Title: The pets thread!
Post by: Ceceoh on September 18, 2014, 09:00:55 AM
My cat just begged for, and ate with relish, an algae wafer that I feed to my pleco. Does your pet eat weird stuff? (Skip the ususal suspects, poop and vomit, please.)

My old dog (who sadly isn't here anymore) ate shoes, watermelons, and my mother's favorite dress. Regarding watermelons, he also broke them by scaring us to death and making us drop them so they split, then he ate.

Your old dog sounded awesomely mischievous Nimphy! X'D

My cat has eaten pumpkin pie, strawberries, sponge cake, pavlova, self saucing puddings, teriyaki things, (she's a trouble maker who tries to jump onto the table when no ones watching) and most importantly, practically a million kilos of her own fur. Also daisies and bugs. :/

The not-so-cute 'food' she'll try is decomposing wallaby or possum ;__; you know she's been eating one because it's all over her face and chest and then there's the SMELL and I have to give her a bath and... and... NOPE. JUST NOPE.

OH! And yesterday she got trapped in dad's office and ate half the cover page of a special important contract. She was in trouble. But we fixed it.

My previous roommate's cat ate shrimp noodles that were too spicy for me to eat.

I believe I fed my fish Goldfish crackers at one point. What was more weird was my guinea pig, who WOULDN'T eat any treats (except one very specific kind) or fruit. Which means I ate more of her treats than she did.

My cat (who sadly is also now gone) was fond of carrot in all it's formes. He could feel someone started to slice carrot while sleeping somewhere in the opposite end of our flat. And I had to share my carrot juice with him. I think he could easilly sell his immortal soul for it. Gah, he could easilly sell two soules if he'd only had it.

He was! You know about the running gag in movies where the postman gets attacked by dogs? He terrorized ours by jumping over him and licking him all over the face.

Your cat ate Anna Pavlova?! ((Hehehe, why can I imagine that just fine?))

Hahaha, yes, I knew. Sadly, we don't have that yummy goodness over here ;_; Waaah, I want some, it looks delicious. On the other hand... Pizza.

Spiders are on the menu of all of our pets when we don't take it from them, and the dog ate a wasp once (you can imagine the results, but she didn't learn).

My cat is another matter: usually she tries to eat anything if she sees that I'm eating it.
She loves cooked corn so much she's technically tremling while begging for it, with all her hair standing in different directions. A while ago she realized that apples aren't so good, but she still pretends to eat it, then spits it out when she thinks I'm not looking.
She was the funniest when a bunch of parsley got dropped to the ground. She run there, like the devil would have been on her heels, and started to wolf it down. I think she just needed to dispose of the swallowed hair with it's help, but then she got scared by the exploding laughter and ran off.

A couple of days ago my cat tried to eat raw egg off the floor.

He also insists on only drinking water directly from the shower floor and only if the water comes out of the shower head. It is slightly worrying but he's an old cat.

Cats are like that. Did you know that cats usually don't like to drink where there's food nearby?
My roommates cat always sneaked in during shower time and then patiently waited for us to finish, so he could lick the drops... He didn't even mind getting wet.

Our beagle (now dead) had this thing for frozen vegetables. Normally he would not chance it if we accidentally dropped food on the floor, but when it came to rock solid deep-frozen vegetables he would go for it like a starving hawk and then run off with it triumphantly.

Our cat (aptly named ?) has an offputting taste for lizards and cockroaches, and also enjoys drinking out of the toilet. I think my mom's tried feeding her bread and generic rice krispies, but I can't recall if she enjoyed those.

That's how I had to get my cat to drink when she was a kitten, putting water on a plastic ice cream tub lid so she would lick up the drops, then progressed to fuller bowls :S man, she was nearly a goner back then ;__;

My old dog, was obsessed with bread. When you had bread he would go in a trance and follow you around only concentrating on the bread, not stealing it tho. With this bread you could let him nod yes and no and so we had whole conversations, we gave him the bread aftherwards.

He also stole the bread from bird feeding plateaus. Also one time we went to feed the ducks. And we threw bread at them, but our dog jumped in the water and ate the bread XD

-----
We had another dog who was amazing at stealing cheese. We never could leave cheese on the table beause he would get it. So then we stopped buying big chuncks of cheese and insteed packed slices of cheese wich are harder to chew on for dogs. We still only have sliced cheese even tho our dog died last year.

My dog ate bees until the nest in the garden had none left. He loves frozen chips, he gets one each time we put them in the oven. He loves currys and chilli although he doesn't like brown sauce. He eats any fruit except citrus's. He has stopped eating soft toys that he had problems passing, pulling stuffing out his butt wasn't a highlight of owning a pet.

The cats eat rich tea biscuits, mushrooms and any rolls they can steal.

Chickens are somewhat psychopathic anyway. There was a story in a news a while ago about a fox that was found dead in a chick coop. It had got caught under some wood and the chickens literally pecked it to death. :o

One of my friends keeps chickens and got so sick of them pooping in their water trough he bought a special anti-poop watering dish. They still managed to foul it. Apparently the only way that was possible would be if they flew over the dish and aimed juuust right. Which they did. Repeatedly.

Chickens man.

I hope there isn't a thread like this already. I did a quick search and came up with nothing so... here goes!

Show off your critter companions!

I have two cats, Goya:

Goya is a clumsy, silly kitty. Her tail was broken in two places when she was a kitten. She's a rescue, so I'm not sure how or when that happened. But I love her very much. She's about 6 or 7 now.

