked the empress! And I didn't think it was overly gory either, but my parents - well, they think the original Star wars movies have "a bit too much violence". Hmm.
But I do think I'll try it sometime! Thanks for reminding me of it. I'll see if I can't play the nights away, since I hardly sleep anyway.
The game has a PEGI M rating you know. Now that I think about it, it seems like a lot of popular games (Dishonored, Bioshock Infinite, Fallout, Batman) have an M rating. Almost as if the publishers have figured out that the rating doesn't really hinder the game sales too much.

For example, the very first game I ever played, back when I was about 15 or 16, was the almost cartoonishly gory (and definitely 18-rated) Fallout 3.

It's basically everything I want in a game.
I know I'm late, but I just picked up Monument Valley for free on ios the other day, and man is it a beautiful game.
If anyone wants to recommend any other classics I've missed out on thanks to my age, feel free! Love a good story-driven game. Not sure if it's quite what you're after but if someone asks me to recommend a game one of the first titles out of my mouth will always be The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It's old and clunky by today's standards but if you give it half a chance it'll suck you into a fantasy world that I still find one of the most fun to explore out of all the games I've played. I lost a whole summer to it! (although by my standards that means less than I wish it did...)

I'm also picking up on the gaming heritage I missed as I was growing up- got Mirror's Edge and Portal for £4 in a Steam sale and finished them both and now I'm working through Bioshock 2 after finishing the first.

If you want almost pure story you could do a lot worse than check out Telltale Games' works. The Walking Dead and The Wolf Amongst Us are two I'd highlight. Pure character and player-driven narrative and some top-notch storytelling!

Anyone here played Eve Online? Or failing that, Magicka? It has hands down the best magic system in any video game I've seen, and developed by Swedes no less.
On a side note, I recently got Crimson Skies working on my PC and its AWESOME! I have a joystick with force feedback too so its really cool. Does anyone else still have the game? I was thinking of trying to get the Multiplayer working...I had a (pirated) version of Crimson Skies lying somewhere on my HDD. I haven't played it for years, though.

I'm considering signing up for Steam. These may be dumb questions, but since I've never played a video game since Myst more than 15 years ago.../>
- Is it all Web-based? Or at least, once I download the Steam client to my laptop, I don't need to buy other equipment, do I?
- Once you buy a game is it yours permanently? Or does it eventually disappear like something off your Netflix request list?
- I have poor hand-eye coordination and I'm squeamish about blood, so that rules out a lot of popular games. But given that games like Undertale exist, and some of the ones you've mentioned in this thread, will I find enough games to entertain myself?
- Or maybe I'm asking the wrong question. If I sign up for Steam, will I ever see the light of day again? I have all this coming week off from work, but I will have to get up and go to the office eventually. (Basically, I want to make sure I don't end up like the people in "Portlandia"...)
Since SectoBoss already covered most of your questions, I'll just add that there are many games that have no blood and don't require superb hand-eye coordination (my reaction time is poor and I'm super jumpy so I don't like first-person action games and can't play games that require quick action). Undertale is lovely, I'm no good at bullet hell style of gameplay but I've been doing well enough so far. I'd also recommend Gone Home (first person exploration with puzzles) and Thomas Was Alone (puzzle platformer, great story, made me cry). They're both short but really good. There are so many other great games, but I'll start with those since I could recommend them to almost anyone.

I'm considering signing up for Steam. These may be dumb questions, but since I've never played a video game since Myst more than 15 years ago...Also, a very important thing - Steam has a refund policy, so if you don't like something, you can get your money back. (http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/)
Okay.Ah yes! I just played through it and it was unexpected and hilarious! There is a Mac version too btw.
If you have Steam, and you have Windows, and you have about half an hour free time, check out Dr.Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist (http://store.steampowered.com/app/409160/).
It is free, involves tigers and grappling hooks and possibly a ghost?, and you will laugh. Totally worth it.
Putting Undertale songs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpHmvEU02vY) on the mp3 player when going for a run is either a really good or a really bad idea, since you'll never feel like stopping even on a chilly day.

