What am I going to do late weekday nights for the next couple weeks without my SSSS fix?

RULES
- It is an honor system.
- The ribbon is for the chapter you waited for.
For example, if you waited for SSSS to start in the very beginning, you get the Prologue ribbon.
If you waited during the break between Chapter 6 and Chapter 7, you get the Chapter 7 ribbon. - The book ribbons are to consolidate chapter ribbons if there start getting to be too many ribbons.
There is a special distinction for Book 1 if you waited for SSSS to start, you get the Book 1 Plus ribbon.

Myself and some others were thinking it would be kind of neat to have badges to show which chapter breaks a person endured and survived. My initial thoughts were for embroidered patches, but it was suggested having some military style ribbons for use online would be most best! So, I started playing with the idea and here are my notes and first digital ideas for thought and critique.

Personally, I'm gonna finish a fanfic I started a while ago, maybe make another SSSS-music video (I got yet another idea last night!). That means I'll have to reread SSSS to find the pictures I need so I'll just put that on my to do-list as well.
And of course, lurk in the forums and comment-sector to see what everyone else is up to.

You might find the yarncraft thread (http://ssssforum.pcriot.com/index.php?topic=299.0) to be of help. There was also some discussion about knitting in the T-shirts thread (http://ssssforum.pcriot.com/index.php?topic=157.15).

I know how to crochet. Haven't made anything more complicated than a blanket. Oh and my improvised fingerless glove-thing.

It's a bit difficult for me to make multiple different "normal" voices. When I stray into far different voices that sound older, louder, more evil and such, then it's easier for me make them sound more different. One of the reasons I'm doing this project is to continually learn more about how I CAN do more with voices and gain more experience doing them. So I'll learn bit by bit. Thanks for listening!

Got my weaving cards in the mail the other day and started trying to thread them yesterday. I am determined to get good enough at these things to figure out how to do the SSSS logo. I will figure it out, darn it! But first I have to figure out how to do card/tablet weaving at all. I will prevail!

Excellent! I'll try to make sure to post some pictures and so forth (probably in the The ARTD/SSSS Yarncrafters Club thread) once I get actually, you know, get the thing going, hehe. ;) Happily, I managed to get the cards threaded without much difficulty. Sadly, getting the loom set up with the cards and yarn did not go so well, and I just got a bunch of yarn wrapped around in a funny manner. I will try again tomorrow, perhaps after watching more YouTube videos on how to do it. :)

This is my first chapter break and I thought I'd manage but I'm not doing well at all. :( I keep going back to re-read the comic and then fidget for a while, come here and read the threads for a bit, go back to the comic... hnnnngh the wait, it kills. Yes. YES! This is perfect! You might want to include the chapter number as part of the badge though, it would make it easier to tell which one is for which chapter without having to refer to a key of some sort.

I like the idea very much, though I don't remember which chapter breaks I have survived. I think I stopped for some time during the prologue and started reading again when the First Chapter was on. Yeah, that must be it.

Maybe you could condense the badges/make them all melt into each other when put side by side? That way they wouldn't become a suuuper long string. :D
A badge for original followers (like a veterans badge) would also be pretty cool.
As for colors, Chapter 2 could have brown, that was pretty much the main color in that chapter.

Ohohohoo these are great! But is, say, the "chapter 5" ribbon for the break before or after the chapter?? Seeing as you've got a prologue ribbon I'd say after, but just to make sure

I was thinking that putting a stripe in for which book it is (one stripe for 1, two for 2, etc.) but I guess we need some for the chapters too. or a number or something.
I would like to make some smaller sizes that could be used for forum footers, so it doesn't get overwhelming.
Maybe come up with some other sorts of badges as well, but I wanted to work on this set first.
Lars had suggested the color of the chapter previous to the break, which sounded good to me.

I think it'd get the same message across without getting as cluttered. And perhaps along with a veteran's badge, the earlier ones should be a little more decorated as a way to celebrate long-time readers (and chapter break survivors), even if they weren't around from the very beginning.

That looks like a good size. I was also thinking when things start mounting up, when we have 20 chapters or something, we could have them consolidated by book. Like you were waiting through all the chapter breaks of book one, you could have a Book One ribbon.

This is probably totally far-fetched and impossible but I wonder if it would make sense to rig up some kind of system to award them automatically? Or, on request? Otherwise (and this is me being a cynic here) what would stop people from just putting whichever one they like most into their signature, without actually having that credential?

I agree with those who say we should use the one from our first chapter break. But then maybe there can be some special badges, like prologue veterans like someone said, those who were there for the introduction of Reynir, and whatever other "big deal" events that will happen.