Pixel is our newest addition, she's around 1 year old and we got her from a friend of a friend in June. She's hilarious, and a lot more agile/energetic than Goya, which of course drives Goya a bit crazy. She also can't meow. She only chirps. A lot. Especially when jumping onto or off of things. Sometimes she tries to meow, usually at the end of a long chirp, but it comes out as a broken squeak.

Anyway, so those are my great loves. If I had the space and money I would probably own a mountain of dachshunds too by now.

Now show me your critters!

Do Lemon trees and cactus count as pets? I manage to kill every living thing around me within a month normally. The mouse only lived because my boyfriend set the trap, I'm sure about that. But the lemon tree is near the age of a months and shows no signs of dying while Gustav (my cactus) has become a beloved companion through the last five years!

Gustav even has eyes!

I don't have a real pet either, but a "mystery plant". It's grown from the seed of a fruit I ate in Thailand. The seed was just the right size to fit comfortably into my palm and felt a bit like polished wood, so I kept it as a talisman. Back at home, I put it into the pot of another plant that had recently died and completely forgot about it. Well, a month later a plant had started to grow... and it's still growing really fast. I came back from Thailand in March, and now the plant is almost half a metre high.  :o
I don't know what the fruit was called, and neither google searches nor my cousin who is studying plant biology could identify it. I hope the plant doesn't turn out to be carnivorous or poisonous someday...  ???

Thanks guys. This is how I go about naming things.
- Run through a bunch of random words and name-like things over a few days.
- Find one random thing that is just, yesss.
- Be happy.

Kurapika (nicknamed Pulla, or bun.. like the pastry), turning 10 next April. He lives with my parents, since I moved away from home.
He is very independent, goes outside, catches mice and other vermin... birds... squirrels...

He doesn't really care for pettings, but likes to be in the same room as humans. If he happens to notice anyone from our family wandering to nearby woods, he follows you there and keeps meowing until you turn back <3

Yeah, my mother lived in the countryside and can't stand the thought of keeping cats inside. Even though keeping cats free and without a collar is illegal in Finland, many people still do it. (Though mostly in areas that are safe, no big roads or anything)

The dog was happy to see me though.  :)

Yes. I was a huge fan back then (and even now I think I should rewatch the series.). Only problem I had, I didn't realize what the name meant in finnish.. Kura means something like mud, especially frozen mud, and "pika" means "fast", so his name isn't the most beautiful one to normal finns ears. It basically sounds like a nickname for diarrhea, haha.

But our family has a thing for nicknames anyway, so it's often just "boy", "cattie", "little man", "fur-him", and all kinds of silly names.

(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/54281348/kisu%20ja%20ruoka.png) This a very accurate depiction of our relationship. I'll give you a hint: he isn't interested in me, my camera nor my movies in that picture  ;)

I'm not much of a dog person, never have been, and when my mother took in my cousin's dog, I hated him at first. And I don't mean some mild dislike, I mean hated. I wouldn't even let him touch me and I went as far as to avoid even looking at him. However, I started warming up at the big fella over time and now, years later, I don't know what I'd do without my playmate.

Mölli, my fluffy brother and the most precious thing to me in the whole world.

Haha, look at him goooo on the truck! What a silly animal. So sorry about his passing, though. :( The worst part about pets is how we tend to outlive them... Although it would feel bad even if it were other way around.

Pusku looks so adorable :3 Getting sleep is important when you're a hyperactive cat!
I used to have similar problem to dogs, I just prefer cats so much more... But I'll pet dogs every time I get the chance anyway, heh. I guess I just like cat's independence more than dog's loyalty, but they really can't help it. And it's just personal preference anyway.

You Finns have adorable cats.
Noako, yours in the hat was too much for me to handle.

I think I prefer cats a little bit, but I like both.  Cat affection has to be earned, which I like, but dogs are naturally affectionate, which I also like...  but cats don't need baths and don't stink, so they win.

*Typical white guy voice* Hey, not all dogs smell bad!

I met my stepmother's cats for the first time yesterday one of them decided that my lap was her favorite lap. There were three other people in the room, and of course she chose the lap of the one who likes cats the least. (I'm a dog person)

But of course. Whenever my aunt from Sweden comes to visit, dear old Pulla decides to give her all the attention, to sleep in her bed, the usual... She's allergic.

I do think I might be slightly allergic to cats, too...

:D If there is one thing my dog hates, it's when I take photos of him. That's why he seems sleepy in these as he was too tired to protest.

The quality isn't the highest, but... Here are some pictures of my cat!  His name is Truman, he's a tuxedo with a mustache and gloves, except his one black toe, which always made think of a James Bond character carrying a pistol.  He is pretty refined, after all.  He grew up following me around the house, because I was the one who played with him all the time.  :)
He's back on good terms with me, returning my slow blinks, and he's laying on my belly again.
link (http://t.co/NGIwH2Cp64)
link (http://t.co/qgq1r6gC2M)

And the dog, he's a big fat love ball.  Every time I come home he gives me a big dog-hug (pushes the side of his head into my lap and closes his eyes out of trust). He might be part bear, we're not sure... either way, he's very big.  He intimidates everyone, but he just smiles all the time and would never hurt anything on purpose.  In the end, he's really my dad's dog.

Also, pet story time.  The dog actually got hit by a car on an outting with my dad.  Flew through the air and everything.  Poor guy was out of it for a while, but he managed.  He's tough as nails.