Has anybody else here ever played Myst? It's still probably my favorite game.I have! Riven was good too. Never finished either though, I'm terrible at puzzles. :P
I have! Riven was good too. Never finished either though, I'm terrible at puzzles. :PMe too, but I love the worldbuilding and overall atmosphere, plus the fact that there aren't any NPCs to talk to. You have to make sense of everything entirely on your own.
I've been playing Valkyria Chronicles's PC port (http://store.steampowered.com/app/294860/) recently. It looks like a weird child of X-COM, Call of Duty and all Japanese RPGs in existence, but it's surprisingly good. It features such things as:Wow, that looks cool! Speaking of Phoenix Wright, is Ace Attorney any good? I keep hearing about it but have never played.
- Tactical squad member matchmaking;
- The main character talking to a fish in the first 5 minutes of the game;
- Phoenix Wright's school of hand movements during dialogues;
- Standard issue military anime hair... in 1936;
- Standard issue military pimped-out dresses... in 1936;
- Dying from fear of pointy things;
- Androgynous 14 year old sniper taking a tank shell to their baby face... and surviving;
- Magical girl antagonist that escaped from a different anime;
- Concentration camps;
- Genocide;
- Wunderwaffen out of Hideo Kojima's nightmares;
- Actually good tactical combat.
- PC controls that aren't awful... most of the time.
I got Skyrim about a month ago. I am now about knee-deep in addiction, and in the theme I decided to re-write the lyrics of "The Dragonborn Comes", one of the songs that bards can sing when you pay them. (Because frankly I find the base song quite boring) Here is the end result:Ooh, very nice! The only Elder Scrolls game I've played is Oblivion, how do you think Skyrim compares?Spoiler: Lyrics show

I just finished playing Undertale and I'm not ok. Excuse me, I'm going to have to lie down a bit and then spend some time painting a certain red-headed captain who's not Sigrun. Who gave this game a permission to give me all these feelings?!
*coughwouldn'thavetakenyouthislongifyouhadn'tbeenstabbingdefencelessfrogssneeze*
So how about them camping mattresses
Btw a fun anecdote from today, before the tv thing: I was chatting with the others and mentioned my Undyne cosplaying dreams, and randomly said I'd shave my hair off. They almost believed it. Almost. I'm happy people are already somewhat unable to guess how far I'd go for cosplay's sake! ;D
Yeah who would fall for that *Fimbot4200 remembers Laufey saying shaving was out of the question a year ago*
Just popping a recommendation here for a game called Life is Strange. It's an episodic adventure game (from the same studio that made Remember Me if that sells it to anyone) about two teenagers discovering something's seriously amiss in their sleepy Oregon hometown. I think the best way I could describe it is like a cross between Donnie Darko, Twin Peaks and Gravity Falls.Yea LIS was kinda nice but weird. It wasn't a bad game, but the ending felt rushed and left something to be desired.
I don't want to go into too much detail as I think this is a game that is best experienced all but blind, but I will say there's a strong central mechanic based around time travel and the writing and voice acting are both absolutely top-notch (although the plot wavers in places and listening to a French development team trying to write modern American slang can get a bit awkward). I finished it last week and I'm still reeling a little bit from it...

Firewatch, anyone?
Good game! I think my favorite part is about midway through when the air is getting really smoky, making the sky look red. Also, I can imagine a sort of SSSS version, where a lone Cleanser is out in the middle of nowhere with just a radio.
I think I've found my ultimate game obsession. . .MechWarriors Online. If anyone has dreamed of fighting in giant robots this is for you. it's got missiles, lasers, machine guns, and more. someone help me
Instead I think I might feed the obsession. If you love the whole big-bad-ass-bots genre already, you're probably aware of these already. But if not? Then a good place to start with movies and anime are Code Geass, Evangelion, Transformers and Pacific Rim. Those are the biggest franchises I can think of, relating to gigantic robots.
But I'm pretty sure you will have already heard of those.

Hawken. Free and great graphics.
Also, has anyone else fallen into the spare-time consuming black hole that is Enter the Gungeon? Because oh my gosh...
...addictive doesn't even begin to describe it. It's frustrating, exciting, entertaining, and great all at once. It's a bullet hell rougelike with tons of awesome enemies, items, and everything being randomly generated. I haven't had this much fun with a game since Super Mario World, I believe. Holy cow.
Just going to stop by to say that even on the nth playthrough, Dishonored is still probably the best stealth game I've played in ages. Also, for anyone else who plays it, I've found an interesting video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ22nBdeugY) that suggest a couple of playstyles you might not have tried.Dishonored is one of my favorite games and according to Steam I haven't played it since 2013? Wow, it doesn't seem that long but I think it's time for a replay and this video has some excellent ideas for playstyles I haven't tried before. I love how it allows for so many ways to play the game and how every time I replay it I find something new I haven't seen before.
Oh gosh, the puns. I tried playing this 'Enter the Gungeon' but i gave up on the first chamber (after i nearly killed it three times).Oh, yeahhh. lol. Did I mention that it is really filled to the brim with explosions, shooting, and bullets? Because that is very true, lol.
And amount of gun-puns is overwhelming. That it is. I love it so much! More like "Enter the PUNgeon," am I right? Ahahahaaaaah
Also hi. Wanted to write, well, anything on the forums so dropped into this thread.Welcome and hi! :D
I just lost most of the weekend in a game of Civ V. I'm happy to report that the Shoshone are dominating the planet with their Cavalry and Frigates.
Always an amusing contradiction when Civilization games end up like that. By the way, this is slightly off topic, but I'm building a gaming PC... anyone have experience with that kind of thing? Here's the part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BhXznQSeems nice as far as I can tell but you might want to wait at least until after 1st of june to buy a graphics card. AMD is going to be releasing their new GPUs then and they are rumored to be very powerful cards for low prices. So you might be able to get something a lot more power for your money than that GTX 950.

