"Boustrophedon on the New Layout"

What to say on revamped layout?
And how can mere words tell it true?
Images of startling beauty
Especially of the bridge
Make me wish that I could draw too
And rue my clumsy hands anew
And more goodies for the first book
A runo unroll'd for our eyes
Boy, I'm glad I bought a copy
So also will my sister be
But the shade of white as background
Like white of snow upon the field
Quickly starts to hurt my eyeballs
A burning brightness hard to bear
Maybe slightly off-white's better
A softer white, a gentler white
Don't want readers to go snow blind
It's still a gorgeous redesign

“Lalli With the Moon in His Hands”
from ”Elmo [Kiko] and the Lavender Moon” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhzh2LHPzOo
by Los Lobos

Lalli with the Moon in his hands
Just sitting watching her
As neat as you please

As he looks on
A runo forms
A plea for her
To calm the storm

He sits and waits
Still praying in his
Runo of need

Lalli with the Moon in his hands
Examining his silver prize
Just like a cat

She shines at him
As he looks on
She seems to grin
And he waits for dawn

Man and Moon
As ageless as
The glittering stars

She watches him
As he scouts at night
She protects him
With her silver light

And as he runs
She follows him
Together they
Will sink or swim

Lalli with the Moon in his hands
Forgetful of the men
Who walked her face

She shelter’d them oh
So long ago
And for their sake
She heeds his plea

She keeps him safe
Lalli with the Moon in his hands

“Dream Runner”
from “Dream Lover” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVHAQX5sSaU
by Bobby Darin

Usually I’m here to chat
With my cousin, Fraidy-Cat
But the last time I was here
I saw a runner oh so clear
And now I want
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
This guy
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
Who runs
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find the Dream Runner
To see what he has going on

Dream Runner, I’ll find you
And you’ll tell me the truth
What you’re doing way out here
Because I know you’re somewhere near
And now I want
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
This guy
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
Who runs
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find the Dream Runner
To see what he has going on

Seems he’s the bashful kind
But he can’t hide from me
I’ll see him in my mind
And together we’ll be

Dream Runner come and chat
We can sit down and chew the fat
Maybe I can help you out
So just give me a name to shout
And now I want
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
This guy
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
Who runs
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find the Dream Runner
To see what he has going on

Dream Runner come and chat
We can sit down and chew the fat
Maybe I can help you out
So just give me a name to shout
And now I want
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
This guy
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
Who runs
(Yeah-yeah, yeah)
To find the Dream Runner
To see what he has going on

I know something’s going on
I’m gonna find out what’s going on
Just tell me now what’s going on

THE MAN WHO HIRED EMIL VÄSTERSTRÖM

When Emil Västerström came to town
The books would run and hide, they'd hide
When Emil Västerström walked around
The crew would cringe inside

'Cause The Way of the Derp was the only thing
That Västerström understood
When it came to breaking rear-view mirrors
He was mighty good

From out of the east there came a cat
Who walked upon two legs, a mage
The kind of a mage the crew would need
To scout and keep them safe

Finnish and cat were the only tongues
This skinny mage understood
When it came to sensing trolls and cookies
He was mighty good

Many a book would face his wrath
And many a book would fall
The man who hired Emil Västerström
He hired Emil Västerström
He was the derpest of them all

They got a captain from the north
A head above the rest, most best
A captain eager to grab the books
And put the trolls to rest

And the point of a blade
Was the only law that Sigrun understood
When it came to slicing trolls and giants
She was mighty good

Alone and afraid did Emil go
In hall as black as night, ah, step light
Just looking for golf books he could grab
And duck a grossling fight

From the moment you enter the Silent World
The very first thing you learn
If you split your team and walk away
Maybe none return

Everyone heard two screams ring out
Before he fired the hall
The man who hired Emil Västerström
He hired Emil Västerström
He was the derpest of them all

The man who hired Emil Västerström
He hired Emil Västerström
He was the derpest of them all

Dashing Looks

Into a dark hole the cat sneaks a peek.
All alone and secluded, abandoned perhaps
In the sewers of these, or some kind of creek.
Maybe survived from this society's collapse.

The cat is taking a kitty out by the scruff,
Is there a litter? Yes, by the sounds.
The landscape is calm, although it's quite rough.
The cat over and around the wreckage it bounds.

What does it see with its curious eye?
Nothing too horrible found there, I hope.
This mystery something, revelation of which is nigh.
If something bad happens, I don't think I'd cope.

