I love this. Pure gold. It's very hard to choose, but I'm going to go with "Giant Radioactive Mutant Sea Lizard Sent To Punish Man’s Hubris" because sometimes, that's just how you're feeling. Sometimes, we all feel like that.

Add me to the list of people that didn't do much, haha. The day was spent lying on my stomach trying not to move. Being out of the country didn't help either, but that's sort of secondary. I think my family had the traditional barbecue... I was quite envious :>

8 liters. Eight measly liters of apple cider to ferment in the hopper, after 6 hours of washing, quartering & culling to garner 32 liters of apples and pears (from downed tree detritus) and 2 hours of cranking the hand grinder to pulp and press it all.  There's an attempt to preserve some of the wild yeast, so we'll see if the whole effort goes to waste with a bacterial bloom or something.  Fingers crossed (assuming I could cross my fingers, which are a leeetle stiff after all that knifework).

Wyrm, that is so funny!

Wavewright, that is a fairly typical amount of juice; indeed, not bad at all. We used to do it at the Mediaeval Fair, with my old-fashioned cider press, the wooden frame thing with a giant metal screw. It was fun to call a few husky big blokes out of the audience and get them to turn the screw to crush the 'cheese' (the layers of apples and straw with which the press was loaded), and see how soon they fell over. Cutting the apples first makes the task much easier. May your cider work well!
