Actually doghouse does kinda work.  Saying someone has been sent to the doghouse generally means that they aren't allowed to sleep where they normally do as a punishment.  It's not a direct translation, but I can see how the crossover happens.

Actually, the only difference between "skammekroken" and "shame corner" is that there is an orthographic space in the latter, but otherwise, both are compound words built exactly in the same fashion. English has big germanic compounds, it just *writes* them with spaces.

well yes
but in norwegian (and probably german??) you can just smush ALL THE WORds together. it makes playing scrabble much easier
like
shame corner = skammekrok
inhabitant of the shame corner = skammekrokbeboer
the inhabitant of the shame corner's shame = skammekrokbeboerskam

but yeah this is maybe getting off topic. please bring on some memes
