Title: Fan exchanges elsewhere
Post by: Unlos on December 26, 2017, 05:32:36 AM
I remember reading about some people missing the creative fan exchanges that used to be so frequent. They are no longer so common on the forum, but multifandom exchanges still happen on AO3, this year I was lucky enough to participate in trick or treat, and next up is chocolate box (http://archiveofourown.org/collections/ChocolateBox2018/profile) (the occasion, I think, is Valentines day so it might be a little too shippy for some)

I'll try to put up more links here as they come, and also please if anyone else knows about exchanges, post the links here so more people may get to know about them!

I'm signing up for Chocolate Box this year, even though I don't really like shippy content. There's lots of scope within family relationships (the & is a powerful device).
Thanks Unlos for the heads-up!

A few tips to those new to multifandom Ao3 exchanges:

- Usually you are required to request at least 3 fandoms and offer at least 4 fandoms. But sometimes this varies. The rules for the exchange will explicitly state what the requirements are.

- You can only request fandoms, characters, or pairings, if they are in the tag set. The tag set is set up during the "nomination process". Details about when this starts and ends will be in the exchange's rules/FAQ.

- Some exchanges, like Chocolate Box and Trick or Treat, require a 300 word minimum. But many exchanges require a 1000 word minimum. Make sure to check what the requirements are before you sign up.

- Optional details are very important in exchanges like this. You don't need to write a letter; you can leave your details in the "optional details" box on the signup form. But giving some information is very useful to the person writing for you, because there is a good chance that your writer will be a complete stranger, and they won't know what kind of stories you like. You don't need to write a lot; it can be as simple as "I like A & B friendship, magic, and happy endings" or "I really enjoy ghosts, canon-typical horror, survival scenarios, and space AUs".

- If you don't like something, mention it in your optional details. It's best to be brief and to the point. "Do not want: Ghosts, unhappy endings, A/B romance, and AUs/Crossovers".

- It is also useful to mention the ratings you are comfortable with, because most Ao3 exchanges do not match based on rating. Again, be brief. "18+ is okay" or "no higher than PG-13 please".

- On Ao3, the mod contact email is located at the top of the header, if you need to ask them a question. There is no way to directly contact mods on Ao3 because Ao3 does not have a PM system.

I think that's all for now... or at least those are the main things that come to mind.

Thanks Yuu for explaining and clearing up a bit about exchanges on Ao3.

And about requesting different fandoms, it is to make the job of matching easier for those organizing. The last exchange I participated in, however a redtails dream, City of Hunger and SSSS was listed as three different fandoms :)

It's an excellent idea to have a thread for fan exchanges!
I'm also going to sign up for Chocolate Box (already nominated a couple of relationships). And thanks Yuu for your tips, they're always very helpful.

Worlbuilding Exchange (https://worldbuildingex.dreamwidth.org/) is open for signups, currently. I love the concept and think plenty of other people here might appreciate it as well, given how many compliments SSSS worldbuilding receives.

- 3-10 fandom requests, 4-10 fandom offers
- 8 character and 8 worldbuilding slots for each request
- 1,000 words or a finished piece of art minimum
- aRTD, SSSS and City of Hunger are all available
- Signups are open until the 29th
- Assignments due on March 16th

You're welcome! And it generally isn't necessary to have a DW or LJ account; the journals are usually for the organizatorial parts of the exchange only (announcements, tag set clarifications, etc.). You do need an AO3 account in order to participate, though.

Four hours until signups of worldbuildingexchange (https://worldbuildingex.dreamwidth.org/) close, and I made it (barely).

Smut Swap has nominations open until Wednesday! As the name probably implies, it's for NSFW fic and art, so I'm not going to go into more detail here and refer you to the link instead: https://smutswap.dreamwidth.org/

Another slew of exchanges is coming up, so if you write SSSS fanfiction, be sure to have a look!

Fandom 5K (https://fandom5k.dreamwidth.org/) has signups open until Saturday. If you like meaty fics of the longer sort, this one's for you, because the minimum wordcount is 5,000 words.

Night on Fic Mountain (https://nightonficmountain.dreamwidth.org/) is an exchange for smaller fandoms of under 500 works on AO3 (completed, over 1,000 words and in English), and SSSS is scratching the upper limit of eligibility for this one, so it's very likely the last year it'll be allowed in. This one currently has nominations open, so if the main thing preventing you from exchanges is that you're not interested in what's nominated, head on over, read the rules, and nominate. ^^

Finally, a non-SSSS exchange, but if you're a music afficionado, Jukebox (https://jukebox-fest.dreamwidth.org/) is a music-based exchange that has signups open until next Wednesday; you write fanfiction based either on a song or a music video - over 600 to choose from!