-----------------------------------------------

Eye of the Cat (based on Year of the Cat by Al Stewart)

On a morning from a horror movie
In a country where they turn back time
She goes strolling through the wreck like a lion
Contemplating the climb

She comes out of the hole with a kitten running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She can't tell you what's her game

In the eye of the cat

She doesn't give you time for questions
As she stalks the sound in her ears
And you follow till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears

By the pale blue stream near the sewer grates
There's a hidden nest she reached into
At day, she looks around and bounds
Just like a tiger passing through

The eye of the cat

Why she seeks for it so coolly?
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes out unconcerned now truly
So we watch her, to find what's waiting outside

The eye of the cat

Well morning comes and we still spy her
And the car's old occupants are gone
And it's thrown away its voice and lost its reason
So we have to watch on

But the silent strains of the day remain
In the latter of the new-born day
You know sometime it's bound to catch her
But for now it's going to stay

In the eye of the cat
Eye of the cat

“Alive in Kastrup”
from “One Night in Bangkok”
by Murray Head

Alive in Kastrup
Means you’re rough and tumble
Only the fastest
Can survive this place
Alive in Kastrup
And she will not crumble
Her kittens count on her
To be the Ace
Ev’ry day she stares
Disaster in the face

Kastrup
Copenhagen’s suburb
And to live here is tough
When it used to be superb
For one momma cat
And her kittens Moving
Day has come for them
As behooving

This cat’s
Gonna keep her litter
From becoming Grossling chow
Like the birdies that twitter

It’s time
One by one she brings them
Out from their old place
To a new spot they will soon come

(Spoken)
Where Vaette
Nor giants
Nor beast nor troll
Can find them

(Sung)
Alive in Kastrup
And she won’t give up now
Life may be hard
But it’s still good you see
Alive in Kastrup
And they won’t be troll chow
In spite of danger
Ev’rywhere she’ll see
She will keep her kittens
Safe while she is free

This place
Demands all your focus
If you’re going to
Stay alive in this locus

Sometimes out
By the shore
Then deeper in the city
There have been
So many homes
For this worried
Momma kitty

(Spoken)
Don’t interrupt!
She’ll take each of her
Little complainers down--

(Sung)
To their
New retreat
Safe and away
From their old routine
Tut suite

And how!
Both stealthily and swiftly
She carries them
With moves so nifty

(Spoken)
No stupid beast
Would dare to move
In her groove

(Sung)
Alive in Kastrup
Means you’re rough and tumble
Only the fastest
Can survive this place
Alive in Kastrup
And she will not crumble
Her kittens count on her
To be the Ace
Ev’ry day she stares
Disaster in the face

Felines
Ultimate survivors
In this land that demands
They’ll always be thrivers

(Spoken)
And so far
They’re still ahead of the game
At least one step

(Sung)
Those trolls are
Too slow lately
To match this gracious
Feline lady

So far so good
It’s all or nothing
But it could all sink
Because of one thing

(Spoken)
It’ll take a few trips to
Get all the kittens
With the risk growing

(Sung)
Alive in Kastrup
And she won’t give up now
Life may be hard
But it’s still good you see
Alive in Kastrup
And they won’t be troll chow
In spite of danger
Ev’rywhere she’ll see
She will keep her kittens
Safe while she is free

Alive in Kastrup
Means you’re rough and tumble
Only the fastest
Can survive this place
Alive in Kastrup
And she will not crumble
Her kittens count on her
To be the Ace
Ev’ry day she stares
Disaster in the face

By Mogram

Little itty bitty kitty,
Safe and dry within the drain;
Deep within the old world city,
Sheltered well against the rain.

Mother cat will keep you safe,
And hide you where it's nice and warm-
Far below the ancient pavements,
Far away beyond the storm.

Way below the grim and gritty,
Deep inside the sewer main,
Deep within the old world city,
Safe and warm against the rain.

Lullaby for (too) loud kittens
based on
"Schlaflied für Anne" by Fredrik Vahle

Stand still and stay silent, they shall not hear
You and your siblings still mewling here,
No trolls shall come and be gone with this bait,
Stand still and stay silent, just a short wait.
Not trolls shall come and be gone with this bait,
Stand still and stay silent, just a short wait.

Stand still and stay silent, danger is near.
Coming for you and your mother in here.
Water is filling the hole where you sleep
Stand still and stay silent, out you must creep.
Water is filling the hole where you sleep,
Stand still and stay silent, out you must creep.

Stand still and stay silent, all will be well,
Mommy will come here and take you away,
Comes from the Silent World, slinking in here,
Stand still and stay silent, she is yet near.
Comes from the silent world, slinking in here,
Stand still and stay silent, she is yet near.

A runo song for brave little mothers.

Watchful mother,
Quiet, cunning,
Carry quickly
Leaping, running

First the one and
then the other
precious burdens,
little mother

Slip through danger
Undetected
To where you'll be
More protected.

Page 302, "Mom-cat", parody of "All Star" by Smash Mouth.

---------------------------------------

One day I found out that the sewers weren't safe now
A beastie that could tear us to shreds
It was looking all scary, its paws would prob'ly kill me
A collar with heart shapes adorned its head(s?)