<EXCESSIVE CAT PHOTOS WARNING>
These are my two cats Dolly (white, large) and Mitzi (small, dark points) they're sisters and like to hang out and do everything together. Mostly sleeping and exploring and grooming.
These aren't great photos but they're the only ones on my phone :P
(http://i57.tinypic.com/2czefds.jpg)

Dolly is a huge goofball, obsessed with keeping her fur tidy, but embarrasses herself a lot. She gets huffy and ashamed easily X'D so much so that I've started to say "Ugh you're such an Emil u___u"
Mini Mitz is very timid and dainty, she's referred to as mine because I had to hand feed her etc when we bought her (for free, she was thrown in with Dolly- the prize of the litter- because she was the runt with a hip problem) so I'm her favourite go-to human to sleep and drool on :P she's also pretty protective of Dolly if she's sad or unwell, (bottom left) and vice-versa.

They're both very vocal and talkative, social, and leave white fur on everything :3

So many caaaaaats!!
They seem delightful.  :D  That last picture with the dilated pupils... she was ready to be pet and stumble around in moron mode for a while, it seems.

Concerning posts I missed from being on my phone (finally back on my computer.  I can't even deal without using a proper keyboard and mouse...), yes Truman is a classy fellow, most of the times.  He descends into moron mode when I'm around, though.  Also, I've never seen a James Bond flick, so I'm not sure if it's Goldfinger or not...

Oh, and Lars, you totally need to get a cat.

Nice little fellows!

Things to get done before I get a cat:
Finnish my training, so I actually will have time to care for some of them
move somewhere where cats are able to go outside (or have a vast space of rooms to discover)
Own a door where you are able to build a cat flap in.
Find one to two cats :)

Awwwww adorable wuffle puffy fluffy kitties!  [would do hearts and flowers emoticons if I knew how.]
Is Dolly the one whose tail you French-braided?  And is she the enormous stretched-out one in the lower cut-out photo?  (Right above the mystery hand.)  She looks like a big lapful of lovin'.  (Mitzi looks adorable too, and a lot more self-reliant.)

Yup, that's her! (The mystery hand with the nail polish is my sister's hand :P the other mystery hands above are mine) She struts around after being brushed like "Oho I'm so resplendent look at me I'm a purebreed ohoho" and then waddles through a burr patch like "Oh no. NO. What do I-- I CANNOT BE SEEN. *tries to squish head under piano*"
Mitzi can be slightly more coordinated self-reliant, but she's semi-lame, delicate and prone to loneliness (and actually cries tears ;__; ...but I think that's not because she's overwhelmed with sadness). Dolly is very prone to loneliness too, even after a couple of minutes. I think it might just be their temperament?

Loki is a Sphynx (velvety fuzzy peach fur) and Wilson is a Cornish Rex (not hairless) and both are very warm bodied. They might be more sensible to cold but they both can keep very warm on their own (and each other) :D
Loki needs a little more cleaning but even that it's not really that much, a little dip in the sink every few weeks and that's it~
Lychee is the worse of all, those little white needles he wears are a pain to wash off anything D<

Mango perhaps?

Anyway, currently no pet, also no photos of previous pets.

Anyway starting from most recently passed on to oldest.

Lucy: red furred queensland heeler, blind in both eyes and we ended up having to put her down due to health issues in 2011
Dexter: Rabbit, Minirex, he lived about..I want to say 12 years from the time that I had him and he was a few years old by that point as well.
Pepper: Blue furred queensland heeler, older sister to Lucy (same mom different litter) Passed away in 2008...I think.
Streak: Black furred queensland/Rottie, elder sister to Pepper and Lucy, died to poison one of the nieghbor's put out to kill coyotes.
Specky: Australian Shepherd Blue heeler mix: Someone messed with my dad's truck and she went through the driver's side window after him at a festival and we never saw her again unfortunately, hard to explain but when not at work she was more or less my babysitter as a kid.

So my plan is, since I intend to continue working in the field of forestry, to see if I can get into one of the programs where they find homes for some of the wolf-dog crosses that occasionally show up, otherwise I'm thinking muttly mix with Australian shepherd in there as a work/home protection dog.

Edit: and then I see a Czechoslovakian wolfdog and am left thinking "OMG SO FLUFFY!"

No, I've also eaten lots of mango and that definetely wasn't one.

It's sad to hear how your previous pets died (what were the neighbours thinking??). My family has a dog, and I don't think there will be another one after her because my parents keep saying she's the one and only that fits into our family.

It's sad to hear how your previous pets died (what were the neighbours thinking??).

To be fair I use the term neighbor's loosely as they were the neighbors to the farm and not our neighbor's at home, and he was thinking "damn coyotes killing my chickens!" Anyway, no point being depressed over their passing really, it's a part of life.

Also can't think of anything beyond a mango, do you have any photos of the plant?

Can't tell just yet. It doesn't help that some trees have different leaf structures from a young tree to an adult tree, can really only take a shot in the dark here.

Have you looked up Canistel, Longan, Sapote and Malay apples?

It was none of the fruits you mentioned, but... (wait for it...)
The google search led me to some image and now I know what it is: a jackfruit!!
I didn't realize it before because I always thought jackfruit looked huge and prickly (like this:
But there are inner parts that look exactly like the fruit I was eating and even the seeds look right.

