From page 250:

When a grossling comes along,
You must kill it
Don't let it scream and raise the throng,
You must kill it
If your book hunt's going wrong,
You must kill it

Now stomp it, into mush

Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It's not too late to kill it
Kill it dead!

From page 254

It's the last dance, ladies and gentlemen. All bets are off.
It's not a smooth dance nor a fast one.
It's a slow waltz, to the tunes of a crumbling world.
It's the last dance, all the way down to the bone
It's our new pace now, sitting on the sidelines.
Till the darkness washes us into new steps.
It's a catchy beat, with it's own time.
but now we dance so close together.

Also hello there everyone!

Not as good as Unwary's but…

The Halls of the Dead

There is anguish and grief
In the Halls of the Dead
So many have fallen
So many have fled

Where now is our hope?
Where now is the day?
The sun once so bright now
Has faded away

We once were in flower
We once were in Spring
We once ruled the planet
We once were the kings

Our works once so mighty
Are crumbling to ash
Not one is left whole now
Destroyed by the Rash

Brought low by of all things
The tiniest germ
We crouch in the darkness
As humble as worms

There is anguish and grief
In the Halls of the Dead
So many have fallen
So many have fled

Aaaaand another one:

Song of the Survivors

Small flickers of light
In the midst of the dark
The world is against us
So cold and so stark

But we live

Though Troll or Beast may take us
Giants with many faces
Starvation, ruined places
This world can never break us

For we live

Humanity will make it
It’s our world and we’ll take it
To its roots we will shake it
Strip it down ’til it’s naked

For we live

As we pursue our quarry
For vengeance and for glory
There’s nothing makes us worry
The skalds will sing our story

For we live

All our heros, led by Sigrun of course,

WE WILL KILL YOU

BOOM BOOM *CLAP*
BOOM BOOM *CLAP*

Buddy you're a young troll, small troll
Think you're gonna spy on us and you just slink away?
Your slime is a trace, you big disgrace
Somebody's gonna follow you back to your place

We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*
We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*

Buddy you're troll, hiding in your hole,
Think you're gonna leap out and have us for lunch today?
Got a smile on your face? You big disgrace
Your gigglin' echoes all over the place

We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*
We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*

Buddy you're a big troll, old troll
King of the nest, gonna make it to giant one day?
Got blood on your face? You big disgrace
Let this Norwegian put you back in your place.

We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*
We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*

Everybody
We will, we will KILL YOU *CLAP* BOOM BOOM *CLAP*
We will, we will KILL YOU....

For some reason, here in the US if a radio station plays "We Will Rock You", nearly always they play "We Are the Champions" immediately after. It's almost a law of nature: "We Are the Champions" directly follows "We Will Rock You". So when I saw Slim Kittens' magnificent filk, my brain churned this out in response:

We Are the Cleansers

Kill them with fire
Burn out the nests
Then let the winter
Take care of the rest
Send in the cats
And mop-up crews
Put up the walls and
Burn out what’s left
So nothing gets through

And the cycle goes
On and on and
On and on and

We are the Cleansers of the land
And nothing that fights us will stand
We are the Cleansers
We are the Cleansers
No Troll can beat us cause
We are the Cleansers
Of the land

A small chant from small villages around saimaa preparing
for their fight for survival in their small villages.

"Tempered is our steel, Sharp is our
blade. Giants will fall, beasts shall
 tremble the brawl. Our warriors
are brave, Hard are their hits, soon
 they will the enemy blitz.

Strike with iron, Strike with swords
Don't let them run, Cut them down.

Soon will only you stand, solum and
grand. You will be remembered, for
 you your enemies dismembered.
You may fall to ground, from an trolls
wound, but there will be songs of you
 when we drink our brew.

Strike with iron, Strike with swords
Don't let them run, Cut them down.

By unwary, posted on page 257 in the comments.