Cool! Do you know what those cards are called? Sounds like the kind of thing that I could really use!AMD haven't said what they are called, but they have announced (http://www.anandtech.com/show/10341/amd-announces-computex-2016-webcast) that they are going to have an event with CPU and GPU news on may 31st/june 1st.
So I have recently been getting into video games. I've played Portal and Portal 2 in the past, then I tried out Half-life, realized I didn't like games where you shoot people, and I've moved on to SOMA, which is really creepy and really interesting so far and hasn't required me to shoot any people. :))
I do have a question though, when I'm playing video games (I play on my computer) I get carsick/motionsick. It's not as bad with the newer ones, but some of them if I play longer than 30 min I am really nauseous. Is there any way to make this go away? Does anyone else find this happens to them? I didn't grow up playing video games. This is kind of my first foray into the world of gaming, so I am pretty new to this.

This is usually only a problem for me when a game has a very low Field of View (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_view_in_video_games) or FOV. The FOV determines how much of the world is shown on the screen and a low FOV can feel like (to me at least) you're looking at the world with horse blinders on, or like you're zoomed in. Some games, like SOMA and Portal, have a setting in the options menu to adjust the FOV and making it larger might help with the motion sickness. SOMA actually has a pretty high FOV by default and if you set it much higher you might start to notice a fish-eye lens effect. I personally don't like that effect but some others might, if I'm adjusting the FOV I ususally bring it up until I start seeing the fish-eye effect and then bring it down a little until it stops bothering me.

Another simple thing to do is just try to sit further away from the monitor and play in a well lit room.
I think I remember that monster and the trick to beating it.
Struggled a bit on that part myself until I realized what its deal was.
It's the one where literally if you look at it, your health suffers.
Ooooh I didn't know that was a thing you could adjust, thanks! I will look into it. SOMA doesn't make me nearly as motion sick as the first Portal did. I don't know if I'm getting used to it or if it's because it's newer or maybe a combination of both.I think I remember that part in SOMA. I got stuck there for a little bit until I kind of accidentally stumbled the correct way. Most annoying part in the game imo.
Right now I'm actually stuck in SOMA trying to run away from a monster and maneuver through a sunken ship... all on a laptop trackpad... ::)I actually made it down the stairs for the first time yesterday

Yes do you want to come to canada and beat that part for me :PHelped my brother-in-law once with a game he was struggling with, somehow beat it on first try. He did not like me for the rest of the day.
Anyone here get the latest Total War games? Attila, and Warhammer IIRC. I'd like to know, because I want to know if they're worth buying, or if I should just abandon the franchise at this point.Got it, got them all actually. I enjoy the franchise and Warhammer runs really well but it is a fantasy game so it depends on what you like. Rome II was a disaster but the games after that have worked fine for me. (I'm playing on a laptop and recommends Radious mods.)
Yes do you want to come to canada and beat that part for me :PIf you keep having troubles then there is a mod someone made for the game that makes the enemies not attack or hurt you. Some say it makes the game better because the monsters are the least interesting part about the game.

Here it is: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=560988617
If you have the game on Steam then you can just log in there and click subscribe and Steam will install it for you. Then you launch the game and choose play with mod.
But you will also have to manually copy the your saved game files into a new location so you don't have to start over.
SOMA's a great game but I have to say it's a tad too short for my liking. It would have been great if it was as long as it was allegedly supposed to be.I disagree about the length. I think SOMA's length is pretty much perfect for a game that's trying to tell a story. If it's much longer the story becomes hard to follow and full of filler that's not interesting.