That's for the happy part. If I lived in Florida or somewhere else with a warm climate, the tree would become 30 to 40 feet (9-12 m) tall and could even have fruits (it's monoecious) after 3-4 years (it may live up to 100 years!). But under the current conditions... well, I'll try to make it as comfortable inside the house as I can for my little soon-to-be huge jackfruit.

It was none of the fruits you mentioned, but... (wait for it...)
The google search led me to some image and now I know what it is: a jackfruit!!
I didn't realize it before because I always thought jackfruit looked huge and prickly (like this:

Neat. The only reason I didn't include jackfruit was because I had assumed you meant hat whatever it was had only contained one seed in the whole fruit.

If he happens to notice anyone from our family wandering to nearby woods, he follows you there and keeps meowing until you turn back <3
<p>Noako, I had a tabby cat who was very like that, too. Her name was Kittyhawk, and while she really hated to be touched, she loved to be around folks, and would follow along on walks or watch you while doing the yard work. For a cat that wouldn't cuddle, she sure had a big personality.

I am not sure what the large thingie is, so I call it trollplant. the other two are lemon trees who both should have been birthday presents for my sisters. I got mine in November already and it is doing fine. One of the other two will survive for sure, but I fear we might have got too late for the other one.

Yep, it's kind of Cat Law -- a cat always wants to have the highest possible viewpoint to Watch everyone else.

This was one of the points Rollo codified, by which we knew Lalli was a cat... (http://ssssforum.pcriot.com/index.php?topic=181.0)

<EXCESSIVE CAT PHOTOS WARNING>

Origami, your kitties are gorgeous, but the top middle pictures threw me, because I was seeing the ears as eyes, and thought you had some kind of owl/kitty hybrid... which would have been awesome!

Oh, no. KIttyhawk lived in the 90s, very pre webcomic. I named her Kittyhawk because she could be very sweet one minute and then turn on a dime into a "Don't touch me, arrrggggghhhhh!!!" squirm demon. The name just suited her.

These are our dogs. The yellow one is Lily and she's my mom's dog. We think she is a Toller retriever, but aren't sure because she was a stray from New Mexico. She may have rolled in horse poop right before this picture was taken. The black one is Natsha and, while technically the family's dog, thinks she is mine (I'm okay with that). She is a black lab/boarder collie mix and we got her from the pound when she was three. She is our first dog ever and was intended to de-sadify my sister after the death of our cat Sherbet.

I made a very good decision and read this thread from the start.  You guys have some lovely animal companions in your respective lives and that is lovely to see.

Moppet is my cat, and she has been hanging around with me for about 18 years.  She is a British Shorthair and when we moved to Stockholm her flight cost 24 times as much as mine.  True story.  That said I flew Ryanair, but she went with SAS because she has much more class than me.

Aww, that's so adorable!  I had rabbits as a teenager, and I know they only stretch out like that with their feet behind them when they feel really relaxed.

Was Bunny a full-time house rabbit, with a litter box and all?  I wish I could have a rabbit again, but I live in a cramped apartment with no cross-ventilation, so I don't think it would work.

I had a bunny who was my best and often times only friend and I miss him.

No, but what about a Purple Bear, Orca, or Alien? Those were some of my sister's (Alien is a polar bear, fun fact, but my grandpa named it so it probably doesn't count). My brother had Grayhound, Bonsly, and America Girl - though that one was a stuffed doll and not a human, hmmm. I guess no one was very creative! :D

First of all, your pets are all adorable. So cute, including the plants!

Now get ready for a whole bunch of my two (and a half) weirdos!

both of them hate having pictures taken. like, seriously hate it.. and even when I manage, they always have that annoyed look on their faces, so these are pretty rare.

Edit: heh, found some more!
Carlo, who, in his former incarnations, was Giacomo Casanova and a turkish padisha. Has to be that way, I can't explain how else he can be so cuddly, demanding and adorable. He's also the most patient cat in existence. He only scratched someone once in his whole life, when my sister dragged him through the house by the tail.
He's completely black, except for a few white hairs under his chin.
He's also very musically gifted. Not only when it comes to demanding food/cuddles/attention in the most interesting variations of sounds, but he goes wild when you whistle for him. Für Elise will always his all-time favourite.
(http://i.imgur.com/OuiF4vw.jpg)  (http://i.imgur.com/lgtreub.jpg)
(http://i.imgur.com/FPgog3q.jpg)  (http://i.imgur.com/89Pv9j2.jpg)
I have no idea, why he does this, but he keeps jumping you, and curling up around your neck, here he's in the middle of conquering my neck, while I was skyping with a friend:
(http://i.imgur.com/VDA4uyn.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/ASA40YF.jpg)

My second darling, Professor McGonagall, although we usually just call her Maggy. Constantly switches between "hello favourite person in this world, I will purr the hell out of myself, and I shall not leave your keyboard/newspaper/whatever it is you're doing right now alone, 'til I'm petted to my satisfaction" and "I honestly don't get you. I'm so annoyed right now. I will show my contempt with deadly glares, until you give in, but even then you can't do it right anyway" behaviour.
She's weird. 'nuff said. And loves baskets of any kind. paper bin, washing, I think the box she doesn't fit into has yet to be found.
(http://i.imgur.com/LbLw7Ae.jpg)  (http://i.imgur.com/lPSxAkj.jpg)
(http://i.imgur.com/R9Zgr53.jpg)  (http://i.imgur.com/dK5zabx.jpg)

And they don't get along that well, so pictures like this are very rare:

while I lived in NZ, I had a flat cat, Sonic. This is him. Only 1.5 years at the time, still bigger than both my darlings!