It does! A few characters and pairings for that are in the tag set, too. And, I suppose, City of Hunger, for purposes of keeping the crew in there after SSSS has become ineligible.

Thank you for letting us know!

Aw, you're welcome! I hope some people decide to sign up, it's getting a bit lonely with only one or two fandom members there.

It looks like tagset nominations are open tfor AO3 Mother's Day Exchange (http://"https://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/2349") as well.
I couldn't sign up for the long fic exchange because I just couldn't pledge enough for the fandoms and tagsets that were out there, even though I have some ideas that could be developed.  Moral of the story - get in on the tagset nominations to set up the fandoms and/or relationships you are interested in!

Oh, nice find! There is something off with the link, so here's the fixed one: Mother's Day Exchange (https://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/2349). They also have an LJ (https://momsdayexchange.livejournal.com/) with nomination guidelines.

And Not Prime Time (https://npt-admin.dreamwidth.org/) (for medium-sized fandoms) has opened nominations until April 15. This one is a little more complex in terms of eligibility guidelines (https://npt-admin.dreamwidth.org/28245.html) - SSSS is in, unfortunately aRTD (108 fics) and CoH (...6 fics) are too small to qualify, but there's plenty of time to get in other fandoms that interest you, provided they qualify.

Elleth, what's the theme of the Not Primetime exchange?  I can see what they want, but not why.
Title: Re: Fan exchanges elsewhere
Post by: Elleth on April 09, 2018, 12:26:46 AM
I'm... not totally sure, actually? I know that NPT started out as a second, off-season Yuletide-inspired event, and the requirements for that are number-based, too. One critique that often shows up for exchanges in general is that no one is interested in small fandoms and the megafandoms take all the spotlight, so the medium-sized requirement for NPT might just be to cater to those for a change...?

Not Prime Time and Mother's Day look to be fic-only, but Night on Fic Mountain has options for both fic and art in the signup form. Usually, if you can't find a FAQ for a specific exchange on their journal, check the respective profile page on AO3 - that has a FAQ section as well, and most mods seem to use it.

For the slash shippers, RareMaleSlash Exchange has nominations open currently. There's a good deal of SSSS and aRTD pairings, as well as some CoH and crossover pairings relevant to forum interest.

The tagset is here (https://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/2343), there currently is no pairing from those fandoms that doesn't fulfil the eligibilty guidelines for rarity, even Emil/Lalli squeezed in by 50 fics or so. Nominations end on May 20, Signups open on May 23, requests and offers are 4-10 fandoms with 1-10 ships, for both fic and art, 1000 words or a complete piece of art for your request.

All the remaining info is here: https://raremaleslashex.dreamwidth.org/

I see a whole bunch of SSSS pairings under the 'Unassociated' set. Whomever put them under "SSSS" should probably revise them for Stand Still Stay Silent, or drop a message to the Exchange's mod(s) if you can't change them.

That usually just means the mod has approved but not sorted them, they seem to be in the right place now. :)

Also, for those of us who love female characters, EveryWoman currently has nominations open for both characters and groups:

Multifandom Drabble is open for signups until Saturday! It's a low-stress exchange for those little exactly-100-words snippets (or double/triple or series/sequences, you can specify that) with plenty of Minnaverse and Minnaverse crossovers to write for! The mod changed up the rules somewhat from last time, so you can specify whatever you want in the comment boxes - things you don't want, and things, characters or pairings that you do, your imagination is the limit!

It's super fun, this is one of my favourite exchanges of the year, and it'd be great to see someone else around there!

Tag sets are open for the Trick or Treat Exchange!  Art or fiction, trick (spooky) or treat (fluffy).
https://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/2574 (https://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/2574)  Dreamwidth: https://trickortreatex.dreamwidth.org/ (https://trickortreatex.dreamwidth.org/)
Even if you don't really want to sign up, getting in at the tagset stage is important - each person can only contribute so many, and more contributions means more to choose from for those who sign up!
This exchange is apparently single-character tags, not relationships, and the word limit and finish quality of the art is a lower bar as well, so maybe this is a good one to start with if you haven't done an exchange before, or in a while.
Tagsets are nominated from now through 8 September, then sign-ups are open for 11-18 Sept.  Assignments due 24 October, works revealed on Hallowe'en.

