…That does not look like a domestic cat. Did you mean cat species?  It's a cool idea though even though I don't recognize it or the name and really want to look it up or ask for the scientific binomial classification.

The "far east wood cat" reminds me a bit of "forest cats", except there are traits in there that make me think it's at least mixed with something wild (the rounded ears being a big one).

It's kind of interesting how much cat species can interbreed and even (very rarely, in the right circumstances) have fertile offspring that can cross back to one of the parent's species. IIRC, all cats have the same number of chromosomes, just some are moved around in one species, or turned off, or still active in the others. But just having a matching number of chromosomes makes crosses easier. So then it comes down to how different the actual genes are and size differences as to whether a pairing will produce viable, or even fertile, offspring.

I figure Lalli would be a Norwegian forest cat. Silent, often grey, has a kind of sinister nobility disguised by adorableness and, of course, originally would have roamed the forest before it was domesticated

Definitely something fluffy and affectionate.

I'm thinking Reynir would be something large that does not know its large, and loves to crawl onto people's laps though there's not necessarily room for him. Some kind of bob-cat hybrid, possibly?

To me, Reynir is more like a dog person, though I can't settle on any breed. But maybe there are cats like that too, I just haven't encountered them yet ;)

If Reynir is a dog, he would be a sheepdog. Or some other kind of working dog with boundless energy, like a kelpie.
