I don't know if there are many learners here, but I, for one, could use some practice in Spanish. Or I'll end up losing everything I learned. So I was thinking about a Spanish skyping group, like the Norwegian and Swedish one? :D
-
Can't commit to regular participation, but living in California I should keep my Spanish alive. So keep me posted...
-
Oh, count me in. I am just learning Spanish, but I am enjoying the heck out of it and wouldn't mind more practice.
-
Sounds great! I know a lot of Spanish but can't speak it to save my life, so I could really use something like that. :)
-
I have a license to teach Spanish (that I've never used), but I haven't spoken Spanish in so long that I feel like I've forgotten too much. I'd love to have the chance to keep from losing it completely.
-
I'm learning and I'd be glad to join in every now and then! It would be good practice to keep me in the Spanish teacher's favorites (she has way overestimated my abilities and I am now in the advanced group. bad decision, bad plan, bad outcome)
-
Ssoooo, shall we schedule a meetup? When are you guys free? As long as it's not Saturday or Monday I should be able to schedule some time.
-
Count me in as well! :)
Been 4 years since I've last had anything to do with spanish, but hey, never to late to get back into it.
-
I can do anything but this Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Should we post our Skypes here or just PM them to each other?
-
Thursdays are best for me.
-
I have all the time in the world right now, so any time is good for me. :)
-
Heck yeah! I plan on taking the Regents test for Spanish, so this will help me. :) I'm currently studying it.
I could use extra practice outside of school with other people. XD
Best schedule for me would be every other Monday, since I end earlier, by about an hour, if my memory serves me right.
That or it could be the weekends, or just after school, preferably a bit after 3, since I arrive home minutes before.
-
while most thursdays should work, I might be off gaming once a month. Shouldn't stop you guys though.
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday work best for me.
However, how are we going to do things with the time?
Going by GMT, I could do 7 pm, however that's three in the morning for Aul, so I don't think that's exactly perfect.
When does it work best for you guys?

I propose something like Thursday since that seems to be good for most. As for time, when I talked to Aul she said that 5 for us (me and Tera) was good for her (1am).

You're in Italy, right? So it would be 8am for me, I think. Sounds good!

Is that 8 a.m. Pacific time? I know Finland is 9 hours ahead of California time (where I am) -- is Italy in the same timezone Minna posts from?
I didn't weigh in earlier because I didn't want my odd hours to throw off everyone else. But 8 a.m. is definitely doable for me. How will this work, logistically? Skype, Google Hangout, etc.?

Well, Finland is an hour ahead of me more or less, I believe? Anyway, the Norwegian group uses Skype, but no more than five people can skype at a time. Maybe Google Hangouts is the better solution?

I've never used Google Hangouts... Is it easy to set up?
EDIT: Thanks for the help, Nim :D
-
Can't join today. Busy.
-
I'm still available for today. Is anyone else going to be there?
-
I cannot at this time on Thursdays in general given that where I live, that's 12 PM, and I am currently in the middle of school :p
-
Ah well, maybe next week then.
-
Add me in...Just PM me when you get a time figured out and i'll try to be there!
-
Sooo, are we going to meet today?
-
Might come in late, but ought to be there. :)
-
Hm.... Spanish group, eh? I'm from Spain so, I can help! ;D But, a question, is this a Skype group? (I don't know if you know what I'm trying to mean XD) If it is, I can't join, my parents denys me to show my face... :-\
-
Skype is not going to work for me ... but how do I join the google hangout? :)

You need an account in Google+ to join Google Hangouts

:usa: Hello! I speak Spanish, but I'm not from Mexico. I lived in Mexico for two years, and during that time I learned Spanish. Now I want to learn more, until I can speak almost as if I'm from Mexico.

:mexico: ¡gracias!
:usa: Thanks! The thing that's the most difficult for me is past tense (Did I do the Spanish of that properly?), because I didn't formally learn it. I know some words in past tense, but it's because I'm good with languages and I could learn it without someone teaching me.
(wow, I've lost so much Spanish in the two years since I lived in Mexico. This is harder than I expected.)

:uk: hm... So, you want to talk in past, right?
(Your Spanish is good but you need to change some Words :3)

:usa: Yes, and I know some words in past tense, but not many. :/
(thank you! I was kind of worried that I had forgotten more Spanish than I realized. I also had a bad habit of letting people speak for me, or speaking in English more than I should, all due to shyness.)

Don't be shy, there's Nothing if you say something wrong!
Thanks. :)
So it'd be super helpful if, as I start to learn past tense (which I really want to do soon - I have a dictionary that's all Spanish verbs and their conjugations), I could practice them here, and you - as well as any other Spanish speakers that join the thread - could just give quick comments on how I'm doing with grammar and such (as long as it's not too much trouble, of course). :)

:usa: Hello, Blackjazz! I am from Tennessee, USA. I learned Spanish in high school and university, but I have the same problem as you: conjugating verbs in past tense. I am doing lessons on Duolingo, in Spanish and in Swedish, and they are very fun!
The Spanish text was done without the benefit of google translate, and probably has several grammatical errors. :) I am a bit rusty.