Something of a last-minute thing because signups close soon for the Holiday Fluff Exchange; signups close at 11:59om EST tonight. For... pretty much what it says on the tin, fluffy holiday fics/art of 1,000 words or a finished piece of art are required as minimum.

Go go go, don't leave me all alone - both aRTD and SSSS are in the tag set.

The Trick or Treat exchange is on again this year: https://trickortreatex.dreamwidth.org/
This is in tag nomination at the moment (through 8 Sept), with sign-ups happening 11-18 September.  You can scan the tagsets of SSSS, A Redtail's Dream and CoH (I forgot to check if this has even been nominated yet, or as part of the Crossover Fandom).  This is open for Art or Writing prompts, and you can specify Trick (spooky / angsty / dark) or Treat (fluffity / humour / light). Come join the fun!

aRTD & SSSS usually get written/drawn for this exchange, it's generally a lot of fun. Signups open Jan 01.

Since the comm doesn't have the requirements on it, and the ao3 collection doesn't have the details up yet, here's a refresh of the requirements:

Both & and / relationships can be requested/offered.

Minimum fanwork requirements are 300 words of fic or 1 clean sketch.

Request minimums: 3 fandoms, 1 relationship per fandom

Offer minimums: 4 fandoms, 2 relationships per fandom.

Heya all - Trick or Treat Exchange is taking tagset nominations now, and sign-ups commence next week.  This is an art or fic exchange.
https://trickortreatex.dreamwidth.org/ (https://trickortreatex.dreamwidth.org/)
There are lots of already-approved charactrer tags for ARtD and SSSS, but scan the list to see if you want to nominate more, or maybe start up a list for City of Hunger.  You can nominate several fandoms & characters, so do have a look for your favourites.

Their Community Challenge this year is based on songs, so they're also taking nominations for songs to reference in your works.  The nominatation sheet just says 'Fandom', but of course none of the pieces are their own fandom (so far as I can tell).  It appears you just type out the name of the song/piece, followed by the artist.  (Why yes, I nominated Yakety Sax.)

100 words to express your love of your favourite character(s).
Or bump them off.
Or get them to sit down and talk, for once.
Or relate that time Thor from the MCU encountered Sigrun from SSSS.  Oh, and your OC was there too.
Just 100 words, or a multiple thereof.
If that sounds like something you can do, check out the Multifandom Drabble (https://multifandomdrabble.dreamwidth.org/) exchange on Dreamwidth and Archive of Our Own.
They're taking nominations for characters and relationships all through next week, and then sign-ups the week after that.
Just 100 words.  You can do this.

Edit:  see Yuuago's clarification below, my bad.  Do join in, though!
Title: Re: Fan exchanges elsewhere
Post by: Yuuago on April 16, 2021, 08:45:28 PM
Clarification: Multifandom Drabble does nominations based on fandoms only. So you need to make sure that the fandoms you want to request and offer are in the list, but that's all for the nomination stage. Requests need to be at least 3 fandoms (maximum 8 ), and offers need to be at least 3 fandoms (maximum 10).

They do matching by hand rather than Ao3's algorithm, so your characters and relationships go into the Additional Details field when the signup stage opens.

That said, this is a really fun exchange, and I look forward to it every year. : ) I'll be interested in seeing the requests once they go up.

There are a couple of exchanges afoot:
Season of Drabbles (https://seasonsofdrabbles.dreamwidth.org/) - a drabble being a work of 100 words or a multiple thereof - in sign-ups now through 5 Sept.  They are also continuing to take character nominations throughout the sign-up period.  You can only nominate 10 characters, so I've nominated 10 each from SSSS and ARtD (might take a while to show up in the tagset), so even if you don't want to take part, you may wish to consider nominating characters for others to work with.  (SSSS still available for nomination: all members of the Quartet, trolls, original characters (incl original mages, original trolls, original characters elsewhere on the globe), all Prologue characters, all siblings of crew members, minor characters like Adm Olsen or Capt Harthardottir...)

Trick or Treat (https://trickortreatex.dreamwidth.org/) - in tagset nominations now through 8 Sept.  This is often heaps of fun, with a focus on the uncanny.  You can do a trick (horror / dark) or a treat (fluffy).  This one allows art as well as writing.
