When I told people I was writing a novel for fun, the most common reaction was: "But you should be writing your thesis!" As if I had forgotten about that or decided I didn't need a masters degree anymore now that I am to become a famous author.  ::)

I promised to myself I'll catch up with the desired word count on Sunday, because I'll be alone at home all day. Perfect conditions for word sprints all day.  8)

So, what is your total word count? Mine is currently sitting at... 29.700 according to NaNo, 29.600 according to Scrivener.  I choose to believe NaNo.

9221 (or 9121) words behind you. :'(

The word count thing is weird, though. Usually when I use different programs the difference is within 10-20 words, but a hundred word difference? Do you use a lot of hyphenated words or something?

Not really. I do use a lot of words with apostrophes, though. And maybe in the total novel I could have used about fifty or sixty hypenated words. Oh, and the main technique I use to boost the word count is not using abbreviations. Now every character talks like Data in Star Trek TNG, and can not use abbreviations. It works.