Hello! I also speak a little Spanish. I'm learning it now but I don't have a big vocabulary and I know that my grammar is... very bad. My teacher doesn't teach well and she never explains what we are doing and I think I need to practice more outside school
Ahaha that was probably butchered, so sorry for making you guys read that

So, question: Is this still happening at the same time? I have seriously slept through every single Thursday since the time was set. I'll set an alarm and get my butt out of bed next week I promise, I just want to make sure that it's still at the same time. Or happening at all, really.
-
Is anyone interested in setting up a second time and day? There are only two days during the week when I cannot do a language chat, and Thursday is one of them (Tuesday is the other.)
-
I'm definitely interested in setting up a second time. I can't do the one on Thursday (it starts just as my school starts ;_; ) so hopefully this could allow me to join in?
-
Ok guys, I'm confused now
are we going to do a chat or something? and then, when and where? If it's a videochat I can't, my dad rules says no
And if it's a normal chat, I can chat in hangouts because I don't have another site to chat (I don't use my deviantart's chat :/ )
-
:mexico: Gracias! En Duolingo estoy aprendiendo pretérito, tanto en español y sueco. Son muy diferentes!
:usa: Thanks! In Duolingo I am learning preterite, in both spanish and swedish. They are very different!

I was assuming a multi-person video chat, probably on Google Hangouts. Although I understand your dad's rule, RealRedCloud. Would your dad allow you to participate if your camera was turned off, or perhaps pointed at the wall? Maybe cover the camera with a sticker? Some way so that you can be a part, but your face is not shown (I assume that's what the rule is about.)
As for specific day and time, what works for the most people? The best time for me is in the evenings after work (Pacific Time Zone.) Perhaps at 7pm (1900). However, I am more flexible on the weekends. Saturdays?

No, I can't even put the camera in off or showing the wall :/ But I can type-chat because I'm always there (Like, my g+ account is always online)
For me, the best days are Saturdays and Sundays but only if I don't have exams so, maybe Saturday is fine :) And 7pm, huh? That would be like... 1pm here in Spain, so, I think that's a good time :3
-
7PM Saturday Pacific time would work perfectly for me!
Edit: wow i was going to do something fancy for my 300th post. oops. i'll just... wait till 400 i guess B)
-
Actually, I think we'll have to go much earlier. I just checked, and 7pm in Seattle would be in the middle of the night in Spain. RealRedCloud, you're about 9 hours ahead of me.
What about 9am (Seattle time/PMT) on Saturdays? That would be noon in New York City and I think 6pm in Spain.

Oh wow, 9 hours o.o
then, is still a good time for me, I'm connected all day so, yes, probably we can
Why can't we all have the same time zone ;_;
-
Can we, um, bump that up one more hour? I've been having trouble waking up for the 9am Thursday session. >_<
-
Sure! To be honest, I'd have trouble getting up in time for a Saturday morning chat anyway.
10 am PMT? 1pm in NYC, 7pm in most of Spain?
-
Sounds good to me! :3

Right now it's 7pm, so, yep is a good hour for me ^^ (what time is it there? maybe if we calculate now we can probably know if it's a good hour for all or not)
Edit: Ignore the last thing please-

So are we still doing this through Google Hangouts?

That's what I was thinking, although I've never set one up (or participated) before. Raise your digital hand if you know how!

I am not an expert but I set mine up recently and sort of remember. You have to have a Google+ account (instructions for that can be found with a google search), and then you can access Hangouts through your gmail account. (I think it shows up on the left side of the gmail page, iirc.)
I'm not entirely certain how to find or add contacts though, but I am sure we can figure that out.
If anyone is interested in doing Spanish today, in about 3 or 4 hours, pm me and we can share our contact info and hablar español. :)

:uk: Well, you only have like a twice of mistakes, but I don't think you need to be sad ^^

Thanks Auliel! I just set mine up - it was really easy.
I think to add contacts you just need to type in either their name or their email address and start talking. So if you want to chat, PM me your info and we'll see if it actually works like that. :)

Anyway, it's still perfectly intelligible ;) If you need someone to practice with, I'd gladly help.

:usa: Welcome! I'm also learning! And don't feel bad about your "rusty" Spanish. We all need to make mistakes to learn (and the native Spanish-speakers are going to correct us when we say something too strangely :) ) You should also go to the introduction thread for welcoming in English and cookies!

hi don't know if you guys are still doing this but whatsapp is way better (but the catch is the giving your phone number, still it doesn't need to be a thing one schedules and stuff)
also I don't speak Spain Spanish but Argentinian Spanish(? which sounds different and we use different words and so I wouldn't be of help.
-
Yo también hablo español Argentino! Hi :D
Probably won't be much help if anyone is interested to learn Spaniard Spanish~ and even latin american spanish has it's differences between each country...

Hola!

About those books (good choices, all of them ;) ), I'd add The house of the spirits o La casa de los espíritus (Isabel Allende too) And apparently Logia, by Francisco Ortega is pretty awesome too, if you like mystery books. I'll start it as soon as my brother lets it go ^^. He's not very effusive about anything, but went out of his ways to let me know he really liked it!
If you want to practice a bit, Ana, we may try to schedule something ^^.

Welcome, Antifa! I live in California too (about half an hour south of S.F.), as do quite a few other Minnions.
Would you like to introduce yourself on the Introduction Thread? (https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=131.0)That way we can all get to know you.

Hola a todos!

Hello everyone!
:uk: I'm Oxi, from Argentina. Spanish is my native language, although I'm also learning Swedish and Finnish. :p

¡Hola, Oxi!

:uk: I don't know if you're still doing this since it's been like 5 years, but maybe you do! I speak Spanish from Spain since I see people specifying :))

Hola, RoosArtwork!

Oh, shoot!! I didn't read it! ;A; ¡Muchas gracias!