Darkness is a fickle friend
sometimes it hides what we cannot face
others we must face when we cannot hide
do not trust it

Mercy is a lying beggar
it stays our hands, to spare the slain
only for them to rise and slay again
do not give it

Death a constant companion
never far behind, it hunts in our steps
until it ends it's hunt and we step no more
do not fear it

Kindness is a heavy burden
for others we give all we have
until our last is taken
do not forget it
Call me OMO, the wise ones do.

Pg 258
“Down the Hall”

Walking the halls
To find a troll in here
What is it I hear?
Scritch scritch scratch

Down the hall it
Seems so small I’ll
Kill it
Hack and slash

On my way back
To grab a big book stack
But where is Lalli?
Scritch scritch scratch

Down the hall it
Seems so small I’ll
Kill it
Hack and slash

Grosslings
Money
Hack job
Dumb Swede

Ok now
I’ve gotta take out this guy
Only then
Can I meet Lalli’s big eyes
Sigrun too
Might think some better of me
Maybe Mikkel
Won’t try to go and prank me

Cancer
Bandage
Hair spray
Pancakes

Walking the halls
To find a troll in here
And it sounds so clear
Scritch scritch scratch

Down the hall it
Seems so small I’ll
Kill it
Hack and slash

Pg 259
“Splurking”

Now something in me wants
To run away with all speed
Pure instinct
I can’t think
It’s just a little troll
I know I have to kill it
My duty
It haunts me

Abandoned by my friend
I’m all alone again
(Arrogance unlike confidence is my best defense against all those laughing at me)
I take one step, no more
And down it pours!

Splurking in my hair
So sticky do I feel
Whoa, is that a jaw?
It stings but I won’t squeal

BEHIND BLUE EYES

No one knows what it's like
To be the scared man, to be the dead man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hunted, and confronted
Taken by surprise

But my dreams, they weren't as empty
As my future seems to be
I have seconds, only seconds
My voice is frozen, it's hard to see

We've had several entries for Queen, here's the Eagles "Desperado".  This one's a bit of a downer, I'm afraid.
It's all fun and games until somebody remembers who they were.

I guess people liked my poem enough to ask me to post it here, so here it goes.

--To the tune of Schoolhouse Rock's "I'm just a Bill"--

I'm just a nest
Yes, I am only a nest
And I hope I don't seem much like a pest
There's a lot of book hoarders
Who explore my rooms freely
If one gets much too close
It might turn out that they feed me
But I know I should be fed someday
At least I hope and pray that I will
It's been 10 years since I've had my fill
Fluent: :usa:
Lightly dabbled in (read: "mostly forgotten"): :germany::france:

Just looked up the original, and the mood of the song is not at all what I expected (and nor are the lyrics -- the SSSS version is almost an original). I was expecting something darker-sounding.

Grumble grumble intermittent wi-fi grumble grumble…
Here's a couple from Pg 263:

Where in the World is Lalli Hotakainen?
[Rockapella's "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?"]

He was dragged off
On this trip
By his little cousin Tuuri
He was up all last night scouting
With his eyes all glowing (Neat!)
Now he sneaked off
Somewhere upstairs
And since then nobody's seen him
Tell me
Where in the world is
Lalli Hotakainen

Well from Finland
To Norway
He'll fight grosslings
His way
Though they go
From Malmo
To Svalbard
And back

=
“Ashes Again”
["Dust in the Wind", Kansas]

Burn it down
All my world engulfed in flames
That comfort me
Fires burn out
And the wind stirs up what’s left
So I can see

Ashes again
All I have are
Ashes again

Tend the nest
Trying to hold on to what
Is left of me
The Cleansers’ fire
Turns all of my hard work into
Futility

Ashes again
All I have are
Ashes again

Sparks remain
Sheltered in the cinders but
They soon go cold
The colors fade
Only grays where once were
Reds, blues and gold

Ashes again
All I have are
Ashes again

Ashes again
Everything now
Ashes again