And then there's the usual neighbour cat traffic around our house. We have about 4 more guest cats, who shop up from 7 times daily to once a week. They provide entertainment for C and M, and they are all pretty as hell too.

Thanks!
Yes, he was indoor and he litter trained himself. I had hardwood floors, so mostly he stuck to his waterproof blanket. The most important part for rabbits is that they get lots exercise. So if you don't mind letting them run around your apartment while you're there, they shouldn't need too big a living space.

My first house in college had a no pet policy, so I had to hide the poor guy in the closet. We had three cats, two hamsters, a bunny, and sometimes my friend's rat would stay over while she was gone. We weren't very good at following the rules...

Did you ask them if they had a no-livestock policy though?
I mean, rabbits are delicious.

Your cats are adorable -- especially Carlo!  (Although it's kind of eerie how he has NO CONTOURS AT ALL.  That second photo could be.... anything.)

I think he also makes a very stylish neck accessory (or work-out tool to bulk up your shoulder muscles).  I guess that's what Flik was trying to do in his legendary photo from MAGFest.

Heres my dog called Vili. He's an Spanish waterdog with a strong tendency to guard everyone in the family especially me since i'm the youngest one and used to be the shortest ( even now that i'm around 10cm+ taller than my brothers he still thinks im the weakest one  :P ). Added benefit of seeing me sick and that by the way really got his "Protect owner" circuits online since while he normally sleeps where ever when i was sick he essentially either staid just behind my door or went to sleep under my bed everytime i left my door open.

Oh wow, really? I didn't think that was possible! Is that what they mean when they say some breeds are hypo-allergenic?

Probably.  I'd never heard of the *Spanish* Water Dog till now, but it's probably related to the *Portuguese* Water Dog, which has a similar, poodle-like, non-shedding coat.  (And both breeds are incredibly cute!)
The Obama family chose PWDs as their White House pets (http://www.whitehouse.gov/meet-sunny) because one of their daughters is allergic to regular dog hair.

When I looked up Spanish Water Dogs, the first photo that came up (http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/spanishwaterdog.htm) was a dog owned by a Finnish person named Taru!

I'm glad you have such a loyal friend, FV.  I still miss the poodle I had from the age of 6 to 18.

Yeah it's the same with him. Whenever there are people in different rooms he jogs between them constantly and when my parents are gone for longer than normal he gets really restless.

Really it's love and hate since he is really nice and likes to play a lot, but on the other hand he reaally likes to zealously guard the household and even the slightest sound drives him in to a barking storm that won't stop until he is sure that whatever made that sound is too scared to come again.

I didn't know that I can spend so much time looking at someone's pets!
They are all so sweet and nice, and I'm so jealous. Because I myself - owner of the monster.
Here it is - hyperactive beast with a terrible temper.
This rascal knows how to hide. I'm scared to death every time my plaid begins to hiss and try to bite me.

But, whenever friends come to me ...

Ah - I bet they lean forward with wide-open eyes. That's an aggression-sign in cats, and they don't like it. Many cats learn to tolerate it, but some are more in touch with their inner wildcat and can't stand it. If you want them to make friends, tell them to half-close their eyes - like cats do when they are making friends, or a person with a cat allergy might. Guess why cats are drawn people who have cat allergies? Because they tend to pull their heads back and half-close their eyes so they look like friendly cats!

(Most great apes are the same - wide-open eye-contact between strangers is a challenge, and as a consequence humans stress them out badly.)

Please prove to me there is not currently a time paradoxon in action by telling me that the first time he came to your house, he did not jump on the dinner table and stole the whole lump of butter?

So this little smug thing decided to lie down over both of my legs and I haven't been able to move for about an hour:

...he does consider himself entitled to a place on the dinner table along with any food that might be there, and he has the few white hairs that you speak of o_O

BUT my cat has a tear in his left ear which seems to be lacking in Carlo

idk though, here's another photo

Nope, that tear is there alright. O..O
Does Bindy have two darker spots on the inside of his right ear though?
BUT Carlo's tail is waaaay bushier/more voluminous than Bindi's.
So I guess we might maybe, hopefully not have a cloned cat, more like lost twins? Might I enquire how old he is?

Ah yes, I've been free for several days. I'm wavering between whether that would be a good thing or a bad thing to still be trapped though, because I wouldn't be able to go to school, but on the other hand I wouldn't be able to go to school. I suppose I could have gotten a less cute captor - if it was anything but my dog that was lying on my legs, I would be struggling to get free :P

hmm, well i've never inspected his inner right ear so i'm not too sure on that one....
he's just turned 12, and he's from warwickshire

would be pretty weird if turns out they are actually twins

I'll take your word for it simply because you are known to make highly reliable assesments of this kind.

It's referring to a Discworld trope: "One-in-a-million chances turn up nine times out of ten". (And other variations.) Discworld characters have been known to try to tweak the odds to get exactly 1/1,000,000 so as to hit that 9/10 bonus.

The shelter. Don't know if that makes it better or worse?!! Do I want to know where you got Bindi?

Apparently he belonged to an old couple before we took him in, which is why he's so spoiled.