And I absolutely second the idea of buying a mouse. Get a cheap one, and it's much better than trying to work with a track pad.
It's not cheap, but can I suggest a vertical mouse? It takes a little getting used to, but is SO much better for your wrist, particularly if you have (or don't want!) carpal tunnel issues.
Is anyone else totally stoked about the new LoZ game: Breath of the Wild ?!? I can't stop watching the trailer and gameplay previews they released at E3 ;D
I heard about it earlier and I just watched the trailer and YES! SO MUCH YES! I DONT EVEN HAVE A WII U BUT I WANT ONE NOW JUST SO I CAN PLAY THIS! ;D ;D
Going to have to second that. All the things that I've seen look SO GOOD.Sighhhh same, but the good news is that with the NX coming out soon this means that maybe the price of the Wii U might drop become more affordable ? I'm hoping so because, I need that game
I don't have a Wii U but... uh. When this game is released, I might be tempted. :Va

Ah, yes, I remember playing Animal Crossing quite a lot when I was younger! I can't help you get rid of your stuff, as I think we have different versions (mine is the original gamecube one), but I think a SSSS themed one would be really cool! I remember when I first got the game, I didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing to name the town, and so I just started typing the name of the game into the space. I only got to "Animal C" before I ran out of spaces, though, and that's what my town ended up being named. It was sort of embarrassing at first, but whenever I restarted the game, I kept the name ^-^
And on a different note that fits in this thread, I played Undertale for the first time about a week ago. I may be a little late to the party, but I'm really glad I did! It's my sort of game, and it's killing me trying to decide whether I should reset and do it again or leave them all be.
Odin protect us, the steam summer sale is upon us!
Sooooo has anyone gotten a chance to play Overwatch yet who can say if it lives up to the hype or not ?
Also, just thought I'd mention here that there's a Swedish character in overwatch named Torbjörn
UnReal World, or UrW, is a unique graphical roguelike RPG taking place in the Far North long, long ago. It brings you a realistic game world rich with historical atmosphere in which northern folklore, knowledge and way of life play an important part. The atmosphere and game features are highly original and compelling. The world of the game is based on the ancient Finland in the late Iron Age.
Throughout the years, UnReal World has been praised for its depth, realism, atmosphere and immersion.
Excellent. No reports on the actual quality yet of Overwatch. My gamer cousin became slightly incoherent when he tried to tell me how awesome it was, so I'm guessing that there's at least some substance for the hard-core gamers like my cousin to enjoy? And for the light ones, like my sister, who cries with joy every time she gets a spare hour to sit down and play. That, yeah, I get pretty similar affects from my friends who play it. I'm hoping I can acquire more money soon so I can actually play it and live the hype myself. If not, meh, I can always just play TF2, I heard they're pretty similar in a lot of ways.
Hi everyone,Cool, it sounds worth checking out! Survival games are always fun.
I'd like to recommend Unreal World: http://www.unrealworld.fi/ (http://www.unrealworld.fi/). An old school survival roguelike, by the finnish developer Sami Maaranen. I've been playing videogames for more than 20 years now, and to this day UrW stays on my top five.
And now the circle is complete, as it was on the UrW where I knew of SSSS: http://z3.invisionfree.com/UrW_forum/index.php?showtopic=6619, which hooked me inmediatly.
I know Minna don't read this forum, but I just wanted to share this little story and greet fellow readers.
I am so sorry to double post, especially considering this will be my second post in a row about pokemon BUT POKEMON GO WAS JUST RELEASED IN MY AREA !!!!! I was giggling the entire time I was downloading it then I cried because there was a BULBASAUR in my room ! It was standing on my pile of dirty laundry naturally BUT IT WAS THERE AND ITS MY STARTER WOW. I feel like a small child on Christmas morning ;D
Pokemon Go was released in Canada today.
AaaaAAAAAHH I don't even care that I don't have full capabilities due to playing it on ipod touch, I'm just so glad that this is something that exists in the world.
...I'm probably going to end up with a team full of Drowzees, they're the only thing that reliably comes within my wifi range, pfffffft.
Also the abyss watchers can go die in a fire.
Also the abyss watchers can go die in a fire.I am going to admit I rolled away from them all, occasionally threw a fireball, and just let them fight themselves. Works like a charm.
How about older (early 2000's) games?
Anyone played games like Zeus: Master of Olympus, or maybe Empire Earth? Any love for oldschool strategy/city-building games? v;

I take it back the twin princes are worse than the transition from Aldrich to the Boreal dancer....Are you playing as a sorcerer, pyromancer or maybe a raw melee fighter, if I may ask.
Are you playing as a sorcerer, pyromancer or maybe a raw melee fighter, if I may ask.
I'm running as a pyromancer but focus more on melee.
strength/dex melee build. I got the elder prince down and then the hodor/bran teamup happened and couldn't even dodge as a cluster of pain hit me square in the face.
...probably just gonna take some practice, kinda like dodging the opening teleport attack...
I think Havel's and Black Iron are the best at that.Problem with greatshield is that they are just sooo heavy, especially Havel's shield, but If possible they are the best.
If you need some advice: the fight is considerably easier if you use the dragon crest shield, since that can block most of Lorain's attacks, just watch out for the overhead smashes and watch your stamina.
If you can use those, a great shield with good fire resist is even better, I think Havel's and Black Iron are the best at that.