If there's interest in a general Achievement-type system, there's a few external options like OpenBadges that I can look into, but I like the idea of it being something made by the members.

My immediate thought was that the red in Chapter 6 is too strong/prominent.
I agree. Chapter 6 had a really fluffy pastel color scheme and I think it was more tilted towards periwinkle than red? However, everything else seems spot on to me! :D Great job starfallz!

I like this idea. You could just put the Book One flag and then put the separate chapters in parentheses for clarification on when you showed up. If someone has just the book, you could assume that they've been reading since the beginning.

Wow, I love these! My only concern is that the very narrow bands of color would be hard to see when they are shrunk down really small. They might show up better if they were a bit wider.

Type in : chap3 :, : chap4 :, etc., only omit the spaces between the colons and "chap3".

Yeah! Now that people are adding the badges, it seems like a lot of people joined the fandom right before chapter 6 actually.
But it's super weird to think that new and future fans will get, like, immediate reynir, he's already there in the character page, you can see his name and gender and profession and everything already, you've missed out on that high-strung tension chapter 6 brought with everyone expecting braidy around every corner....... reynir feels like such a natural part of the comic now.

Can confirm. Doc and Captain feel like such a long time ago now. There wasn't such a hype about them as there was about Braidy, though - smaller reader base, and of course, Reynir was the last human crew member to be added which made him very important.

this is what I would be doing, except I don't actually try to make anyone else read SSSS. it just happens. I am the SSSS maelstrom and people who spend too much time in my vicinity get sucked right in, I don't even try, and I can't keep Reynir a secret when I'm the embodiment of the *spills pictures of character everywhere* meme..........
what is funny, though, is that by "everyone in my vicinity" i mean internet vicinity, like tumblr and facebook. my parents who follow me on neither, don't even know what SSSS is. Actually, I thought the prologue was a little confusing (too many characters, too many things happening) and I didn't like it that much? So I gave the comic some time and returned only when the first chapter was already on progress. Later I found out that I wasn't the only one who felt like this about the prologue.
(But I love the prologue now, ok, it was a phase).

If you started during chapter 6 and then endured the wait for chapter 7, then you can the chapter 7 ribbon. The only thing that matters is that you had to read the comic. Forum or even comments participation are not required.
For those considering if you caught up and waited during one of the chapter breaks... that is where it comes to it being an honor system and your own judgement. Basically these are evidence of your suffering and endurance. :D

I actually started reading right at the end of chapter four,so I literally got three pages and then had to wait for the 2.5 week chapter break (darn you, sister, for making me start then!) It's pretty interesting how many of us joined during the book hunt chapter though, even the people who I think of as essential members the community! XD

I was lucky in the beginning since I saw just a couple of new pages before the start of a new break. I thought this was normal and so didn't have withdrawals at all. The next break was pretty bad and I started writing fanfic and drew a couple of maps during it... Updated my profile accordingly. The winter is slowly setting in here so I likely have more time to agonize over the next break ???

I think I'm reasonably literate, but it's been a long day...is there any particular "method to the madness" as to ribbon colors/patterns? Do they take a color scheme from the chapter covers or something similar to that? Like, for example, in the American armed forces, the Vietnam Service Ribbon reflects the South Vietnamese flag:

You're welcome! I also want to note that I changed the chapter 11 ribbon since Minna changed book 2 to end with chapter 10 instead of with 11 as she had stated previously. So the book 2 ribbon consolidates chapters 6-10.

These ribbons are for the chapter breaks you have endured and survived.
RULES
- It is an honor system.
- The ribbon is for the chapter you waited for.
For example, if you waited for SSSS to start in the very beginning, you get the Prologue ribbon.
If you waited during the break between Chapter 6 and Chapter 7, you get the Chapter 7 ribbon. - The book ribbons are to consolidate chapter ribbons if there start getting to be too many ribbons.
There is a special distinction for Book 1 if you waited for SSSS to start, you get the Book 1 Plus ribbon.

Myself and some others were thinking it would be kind of neat to have badges to show which chapter breaks a person endured and survived. My initial thoughts were for embroidered patches, but it was suggested having some military style ribbons for use online would be most best! So, I started playing with the idea and here are my notes and first digital ideas for thought and critique.

You look up the list in the threadstarter post (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=308.msg20562#msg20562), and in order to add the ribbon for chapter 4711 to your signature, you add the corresponding ":chap4711:" code to it (adding a space before and after if you want to be really sure it gets parsed correctly).

Thanks for the tag. It has been a crazy year since then, but also I am feeling more and more disconnected from the comic for various reasons. I probably will not resume with the chapter break ribbons at this time.

I have two Photoshop files I use. One larger for the group list, and a smaller one to make the icons. Do you use Photoshop?