Alas Fim, sorry to disappoint, but my sister's toe looks quite different from Lalligaattori's. And I don't think we have tiles like that.
If Lalligaattori were to tell me her/his sister is 16 however, the topic will be open for debate again.

well we got Bindi a few weeks after he was born from someone who lived nearby, so he doesn't have a history stretching back to Germany or anything. but the uncertain back story of Carlo does raise some suspicion...
and thankfully neither of my siblings is 16, so we can rule out some kind of international fight club-esque dual personality thing (for now)

As a refresher:  This cat seems to be *snuggling* with a mouse.  (If it isn't a small guinea pig...)

Behold, all of my pets. Mokie is the tortoiseshell kitty, she's really playful and shy around strangers (how does that work?). Lilith (called Lilly sometimes) is really mean (she's nice when she's tired) I mean, we saw her skin and rip the head off of a mouse  :-X and she brought a live bird inside once :/. Anyway, Buddha is the black and white dog, he and his brother (Cooper, the brown one) are super playful. Their mother got sick and wasn't able to feed them as pups, so we had to bottlefeed them. And lastly, Lacey is my grandma's cat (the really fluffy one) she's missing one of her front legs because we had to get it amputated. She's almost 13

One of my old cats used to really like the fish food flakes (which actually isn't that odd since fish food is made from fish... but it seemed weird at the time).

My cat loves vegan banana bread. She will rip open the package and start eating it. She'll beg for any sweet breads too, like pancakes, waffles, etc.

My cat who is such a grade C, used to love Mango Lasses, I do not know why. Also, not something she ate, but my old cat (whom we had to give away, :( ) liked to swim in the tub when she was a kitten. ( well, strictly speaking, my mom put her in the tub and the cat decided that in fact she did NOT want to drown, and started paddling around.

Our cats also do the licking-drops-from-the-shower thing. Also we had a dog that LOVED canned pumpkin and also any people-food he could get his paws on, though he is sadly deceased now. And our uncle's (also late) dog once stole a whole brick of cheddar from the counter when he was a puppy (not like a really small puppy, but like beagle-sized). The neighbour's chickens eat melon rinds, too.
Edit: Oh, and also one of the cats loves chewing on a *poisonous* houseplant and the other enjoys eating curling ribbon, which is *not good* for her, um, elimination process. X/

This is some advice I gave in the comments for someone whose friend had an old dog that had gotten mange. Old dogs are more susceptible to getting it. There are two main types of mange. One is relatively easy to get rid of with just some dipping and care. The other kind that most plagues old dogs is actually caught from humans. We are practically immune to it and don't show symptoms until advanced age. I have been fighting it in my dogs for a year now. Before I learned that it was caught from us I didn't have a clue how to break the cycle. My beagle is the worse affected. It makes her smell the same funky way that I have smelled old people in nursing homes who had bad yellowish flaky skin. It is the exact same scent.  The salt treatment has been the turnaround.

Kathy Megar-Kestner Sunflower • 3 days ago

The weird thing is that dogs get that kind of mange from humans. It just really doesn't affect us the same way. I am battling it in my dogs mostly my oldest ones. Anti-itch and anti-inflammatory medicines seem to stop a lot of the scratching which does a great deal of making the hair fall out and making the inflammation worse. I have a lady who makes an oatmeal, goats milk, tea tree oil and rosemary soap for me that has worked wonders.

I have also had some success in reducing the problem by salting the carpets and leaving the salt down for a few days and then vacuuming. It also seems to kill fleas and flea eggs. I think the fleas were making them itch and making the problem worse. If you are afraid of the pesticides in most home flea treatments try this.

        Hrolfr> Kathy Megar-Kestner • 3 days ago

Just ordinary table salt, or finely powdered stuff? I would thing the fine salt grains in a dry environment would act like diatomaceous earths on the little bugs...

            Kathy Megar-Kestner> Hrolfr • 2 days ago

I have used both table salt and course ground salt (like you use to make ice cream or salt you walk ways to melt ice). If you have dogs that shed profusely once or twice a year if you use the course salt and sweep first before vacuuming you will loosen up the hair from the carpet. You will get up about 2x as much fuzz than just regular vacuuming. For just hair removal you don't have to leave it on the rug. You can just sweep immediately. And yes I believe it works by robbing the bugs and eggs of all their moisture. Don't walk barefoot on it when you leave it down for a couple of days because it will also rob your feet of moisture so bad that you can crack and bleed. The salt will also reduce bacteria that can build up in the carpet too. Bacteria can't reproduce in a highly salty environment.

So here's the promised pictures of my prettybird Molly! (about 4 months late...oops :-\)

Puffed to groom her feathers!

Getting a little suspicious of the camera
(http://indieanna.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Mollybird3.jpg)

Some interesting things about Molly:

- We have no idea where she came from. My family and I didn't get her from a pet store or anything, she just kind of showed up one day sitting in our garage. Which is weird because Cockatiels are Australian birds and we live in the US. we figured she must have escaped from someone's house or a pet store. My Dad got her inside somehow and when no one responded to our "Found Bird" posters and alerts on the internet, we kept her. She's been with us for around 8 years now.

-We're actually not 100% sure what gender Molly is. She has characteristics of both genders. After doing some more research my Dad found that Molly is more likely male than female but we still couldn't tell for sure. By that point though we had been calling her "she" for so long that molly being feminine had just kinda stuck.

He indeed is lovely and as a puppy used to be black, but as he grew up he changed to brown. When he was small he even used to have a little harry potter lightning on his forehead that was white  :P. Sadly he has gotten really cranky now that he is old like barking to strangers on the steets and other dogs, but if you just let him sniff up your hand he protty much becomes your bestfriend trying to make you play with his ball and crumbling at you while still waggling his tail.