There is no shame in summoning people for bosses, just saying.
Nuuuuuuu so Pokémon go hasn't been released in Korea yet (except for in one city so I guess I could just visit there ?) and I've been patiently waiting only to find out it might never be released here because the government has some pretty strict policies regarding uncensored map data from overseas which given the situation here is pretty understandable and a valid concern, but still nuuuuuuuu this means it could be months or years before I can do anything Pokémon go related D:
Oh noooo. D: That's such a pain. Understandable, yes, but still.
/patpatpat
At least there's always regular Pokemon? Not the same, I know, but.
I loved the entire Myst series, so I'm kind of waiting for Obduction (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsWHoOKa24E) to come out (should be quite soon, actually).

Cinder is definitely a favorite boss of mine though.... troublesome though. Phase 2 reminds me of the abyss watchers. His second phase is a homage to the final boss of Dark Souls 1, Lord Gwyn. He uses the same sword and moveset, the piano you hear also comes from that final fight.
Hey guys Obduction is out! The reviews on Steam seem very positive.Though it looks like I'll need a new graphics card if I want to get the best results. Ghaaaa.......

Someone in the chat requested a screenshot of my SSSS-themed civilization game a long long time ago. And so, here it is:I am waaay late to reply to this post, but I thought I should point out that "Mikkeli" is an actual city. It is the Finnish name for a city in Finland which I believe is known as St. Michel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikkeli) in English.
Out of curiosity, anyone else here heard of the upcoming game Witchmarsh?

I thought I should point out that "Mikkeli" is an actual city.Actually, the Mikkeli train station (https://www.google.de/maps/@61.6887459,27.2778723,3a,75y,130.8h,86.62t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1snKkencCSFyQAxFKkhl8dMA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1) does appear in the prologue (http://www.sssscomic.com/comic.php?page=24).
This webcomic convinced me to pick up Skyrim again... this must be the fifth time I've resumed playing that game.
I installed a bunch of mods altering combat and now die regularly to enemies instead of every once in a while.
Perfect. Does anyone know what the Remastered Edition's requirements will be? I want to know if I should install the upgrade right when it comes out, or wait for a computer that won't be turned into a toaster by it.
Did you just say Skyrim because that game is my life
Well no, I didn't just say Skyrim, I said it a week ago. I still haven't beaten it yet because I keep getting distracted by other things about halfway through :V

I bought the Dawnguard DLC on the summer sale so I've been neglecting the main questline to slay vampires instead ::)
So, Overwatch (https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/) is free for the weekend. Just spent a few hours playing with my friends - tons of fun! I think my favourite character is Ana.I was trying to play it, only it's hard to play with my trackpad and the one mouse I could likely use is broken. :-\ Hoping I can figure something out, though, because it sounds really fun and most of my friends are really into it.

The Steam Winter Sale started today!! I got INSIDE (sequel to LIMBO), Antichamber, and Life is Strange. I spent most of the evening playing Life Is Strange, so now I'm pretty much finished chapter 1. Amazing game! And I got all 5 chapters for only $5 thanks to the sale. I love the art style and the music and the storyline and WOW ;D

HAIL GABEN.
Also I've been playing David Cage and he sucks s*** through a silly straw. Good lord Heavy Rain is a meme game.
>TFW you will never get to experience the masterful chase scene again.
Your pain is but a failure of player design.Holy shit dude. I can't even with this game. I've never laughed so hard in my whole life. I've been sitting here baffled at how Sony can duck up so badly.

I had not, but looking it up, it looks like it is right up my alley.
It looks like Journey, but underwater.
It reminds me, in a way, of 20 000 leagues under the sea, minus the submarine and vengeful captain.
I just finished Valiant Hearts: The Great War. I am emotionally devastated. I knew what was coming (thanks, friends, for spoiling it for me) but still just totally taken aback.

If anyone has not bought resident evil VII I'd highly recommend it.
Got Fallout New Vegas. Modded it. Currently trying to get all the companions together for a Deathclaw hunt at Quarry Junction.Deathclaw hunt?? You're a madman!

