Poets Cornered

Yastreb:
Back in my childhood, I recall watching the BBC comedy show Not Only... But Also... with Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore. One of my favourite parts was the closing segment Poets Cornered, in which Pete, Dud, and a guest were seated facing a vat of something they called "BBC Gunge." The three were to create poetry on the spot, and any hesitation or errors in making the poem (such as a bad rhyme or getting the scansion wrong) would get the perpetrator hurled into the gunge. And there was no winner; in the end, all three would be hurled into the gunge.

Well, there's no gunge available, and no way to hurl S4 members into it. But we can still create poetry here, one line at a time. Here's an example (albeit short) from another forum long ago...

Your eyes shine like deep cesspools in the pale moonlight
I look down on you from my superior height
A loaded pistol is in your hand
As you wrestle with events you don't understand
And contemplate depths never plumbed
Of harps and lyres never strummed
Lay down that weapon, lest the world never know
What gifts and what joys you could bestow
Down that song, those tunes those notes
Take off those gumboots and lay down that goat
Stand up straight and give a sheepish smile
'Cos jokes about livestock are never out of style
With goat and gun and gumboots akimbo
Your thoughts fly out to some strange limbo
Barefoot you follow your fleeing ideas
Trying to forget your deep-seated fears
These fear they leave on whispered wings
As mind and thought release such things

So, here's the opening line. Over to you!

As I was flying my private plane I heard a sudden rip

The left-side wing had been torn askew, the plane began to dip

Opaque:
I never really thought much of poetry until I started reading SSSS and reading all those cool poems in the comments. I'm enjoying poetry a lot more now (especially the haiku chain). Thanks for making this thread. It'll be fun.

My life flashes past as the wind fuels the fire

Yastreb:
As I was flying my private plane I heard a sudden rip
The left-side wing had been torn askew, the plane began to dip
My life flashes past as the wind fuels the fire
All the high and and low moments of my life entire

Buteo:
As I was flying my private plane I heard a sudden rip
The left-side wing had been torn askew, the plane began to dip
My life flashes past as the wind fuels the fire
All the high and and low moments of my life entire
No future now is offered by the earth spread out below