I am resisting the urge to just coo at adorable pictures of pets all day. I used to have two dogs when I was a kid: Norwegian elkhounds. If I can find some pictures, I'll definitely post them. But they were named Elli and Odin (we called him Odie), and they were the best and most fluffy dogs. They shed like crazy (I've heard that you can actually make yarn out of their fur) and loved the snow. When I was really little, I would tie them to my sled and have them carry me around.

I have a cat, this is our third cat. the first cat (Mitsu) disappeared, the second cat (Mitsuki) died after a month I got her (2008 aug).
now i have one since 2008 nov, his name is Tsukiko, but we call him only Tsuki (Cuki means cute, which is pronounces same like Tsuki).
[all cats has japanese name... the first actually named after a random girl from a japanese movie, no clue what the movie was, I wasn't japanese fan, but in 2008, I was... totally would name him differently if I got him like now...]

Tsuki had one operation this year, he had some almost-deadly lump on his side, and currently he has some problems with his eye, we are poor and can't do an other operation for it, but hopefully we can later, it does not healing...

well, he is really playful and cute cat, he is really quiet type, if he meows he is really quiet, but mostly he just stares and his eyes actually tells me what he wants, also he is really smart, he knows how to make our attention at him without making any sound. only time he meows kind of loud, when in the morning he wants his food.
he also tells me he wants to play or wants to drink (in case his drink is empty) he used to know how to call me or others to open him the front door in that time when he used to go outside into garden, I moved to the city, living in second floor, he is not going outside, only to the blacony.

his favourite toy is this selfmade toy. he is the most excites when I pull it around. he literally sits under this toy, then looking at me like "plz, pull this for me!"

Silent Fox, you need to put the url between the boxes. You just need to take the url from inside the first "img" box and put it between the boxes.

(yaaay, I'm the most best at explaining things... not)

There's a way to share a picture and it will give you the BBCode to use. Copy and paste that, and then add a width to the image tag.

I would post a picture of my cats and dog but I'm kinda across the country from them right now... I have a golden retriever a black cat and a really dark brown and black tabby. I'm really worried right now because my dog just had a minor stroke on Monday. She is recovering but I'm still worried. I haven't seen her since really early in the morning on Monday when I was leaving for the airport. My cats are amazing creatures. The people I'm staying with have this insane cast that hides all day and is completely afraid of people. YAY!! Pets!

My mom is taking care of her while i'm on vacation and she says my dog has almost fully recovered except some weakness in the left side of her body. No we did not take her to the vet. There was no way to get her in to the car, because the stroke weakened her back legs.

Well, I'm home for the holiday weekend here in the US, and my mom woke me up this morning saying the cat was outside the door, and that he suddenly wasn't looking good.  Went downstairs to check on him, and he was laying very still on his side, taking fast, shallow breaths.  He was limp, groaning, and tried walking inside after a while.  He managed to make it in but had to lay down after a few steps, and he was really limp and shaky.  I managed to get him into his carrier, and we took him to the vet.  Apparently cats are really good at hiding what's wrong with them until their bodies can't compensate for it anymore, and his blood had become very anemic from some disease.  We couldn't afford a blood transfusion for him, with everything we have going on, so we had to have him put down.  The vet was wonderful through the whole process, very sensitive and compassionate.  Now I just gotta wait for the rain to stop and my dad to get home so we can bury him.

Truman was 9 years old, and probably the best cat I could have had, or ever will have.  Gonna miss him a lot.

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat.  Was this the elegant tuxedo cat you've shared pictures of?  The one that would do slow blinks with you?  I know he was a wonderful pet and you'll always remember him.

It's sad that the disease took him like that, but at least it was while you were home to be with him.
RIP, Truman.

I wonder if it makes me a bad person, feeling thankful that I wasn't there when it happened...

We used to have two other cats, and one of them died while we were on a trip. So we're waiting in line for the ferry, and we get a call from the neighbour who's looking in on them, saying that she arrived and he was dead on the living-room floor... :'( I still miss Jeely.
The other, we got home from ... going out to dinner or something? and found him in convulsions on the floor.
...dammit, now I'm tearing up.

Noooooo sad pet death stories nonononno DDDDD: *clutches pet who was recently sick*

I have a cat named Tuxi (short for Tuxedo 'cause she has a white mouth/chin, chest, belly and paws) and she's 9 years old now. She's sweet and a little detached with people (was feral from birth until she was taken to the animal shelter when she was about a year old), but a complainer if you don't feed her what she wants ::) She likes me the best by a little (my mom's the next favorite), but that's probably 'cause I'm usually the one who feeds her XD

This was taken maybe three years ago

Tuxi gets more playful at night so her eyes are really big here

My sister's petting her, and, as usual, Tuxi's trying to get away. Poor cat XD My sister used to chase her until she caught her, so Tuxi used to run away at the sight of my sister coming towards her

What a little cutie! Reminds me of my aunt's similar-colored tom Charlie, who used to wiggle in behind your back at dinner to watch you eat and beg for scraps ever-so-quietly. Meanwhile her huge dog just stands there and lets his eyes do the talking for him.

Yep and we have a lot more games were that came from too! (hmmm, maybe I'll start a game thread.....)

She does look grumpy, but also very pretty! (I'm guessing it's a she because I think I see a tortoiseshell pattern, but my apologies if I'm wrong  :P)
Thanks! Her pattern makes her look even grumpier!