Let me reiterate- ALL the companions. Mods. This sounds amazing and makes me wish I had it on PC instead of console.
So, the Deathclaws are being attacked by, in no particular order:
-An NCR elite sniper with Ranger gear and an AM rifle
-A ghoul vaquero with absurdly powerful handguns
-A schizophrenic Super Mutant with a BFS
-A robe-wearing lesbian with a gauntlet that fires electrical bursts on contact
-An Enclave eyebot that provides theme music and lasers
-A former Enclave member with plasma tech
-A robo-dog
-An alcoholic caravan leader with an automatic shotgun
-And the motherf***ing Courier, who has pretty much obliterated the Legion West of the River, ditto the Powder Gangers, and the Fiends.
This sounds amazing and makes me wish I had it on PC instead of console.Just think about the amount of loot they can carry afterwards too :'D

I'm now very close to maxing out achievements on Year Walk! I have one more left; do a full playthrough on New Year's Eve... I'll have to wait about a year for that one.I admire your dedication but can't you just set your computer clock to New Year's Eve?
I admire your dedication but can't you just set your computer clock to New Year's Eve?
Might save you some waiting ;)
The only games I've actually strived to get 100% achievements on are the 3 dark souls games on pc.
I imagine 100% achievements on dark souls would be difficult, to say the least. How long did that take you? :oIt's more time consuming than difficult. The achievements are pretty simple like collecting all spells, special weapons/armor, rings(ds3 had 107, needing to go ng++ for) and such, nothing that requires any luck but you do need to beat the games 2-3 times though to get all endings and items.
Playtime (including dlc's that's not needed for achievements) is from game 1-3: 150h, 210h, 200h :'D
Better than me on SpaceChem, where I currently have a playtime of 291h and still not even close to completing the custom levels.Ahem, well you haven't seen my hours in Team Fortress 2 ::)

The first two acts of The Long Dark's story mode were released today! :DI remember it being First Person. Is that still the case?
I'm about 2 chapters into act one now, it's awesome so far.
I remember it being First Person. Is that still the case?
I just played the first episode of "Life is Strange: Before the Storm", and now I can with certainty say that it’s sooo nice to be back in Arcadia Bay.
It still has the same charm to it that made the original game so good, and you just still want to go around and talk to everyone to hear all the dialog options. Most importantly Chloe very much feels like a younger version of the same Chloe we met in episode one of Life is Strange, despite the new voice actor (who is doing a fine job).
So in short, I really loved the first Life is Strange and Before the Storm also seems really really good (so far) and a worthy extension of the series, can’t wait to play the next episode.
Is the episode as long as episodes of Life is Strange ? (I will wait for the full release anyway, I can't stand suspens hahaha).Yes, even though Before the Storm itself will be two episodes shorter than the original the episodes still feel just as long (and good) as the ones in the original.
Started playing 'Prey'. It's a sci-fi horror that involves aliens that can disguise themselves as common household objects.... so the winning move to thwart the alien invasion is to have everyone grab a backpack and tent and go on an extended camping trip until the aliens all starved? >:D

Okay, two things-
One, I didn't know it was possible to cry at a Fallout game, but the stories of the Survivalist from Honest Hearts made me anyway.
Second, Company of Heroes 2 is amazing and I loaded a halftrack with panzerschreck infantry and flamethrower engineers for tank-busting, infantry-burning action.
I am not really someone playing video games, but one of my friends is creating one, and maybe that it could interest some of you ? (It's a Kickstarter, I'm not sure if I can or not post something like that here...)

It looks cool! I’ll have to try installing the demo, see if it works. I’ll let you know what I think! :)
Also, steam is doing a big Halloween sale! So I got the Amnesia collection, Kholat, Layers of Fear, Oxenfree, and SOMA. Now I just have to find time to play them all.....

Recently I played Observer which is by the Layers of Fear people. It was pretty good! It's a dystopian future murder mystery. I recommend having a strong stomach for that one tho. It gets gorey.
I don't even know what Kojima is anymore. I've lost the ability to comprehend.I'm not sure whether I should be afraid or excited for a Kojima with creative freedom.

