An experiment of sorts - I took an old book illustration, scanned it and tried to colour it with the help of a bazillion Multiply layers in Photoshop:

Original lineart.

The colouring is pretty crude, I think, but it turned out to be okayish.

Really well done! Gives off that matching vintage feel with the flat colors and sketchy outlines.

Spoiler: Stayed up late till 2:30 AM making this. Time well spent, I think! • show

Drawing real-life objects is not a particularly glamorous task, but it helps develop digital painting skills.

...and it looks like I screwed up the ellipses despite my best attempts at making them right. Gah!

Wow, that does look really good.  The lighting, shadows, and reflections give it a photo-realistic look.  I actually thought it was 3D art at first.
An innate goofball who wanted to be elegant and composed.  That ain't happening.

I made a painting of my story, but it turned out both glossy and fuzzyish once the scanner ate it...Which is slightly helpful since the faces were pretty messy.
It's called "Bad Luck Child" because Tristan starts out his story very sadly.

Oh god your art is so beautiful, it gives me life. It looks like the illustrations for a cool Indie Rock poster, or an Independent Comic, sooo coooool.
(When I say your art is cool and trendy and indie and hipsterish, that is 100% a compliment)   ;D