What a cutie pie! I've always found ferrets to be interesting. What's her disposition, more dog or more cat-like?
That Christmas photo reminds me of the time we stuck our previous dog in a bee costume for Halloween. He got so tired Dad had to carry him all the way home from his walk. XD

Ah, that's too bad, but it's so rare and nice to find other people who are familiar with the loveliness of ferrets. Even here where they're legal they aren't a very common pet :/

Well ferrets generally are neither cat or dog-like. We've had three, all with very different temperaments. They seem to have two modes: asleep (for like 20 hours a day) and bouncing off the walls (all this energy is probably why they sleep so much). They're cat-like in that they don't listen to anyone, but we have trained her not to bite (at least not hard, she seems to nip as a form of trying to tell us something), and to come when we shake the treat bottle, but that's all she's willing to do. Ferrets are also generally kept in cages different to cats and dogs because if left to roam around the house unsupervised they get into all sorts of trouble. You take them for a few hours each day to play :)

Heheh, yeah, pets don't really like being dressed up do they ^_^ Poor tired doggy

Oh, I see, very informative. Thank you. One of my old neighbors in Germany had a ferret, but it was so crazy/hyper you could barely see it tearing around a corner in the house.! :P And I think any pet would come for a rattling treat container. It's how I got our dog into bed when I didn't want to carry him up the stairs (he had short legs and might we might have been a little too enthusiastic about food for a spell). XD

Wow, what beautiful coloring. And at least she looks comfortable. ;) Our dog would wedge himself in the tiniest corner of the sofa just so that he could nap against your shin. Or he'd lie under the rocker arm chair so that you couldn't lean back for fear of crushing him (and this on the day we brought him home!).

Yes, exactly! Our dog was so gung-ho about physical contact that if he was sleeping against your leg and you shuffled over to, say, the right, he'd shuffle after you-in his sleep! He was a crazy little furball, I still rather hate the vet for not running the tests we tried to order (we ultimately had to give him up because of mounting examination bills- $3000 in two months for x-rays and food was rather too much for us to stomach). :(

Oh yes - she's one of those cats who thinks they have authority over humans. It's also funny since she's a very small cat. :D

Oh gosh, what a cutie!!

She's a sweetie, too, when she's not being a bother. Just a few minutes ago she was lying on the couch cushion next to me, and twice plopped her head into my hand so I could scratch her chin :D

Yes, I know about it. I prefer to use 'she', because in Russian 'snail' is feminine gender noun, and I just can't call my pet 'it'.

Oh wow I never realized this thread was here before !

Anyway, my roommate's cat is great, she's a sweet precious lil baby, except she's only really affectionate with me while my roommate's at work >:c usually I get up a few hours after he leaves for work and it's really obvious that she's very upset about having to be without pets for those few hours.

She also has this weird thing where she doesn't really meow, she only chirps (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fefcLFqEUM) which is super cute. One time she did that thing cats do where when they're very happy about pets they flop around from side to side, except she was doing this on the edge of my bed and accidentally flopped off it and her reaction was to chirp at my bed x3

Actually something similar happened where one time I was at my cousin's house petting one of their cats while she was on the mantle above their fireplace and was flopping around from side to side but accidentally flopped off the mantle. Except when she started to fall my first reaction was to try to catch her which was a bad idea because she ended up just gouging my arm which made me pull away and she ended up landing on the floor just fine like she probably would have if I hadn't tried to catch her =/

Very cute pets. Our cats, Gil and Agatha, are very clever at finding shady spots in the searing Australian summers. Whereas the lizards that inhabit my garden, not pets but more commensals, like to bask in the sun on days when I would get heatstroke if I tried that. Those lizards do earn their keep - although they eat some of the fruit and flowers from my strawberries and muntries, and the big bluetongues and stumpytails will jump up or scramble into the lower branches of the bushes to reach ripe gooseberries or blueberries, the lizards nevertheless also eat a lot of locusts, caterpillars, snails and slugs and other pest creatures, so on the balance they are useful.

(Pikachu typed that)

Oooh! You have a cockatiel, Wave! I love cockatiels! I used to have one, but he had to stay in Russia, so he lives with my grandma now. His name is Kichi. He used to wake me up in the mornings by sitting on my head and quietly talking into my ear :'D ^-^
Yours looks so cute! Mine is colored as his wild relatives, grey with light-yellow head and coral-red spots on the cheeks. ;D

So I thought ya'll might want to see Pepper when he was a kitten, about one/two days after we adopted him. For context, in the second pic, he's sitting in a bin on its side (and yes ik his legs are ridiculously short). Also also, he's a Maine Coon mix breed in case you were wondering!

I'm sorry I can't get the pics to show directly in the message, other image hosting website are blocked (and I can't take the internet protection thing off).

So, I'm not sure how many of you remember, but back in 2015, self inserts were a big deal, and my self insert had these two demon kitties:

And I am now happy to announce that I have two, real live black and red demon kitties, complete with glowing eyes.

Awwwe those demon kitties are adorable! Life imitates art I see. All that's left now is some icelandic magic powers.

One of my two dogs is a bit demonic too. We sometimes call her The Worm of Midnight 😆

Here she is playing with her sister.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEETS :D
They're all very cute, if demonic. Maybe someone can write a rune to contain demonic pets.

I don't have any pets currently, but here's a photo of my teeny kitty of a few years -- she came as a stray to a friend of my roommate's at the time, but the friend was allergic so the cat was passed along to me. We had four years together before she passed away.