Well, danger keeps coming and it won't stop coming
Got on the move, need to break the ground running
Doesn't make sense just to stay, not run
That beast is big; we'd be snacks for fun

Gotta go move, we need to see
If there's room somewhere else to stay safe
We'll never know if we don't go
We'll never live if we're too slow

Hey now, you're the mom-cat. Get your kittens, I say
Hey now, you're the mom-cat. Get to safe ground OK
In all these ruins of mold
There's another safe place, so I'm told

It's a dark place and they say it get's darker
You're bundled up now and don't want to get out there
But the big looming threat begs to differ
Judging by the claws we've seen in the last picture

The beast we skirt is getting pretty grim
We need to watch our step; the kits can't really swim
The sitch' is dire, how 'bout yours?
We don't really like it but we sure aren't bored

Hey now, you're the mom-cat. Get your kittens, I say
Hey now, you're the mom-cat. Get to safe ground OK
In all these ruins of mold
There's another safe place, so I'm told

Some cat I just asked for an exit route to pass
We need to get ourselves away from this place
He said yep, just over there
I've been livin' pretty well myself
And there is also plenty of space

Well, the danger keeps coming and it won't stop coming
Got on the move, need to break the ground running
Doesn't make sense just to stay, not run
That beast is big; we'd be snacks for fun

Gotta go move, we need to see
If there's room somewhere else to stay safe
We'll never know if we don't go
We'll never live if we're too slow

Hey now, you're the mom-cat. Get your kittens, I say
Hey now, you're the mom-cat. Get to safe ground OK

Does not Seam Right...

Kitten and cat stare from out of the niche
As a furry creature sniffs through the stream
A dog wandering around with no leash
Worms literally bursting right out of the seams

This dog-like creature does not seem right
Mouth partly sealed, a horrible view
The mother cat remains hidden out of sight
As wriggling things come out forth and spew

What were those things squirming out of the snout?
The danger has past, for now, at least
The cat and kitty haven't been found out
As they watch, moving past them, the horrible beast

--------------------------------------------------

Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?

Oh where, oh where
Has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
With his heart removed
And his mind long done
Oh where, oh where can he be?
I think he went down
To the rippling stream
To see what he could see
And in his mouth
Were worms wriggling loose
I wonder what could it be

Oh where, oh where
Has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
With his heart removed
And his mind long done
Oh where, oh where can he be?
I last saw him by the dark hole
Playing and running around
But I just can't see him there anymore
He there just cannot be found
This dog lost, my friend no longer I know
I may have seen him go by
Who knows where
He might have decided to go
We know it's not him in those eyes

Oh where, oh where
Has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
With his mind long done
Oh where, oh where can he be?

Relief all Round

The kittens cry out with different calls,
After the mangy beast has withdrawn.
Around the little dark hole they all sprawl.
Wondering what on earth is going on.

The mother returns the child back to the nest,
Watching the beast depart with a huge sigh.
Going back out alone would probably be best,
But chances the beast might return would be high.

Back to the gang and Lalli gets sprayed,
After scouting the land for more paths to see.
Being hosed off like some kind of stray,
And losing what's left of his dignity.

------------------------------------------

Mom Cat Across the Water (based on Madman Across the Water by Elton John)

She can see very well
There's a beast on the stream with a broken back
And she can see it very well
There's a hole and she knows it very well
It's one of those that she put them long ago
Take my word she's a mom cat don't you know

Once a scout had a good part in the play
If it's so would we still be here today
It's quite peculiar in a funny sort of way
They think it's very funny everything he says
Get a load of him, he's so dismayed
You better get your coat dear
It looks like spray

We'll come round in early afternoon
The home group hopes they'll see us very soon
But is it in your mind's eye that, dear spotter
Another glimpse of the mom cat across the water

She can see very well
There's a beast on the stream with a broken back
And she can see it very well
There's a hole and she knows it very well
It's one of those that she put them long ago
Take my word she's a mom cat don't you know

The ground's a long way down but I need more
Is the nightmare black
Or has the beast withdrawn
Will it come again next week
Can my mind really take it

Based on Eifersucht und Stolz. (from "Die schöne Müllerin" by Wilhelm Müller, music Franz Schubert)

I just came here to report back, and this I get?
A freezing splash of water making me all wet?!
Stop it, stop it, and let me first get used to it,
so that I can stop shivering and bearing it.

You´re saying something, do you think I understand?
I just watch you and guess it´s something coherent...
My cousin´s waiting with a towel and a cup
And I must stay here hoping that I can soon sup.

Wait, Tuuri, what are you conferring there with him?
I will get cookies if I bear his passing whim?
Okay, then I will bear again this freezing flood
Then cookies fast or I will spill his danish blood!
