Year 997 (Winter) AUC    The map The map, Achievements and Important persons' list has been updated
The deal that was made with Kantasus was fair and what kind of king would you be if you started breaking your promises, so you order your men to start sending the promised gold to Kantasus while you take care of the other parts of the deal.

Roll: 3

Unfortunately almost as soon as the fleet escort with the gold to Kantasus leaves the harbor it’s hit by a huge storm, and the ship carrying the gold gets away from the ships meant to protect it. Even after the storm has died down the remaining escort is unable to locate the lost ship. The lost ship is presumed sunken until a week later when some of the crew from the ship is found half dead from dehydration on a lifeboat in the middle of the sea by some fishermen, apparently the ship wasn’t brought down by the storm but was hijacked by pirates.

A)   Send a new escort with the more gold to Kantasus and deploy some of the royal navy to find these pirates and bring back the lost gold. We can’t have Kantasus waiting too long for his gold and the navy should quickly be able to locate the pirates and bring back the lost gold. (-1 Economy (maybe temporary if the stolen gold is found again), -1 Army (also temporary since it’ll only be in effect until the fleet has found the pirates)

B)   It is the job of the southern nobles to keep those waters pirate free therefore they should also be the ones to bring back the gold with their own local war ships. There’s also no need to send a new load of gold to Kantasus since the pirates and the gold should be found soon.

C)   Send a new fleet escort with gold to Kantasus but let the local nobles handle the pirates (-1 Economy, maybe temporary)

D)   Send some of the royal navy to deal with the pirates and find the gold, but don’t send Kantasus more gold until the gold lost is found again (-1 Army, temporary)

In spite of the risk of tying, I'm gonna vote D.
As long as we can explain this delay to Kantasus, that is.

Year 998 (Spring) AUC    The map
*Flips GM coin, you choose D*

The quickest way to get Kantasus‘s gold back will be to send a part the royal navy to retrieve it, and maybe they can also chase the pirates roaming in that area back to wherever they came from. So you order your fleet to do that. You also send a letter to Kantasus explaining why his gold will be late, hopefully he’ll understand.

Roll: 5

The royal fleet succeeds in tracking down the pirates that raided your ship in a matter of a few weeks. The pirates’ hideout where located on a very small insignificant island in the middle of the sea, but it didn’t seem like they were expecting anyone to find them since their ‘fortress’, if it even can be called that, where overtaken by our soldiers with ease. Our men managed to capture most of the pirates alive and after a bit of integration and searching the island they find all of our gold, the pirates hadn’t even had time to spend any of it.

After interrogating the pirates for a bit it’s revealed that they’re from The principality of Belast, a small country in the northern part of the big island of Athesh a bit south of Ríduga. The principality of Belast is currently in a bit of a chaotic state and has been so for some years, and it seems that some the former fishermen from the country have turned to piracy as a new way to earn a living. The pirates are brought back to the capital so that you can judge them while the gold is safely delivered to Kantasus.

Since it’s a new year your advisors also presents you the kingdom scroll:

Happiness: 5
Population: 6
Economy: 4
Army: 4*
*Part of navy still in pirate waters

A)   Sentences the pirates to death, the state of Belast probably isn’t going to change soon so the pirates are going to keep disturbing our trade ships as long as they think they can get away with it. Killing the pirates will probably scare the other pirates away from our trade routes.

B)   Imprison them, they don’t deserve to die but they still almost killed all of the crew on our transport ship so setting them free wouldn’t be right either. If we’re lucky this and the recent fleet activity in the area should be enough to scare the rest of the pirates away.

C)   They’re just normal people who got cut up in a bad situation. Confiscate their pirate equipment and send them back to Belast on the next ship.

C, the word of our mercy may spread. Also look into the situation in Belast, figure out  what their major malfunction is and see if they can be aided in some way or restoring the peace.

I think they should be held responsible for any deaths they've caused, but I do want to take some pity on them. Shame we don't have an option like "you will work off your debt to your society" or something.

Good idea. I change my vote to Rhynerd's option "The pirates will work off their debt to society".

Year 998 (Summer) AUC    The map The map has been updated
Ah nice I was afraid we were going to have a three way tie

You sentence the captured pirates to work their debt off to society, they don’t deserve to be in prison for the rest of their lives but what they did was still wrong. Hopefully this will also be enough to scare off the rest of the pirates roaming the sea between Ríduga and The Disilian Isles.

This action has earned Ernst the title of “The Just”

Roll: 2

However good and fair your decision may have been it has no effect on the level of pirates in the region, in fact there has even been an increase in pirate activities and it’s beginning to be a real problem for the merchants and traders in the area. Rosu proposes that you move the royal fleet base from the northern part of Failigeadh to a place in south of the country, since just having such a big fleet near our trade routes should scare even the most reckless pirate away from our waters.

This however can be problematic since the reason for the fleet base’s current placement is that it by being in the north has very easy access to the high quality trees form The Great Forest of Escan, which are used to repair and build all ships in our fleet. The idea of having a minor part of the fleet permanently stationed in the south with the mission to combat the pirate problem is also brought up, but that could cause a divide in the focus of our fleet if they’re ever needed in a war.

A)   Move the fleet base closer to the south (Will increase the time in which it takes to build and repair our fleet since the tress will have to be transported all the way from Escan)

B)   Move a minor part of the fleet to the south to deal with the pirates and keep the majority of our fleet where it always has been (-1 Army, as long as they have orders to combat the pirates (your army stat is currently at 5))

C)   Move none of the fleet, it’s the job of the local nobles and the trades to keep their own ships safe, the royal fleet is too important to waste on pirates.