I finished Hyper Light Drifter. That was pretty neat.
how did you like it? i played it last year. pretty brutal. i think there was one part with moving walls that could smash you... i definitely burned like 5 hours just in that 1 single room...
not to mention the hours spent figuring out the timing for the bosses, the frog guy wasn't too bad, but the other bosses... just insane
I got a switch this weekend and I've been glued to mario odessey ever since XD
Doing a run out to colonia in elite dangerous and filming the progress, here's the first three parts. The links doesn't seems to work, they all send me to where my own videos would be...
If I could get some feedback on my videos it would be appreciated, I want to know which works better, a bit of commentary at the start and then the super-speed bit condensing the flight, or the second video where I did commentary at the start, some super speed stuff, and then a bit more commentary when I reached the white dwarf before going back to super-speed.
Part 1 (https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=K85zXjb31YU)

Try them now.Yep it works.
Yep it works.
It's not a game for me so I can't really say much about it but I do know that you still need to raise the volume on your voice since it's still a bit too low, as for the music it started out being too loud but you fixed that in the later parts.
Did it really take 6 hrs of real time to get there???
If anyone has Fallout New Vegas I can't recommend the following mods enough:
New Vegas Bounties
Russel
The North Road
The Initiation
Blood by the Dollar
The Better Angels
The REPCONN Blues
Fallout 76 is going to be interesting, to say the least.
Currently waiting on Fallout 4:NV, a good weapons mod is millenia's texture mods however I mainly use the m39 emr from this mod

In other news for solokov's gaming career;
- bought and am playing through Prey... Recycled myself on accident within a minute of getting the recycler grenades, I plan to stack and recycle all the thingas in the ballistics lab later today
- Got aotc Argus in world of Warcrack on tuesday
- found the upper limit of Skyrim mods my computer can handle and not ctd every five minutes, it's in the ~166 number range... Although I've added another 8gb of ram since then so that number may have changed since then
- also ordered a Sapphire Nitro+ rx580 8gb GPU yesterday when Newegg had it down to 278$... Gorram miners, but now I can shelve my rx450.
Haven't seen your avatar in a while, always thought it very cool!
I've recently started playing the Rusty Lake (http://www.rustylake.com) game series. They're a bunch of escape room like apps and longer point and click desktop games. The art is good and each game goes further into the creepy, mysterious world. It's really quite dark at times, but I think people who like SSSS will like it. It's definetly in the sci-fi, horror, fantasy category.I've heard about this series before, and I've looked a bit into Rusty Lake Hotel. There's temptations to look into the series but something about them makes me scared to look in, and it's not just the mosquito thing I remember seeing in the trailer to Rusty Lake Paradise. Perhaps one of these days I should dedicate a day to diving in and seeing what I become on the other end.
Horizon Zero Dawn is much the opposite of what you described Ran :) There the one and only character, you get skill points which you may distribute on a skill tree, but the skills are rather general. I play on the Story mode setting as I cannot fight (I keep frantically hitting the melee controls in the hope she hits, and in story mode she does) but it has several more difficult modes too :)And that's great as well. Not everything needs to be for everyone, right?
God i love Horizon Zero Dawn. They could've just said "robot dinosaurs" and left it at that and it would already be a 9/10 game. But then they had to add in GORGEOUS visuals, a sassy badass female protagonist who's voiced by my favorite VA (Ashly Burch), fun and engaging combat and a surprisingly deep and nuanced story with cool post-apocalyptic worldbuilding. So so so rad.
It's been a few years since I played and beat it, but it's the reason I got a PS4 and still one of my favorite games for that system. Talking about it now is making me remember there's a DLC I haven't played yet, perhaps I should do that or try the New Game+ at least.
There's even HZD content in Monster Hunter World for PS4, which is fun :D (and also probably the game I've spent the most cumulative hours over the past year, lol).
It takes place in yellowstone national parkIsn't that a spoiler?
That's a really nice helmet. How well does it protect against COVID-19, though? :P
If you have questions, go ahead. If you feel insulted by my opinion on TES, by all means, come at me. I'm ready to argue.
Being a TES fan (sort of), I can confirm that the series isn't really of high quality in terms of execution. However, a lot of people including me love it mostly for its lore and canon ambiguity. Everything is subjective from the start, so you can find lots of interesting interpretations of books, dialogues and game events and consider them all canon. Take The 36 Lessons of Vivec, for example. Was it written by Vivec himself? What in his sermons is true and what is propaganda? Did he actually achieve CHIM? All we can do is guess, and I think it's great. But unmodded Skyrim is garbage, yes.Well, I haven't actually played Gothic 3 with the community patch, which supposedly turns it into a decent game (as opposed to the buggy, broken mess it used to be), but in general, the game actually feels a lot like TES to me - a massive world with a lot of content, but very little of it is actually meaningful. Also, the combat system is pathetic and the world is pretty inconsistent with previously established lore. It's playable, but nowhere near the level of its predecessors.
Now, regarding the actual topic: I've seen many favorable reviews both in Russian and English and I think your post finally convinced me to try Gothic out! With the expansion, of course ;). But why didn't you mention Gothic 3? I know it's very different from the first two games, but is it that terrible? Also, what do you think of the remake so far?
If you really intend to jump straight into the Night of the Raven, a word of advice: be sure to practice the controls a bit before leaving the tower and getting into a fight. Also, save often - the main character starts as a pushover and, in the NotR, remains a pushover for a pretty long time.Noted!
As a side note - in Gothic 2, there's a certain NPC in the town who, if left alone, recites a creation myth to people gathered before him. If you care to listen to it in full, it can be interpreted as related to the main plot of the series in a few different ways - or not at all. It can be pretty fascinating for people interested in such things.
My contact with Dark Messiah was long ago and very brief. I don't remember the exact reasons for that, but it might have had something to do with the fact that plotwise, it's a sequel to Heroes of Might and Magic V, which I have a very low opinion on (it's my least favorite game in the series by far, and one of my least favorite games in general). I might return to it someday, though. Maybe I'll be able to ignore the plot for long enough to actually finish it.
The other thing I wanted to say is that I really appreciate your choice of review. I love MandaloreGaming. He always goes out of his way to find some positives even in the crappiest games *cough*Fire Warrior*cough*, but also doesn't hesitate to criticize the aspects that are genuinely bad.
The plot of Dark Messiah is not very original, but worked fine enough to me. I never played "Heroes..." (lucky me, it seems) so my approach to the game wasn't affected by it, however it never feels like "a part of something bigger that you should know to understand the plot".I'll make sure to give it a try, thanks! Meanwhile, if you'd like to know the plot of Heroes V (not necessarily worth knowing, but...), then I recommend this blog (http://heroesinanutshell.blogspot.com/) for a relatively non-painful experience and laughs.
It's a fun game, well worth your time. Just a little demanding, sometimes, in terms of fast finger coordination... :)
Anyone want to talk Fire Emblem with me? No takers? OK.I'd love to talk Fire Emblem with you, but alas, I've never played it, so...
Auxivele, I also would like to, but I never played any of the games you mentioned.
Oh which ones have you played? There are a bunch of games that I played on friends' consoles but never finished, so I'm taking advantage of being stuck inside to do just that. Unfortunately I've never played the games you've mentioned, but looking them up did remind me that I have several partially completed games of Civ V to finish. Eventually. It would be a looong list. I'm almost 50, so I've been around since things like Atari consoles, and I remember playing things like Prince of Persia, Doom and Wolfenstein 3D on MSDOS machines... :)
Hello! Wanted to introduce myself by saying that I am finally playing Halo, because everything is plague narratives for me at the moment!Hello Shep (it's shep that you used, right? If you prefer the full user name please tell. BTW you can call me just Grey, it's easier to type :) )

Also, check out the prototype of the game's building mechanics here (http://oskarstalberg.com/game/house/index.html)!

OH I love persona 5/5r! I actually lived pretty close to the new playable area that they introduced in P5r, Kichijoji?
Sorry if you answered this before but do you not have PC? P4g is on steam these days, but it certainly can be kind of weird going from 5 to 4 since the graphics and playing style are a bit different.
this year i played through persona 5 three times: once on vanilla (bought it shortly before royal came out and shortly before COVID lockdown began), then once on royal... and again on royal NG+. so... yea. i loved p5. it's climbed quickly to one of my top games of all time.
i played through p4g as well recently -- i actually bought a vita to play it, shortly before it came out on steam. but i played it in japanese so it was worth it anyway. also an excellent game.
currently playing through p3 FES (also in japanese) but i think i'm a bit burnt out on persona so i'm taking it slow. there are some quality of life improvements in p4 and p5 that i really miss. but i've heard the story is really good.
btw that's cool you lived near kichijoji! are you native japanese or expat? i keep thinking i'd love to find a job opportunity to live in japan for a couple years while i'm still young(ish)!
(yes, for the Sinclair ZX81, yes, you had to load it from a cassette tape, yes, I'm that old :) )
Oh yes! That was so "fun"! Particularly when after several minutes loading something went wrong and you had to start again...Spoiler: show
Can someone explain Persona series to me? Persona 5 in particular?I've only played 4 unfortunately, and I haven't completely finished it. But the Persona series is a half-school life simulator, half-dungeon crawler JRPG which heavily borrows from Jungian psychology. The idea is that repressed parts of the psyche manifest as Shadows, but certain people have these manifestations of their psyche called Personas which they can control to fight Shadows and stop them from negatively affecting the physical world. I'm not that great at explaining it, but this Extra Credits video might help you:
